I figured he might actually kick Derrick off the list for good and shut down the list for a few days. He's a bit of a softy, IMO, and his reaction to the situation was extremely reserved and certainly not "repugnant". Correction: Derrick uses this list as a forum to start the bickering in the first place. He's basically admitted that if the list is not in chaos, he's not happy. I live on a military base in Okinawa, Japan. Destiny's Child was supposed to do a concert here on October 21. Tickets went on sale months before the concert @ $35 each. They cancelled their show due to "recent world events." Talk about unpatriotism!! What ever happened to people like Bob Hope who would risk life and limb to do moral lifting shows for the military?? They were scared and woosed out!! I have no respect for that. We are over here living in this supposed dangerous situation that they don't want to spend 4 hours in... Very stupid. So, everyone, boycott Destiny's Child!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Christy the Tattoed angel Subject: [EDA] Self moderation, for cry'in out loud! (please read!) Alright, I've had enough. ever since the list went unmoderated, people have basically been saying ANYTHING here, whether is has or has nothing at all to do with the list. Some people here have proven they have absolutely no control over what comes out of their mouths (I won't quote, because I don't want to offend anyone) but really, if you just read some of the recent digests... So, since Mike has had enough of us and does not want the mass work of moderation again, here is what I suggest: A few ground rules, that will help each and every one of us to decide what is and isn't appropriate. Here are my suggestions: 1. Jewel related topics (and by that i do NOT mean "did jewel loose 1/2 lb? did she dye her hair again? was that dress a "versace" last night?) but things related to her music, CDs, etc. I am sure you are all bright enough to differ the two. 2. Anything that has to do with good deeds, volunteer work, etc. 3. List/Jewel stories ("How I got on the list", "the first time I met jewel") Those are the "do's". About the "don'ts": Anything other (personal messages, stories, etc) is all nice and good, but belongs in your own private email boxes rather than EVERYONES. I don't REALLY need to hear how Jane misses John's sexy little tush or anything of the sort (no offense to anyone, seriously.) Another thing is, when you reply to a message do NOT paste the entire original, but only the lines you want to refer to. This makes the whole thing huge and hard to read. I'd say that's about it... Aside from the obvious (No bashing, no cursing..) I really hope you take this into consideration the next time you want to post. If any of you have other such ground rules that you want to have, i think that would be a good idea. I could probably put the whole thing on the EDA poetry page so we can all look at it every once in a while. I think you're getting a foggy view of the list when looking at it through the tears which are welling up in your eyes.Wipe them off and look again.Abigail has lost her cool due to the madness which has befallen this list in the last couple of days. She wasn't referring to your plea for support from the list.Anytime you need someone to listen to your woes (and perhaps give you some advice) we will be here for you. * Shachar gives December a big hug ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Nov 2001 21:29:32 -0600 From: "New World Warehouse" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Mike is not an executive I think what some people like Amanda are missing is the fact that, yes, many executives put up with "crap" (I'm the director for my company...I get more crap than I'd like), but they get PAID for it. No one subscribes to this list for money, no one sends Mike cash. This isn't a "general" discussion board, this is the EDA list and there are people out there that turn the list into something entirely different under the guises of "getting a rise" or "spicing things up". There are ways to make things interesting without trying to mess with people in a negative fashion. The black and white of the situation is this: EDA - Everyday Angels...supposed to be a positive thing, right ??? Negative commentary...turns things into a discussion about who's right and wrong, who's fake and real, who did what to who....that defeats the purpose of the list. You wouldn't go to McDonalds to eat Chinese food. Given, small side discussions here and there are harmless as you can't expect people to totally stay on one subject forever, but there has to be a FOCUS and when that focus is lost, it turns into what it's been the past day or so. Things could be a lot worse, you could have someone totally self-righteous running the board and kicking people off left and right, but instead you have someone who only does it as a last resort. Go back and read how many messages were people WANTING him gone vs how many people WANTED him here. He claims that LOTS of people wanted him there, but very few chose to speak up. Let's see how much the list changes over the next month and if it turns into a more positive thing again. If it does, then the source of the problem was obivious, if not, then maybe it's more than that or not that at all. The last thing that is the problem is Mike though. He does this because he chooses to and deals with it for very little reward. If you think you could do better then go somewhere, put a list together and invite everybody to it and run it yourself. I don't think we could ask for someone more focused on the point of the EDAs than Mike. Can anyone tell me where I can find Steve Poltz or Rugburns CD covers on the net. I wanted to make cd covers out of 'em. Looking for Mommy I'm Sorry mainly. If anyone knows, please email me. Or if someone can scan it for me, I'd greatly appreciate it! Also.. Does anyone know where I can subscribe to The Rugburns Mailing List? I was on it before with a different email address, and hardly ever used it, so I guess it got cancelled. ~Jewel Fan~ http://www.angelfire.com/sk/killorgeteven (long story about the name of the URL. The bad winter days get all the way down to 52F way up here (brrrrr), so gville is probably not the best place for a gathering, but central fl sounds good to me. Maybe all the florida angels could get together at a concert, as kind of a mini-gathering, if a concert is held in the area. There's like six(?) of us right? Now that I left my old job, I actually have time to go to a Jewel concert if I want to. =) It would be fun to attend a live performance. I'd really love get to hear Hands live. It is my absolute favorite song of all time, maybe I'll get lucky and it'll find its way onto the set list by some miracle... even though it's an old song. ewww! ewww! I have time to study sculpture too! I'm so excited! Much less computer time for me!!! =) alex the geek angel (the sculptor angel? *s*) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #534 ***************************
