I listen to mostly metal and hardcore, so Jewel is more of the exception than the rule when it comes to my tastes. My music collection consists mostly of acts like Earth Crisis, Nothingface, Kittie, Unsane, Will Haven, Snapcase, Fear Factory, Vision of Disorder, etc. The only time I stray from groups like these is when I hear something truly extraordinary in another genre (Jewel, Innocence Mission). Anyone else? I read a message recently wondering why Jewel didn't thank the EDAs in the liner notes to This Way. Well, actually, I think she thanked us on the actual album. I think the only reason Grey Matter and SIBTW made the album was as a sort of homage to her longtime fans. I don't think it's a coincidence that both songs were performed at Jewelstock and ended up being "bonus tracks" on her album. I think her decision to include these "raw" tracks might have a lot to do with many EDAs' wishes for better-sounding Angelfood. Although, as I'm sure Mike will second, the masters from Jewelstock and the early generation copies made from them are truly excellent in their own right. Anyway, this is just an observation and I could be completely wrong. Thanks for reading. In earlier albums Jewel didn't say "To the fans, I thank .... blah blah blah." In this album she actually had a message to "the fans." That was pretty nice to read. ~Elizabeth, the tennis-ball-whacking angel P.S. I love the This Way booklet! Awww.... unfair! I just listened to the U.S version of SIBTW on This Way (I've got the Australian, non-nashbash version)... and the U.S one is way better! The Australian version is even slower, and Jewel doesn't 'get into it' as much. Plus, i just love the giggles and what sounds like about 10 audience members shouting out "Night with its shattered...!!" when Jewel fails to start singing. "Thankyou" Jewel promptly replies ;) We, in the southern hemisphere may get "A Long Slow Slide" - but the Americans definietely get the better SIBTW. Which brings me to ask - what's the motive behind using different versions anyway? Alan? Mike? Anyone? I grew up on old heavy metal. But even in today's music. It's not what I call Hard Rock. It either sounds like Punk or Alternative blended together. Even though I love OZZY. I haven't been a rabid fan of his since Zakk Wylde left the band. I think it's great that Black Sabbath got back together. Though I haven't seen the tour. But bands like Limpbiz and Staind can go away. How depressing is Staind anyway. I've seen enough of that sad sucker face. And we all know how Fred Dursts ego is so big that he can't walk through a door way. At my age, I tend to listen to real musicians. with real bands. None of this glossed over corporate crap. I spin stuff like Susan Tedeschi / BB King / Stevie Ray Vaughan / Black Crowes. If you guys haven't heard Susan Tedeschi. She can actually play her own lead guitar solos. I'd like to see Jewel do that. Jewel needs to take some gtr lessons and learn a few scales. When an artist only relies on their voice, they are limiting themselves. I thought Jewel was on her way to being a good gtr player, when I heard "I've got the blues more than you do blues". I heard the little guitar solo in that, and was impressed, even though she was copying somebody else's gtr solo. I was still impressed that she could play it. Then after that, there wasn't another solo ever played again. I consider Jewel Contemporary Pop. Not rock or blues, but I'm hoping. Other Hard Rock that really Rocks. Try Metallica's first 3 albums. >Is there anybody on this list who happens to like hard rock/heavy metal?
