The point is we want This Way to be successful - and in order to achieve that Jewel needs to be played on mainstream pop stations, where the most people listen. In the competitive music industry, it's important to remain noticed. Jewel doesn't wanna wear nothing and be more sensational and more of a cartoon, and I'm glad she doesn't, so the way to get her noticed by a lot of people is for her to played on mainstream pop radio stations where a lot of people listen. Jewel needs that kind of exposure for her fanbase to continue growing as it has. Hell, I became a Jewel fan by hearing Hands on a pop radio station... if her music had been just "Hands"-esque and nothing else I probably wouldn't have stayed a fan... but I discovered there was a lot more to Jewel. The idea is for that to happen with many other people around the world. The fact is, Jewel IS a mainstream artist. She is NOT an indie artist. Being a mainstream artist isn't BAD - but if you're a mainstream artist with a large, loyal fanbase you're less likely to compromise your music for the sake of commercial success... and you'll get commercial success anyway. But in order to be the exception to the system in that way, you have to abuse the system for a while. That's what Jewel should be trying to do (or at least that's what I think Jewel is trying to do). In 20 years, when she has a huge fanbase... I won't care if she had radio hits or not. It's getting her to that stage. And the statement that if you're played in between shit you seem like shit.. well that's bullshit. How's about - if Jewel is played in between shit, she stands even more as being NOT SHIT. As cymbie said, Jewel taught herself to play the guitar. That's how I learned, I couldn't let anyone else show me because I just get frustrated seeing them doing it, and making it look so easy, when I couldn't :) I think, in most cases, it's the easiest way to learn...and again, as cymbie said, it's "advertised" that Jewel uses D'Addario strings, though I don't know that it means she really does, but I wouldn't doubt it, they probably give them to her for free. ~ Sandy << I was curious to know how Jewel learned guitar, didn't she learn it from different people? Also, to whom ever on the list plays guitar how did you learn?>> & << Sorry, I've got more to put. lol.
