At the superbowl every single artist lip syncs. It's not just Jewel. Every artist that has done the superbowl lip syncs it. There is no way any artist could do it live. There are way to many people screaming for the artist to hear themselves singing. Plus the echo screws with the sound, so it is hard for the artist to tell where they are in the song. i dont know if that makes sense, but I don't really know how to say it. Bottom line is, Jewel is not the only person that lip syncs the Nation Anthem at the Super Bowl, they all do. >From: SeanHooks@aol.com >To: jewel@smoe.org >Subject: [EDA] Jewel and Anthem? Hi All, SO, now the topic has changed from who would you like to open for Jewel on "This Way" tour to everybody pick Steve! C'Mon people! Give others a chance! :-) My 2 cents on the Michelle Branch as opener shouldn't happen. She's great, she's terrific, she's got a Poltz story -if you've been able to get her debut indie "Broken Braclet" you'd know what Im talking about- she's a female singersongwriter/guitarist in the same bunch as Jewel. Hmm... I'd like variety between the opener(s) and the main act, wouldn't you? We could always start a Michelle Branch mailing list on smoe(that ok Mike?) if a bunch of us EDAs start doing gatherings at MB shows. Poltz has been around since WAY before the begining. He opened ALOT on the Spirit tour + played in the band. I'm opting for Poltzie not to open for Jewel mostly cause I don't like watching the same show twice(e.i. same opener and main act as in a previous tour). I hope somebody agrees with me here about Poltz not opening for the whole tour. If he does open he should be part of the Rugburns, not solo Poltz. Maybe what would be cool is if the artists on the Jeweljk Guest Artists page would be willing to open for her. To read about these people and to hear them are two totally different experiences. the Kung Fu Angel Alex ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Oct 2001 04:18:31 EDT From: CarnivoreFanClub@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Standing Still on Billboard Standing Still has move up from #20 last week to #16 on the Adult contemporary chart on billboard. Sean, there is NO WAY you can't tell me that the only reason you posted this was to stir things up. You know as well as I and a thousand others here that she HAD to lip-synch the anthem at the Super Bowl or not do it at all. The ONLY choice she had was "no thanks" if she did not want to lip-synch it. It's the rules of the Super Bowl and you know it. Lip synched again? Sean, You are even more ridiculous than I thought if you really believe it was Jewel's choice to lip sync the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXXII (1/25/98). Years ago, one artist(I forget who it was) totally froze when he was cued to start the anthem. Since that unfortunate experience ALL artists have been forced to lip sync it due to network policy. Gee, Jewel will be SO disappointed that you'll be pissed off. And one more thing, I'm sure Jewel is also ashamed that you're a fan of hers. It is a great pleasure to welcome Jewel to LARRY KING LIVE. She is the singer-songwriter and author. A new album coming next month called "This Way." But the song she is going to sing tonight is "Hands." That is from your last album, right? JEWEL, SINGER: Correct. KING: How did this all come about? JEWEL: A radio station in New York actually did a version where they put President Bush speaking over it and people calling in when they had seen the towers fall, and it just sort of became an anthem, I guess in New York. KING: Where were you on September 11? JEWEL: Camping. I didn't know it happened until 12th. KING: No kidding? JEWEL: Yes. KING: Where did you learn it? JEWEL: I learned it driving out, we saw a ranch with its flag at half-staff, and we started driving through these mountain country cities and saw all the flags out. KING: Thanks for coming, Jewel. JEWEL: Thank you. KING: We would like to dedicate this song to Jenny Ann Mefeo (ph). She was burned over 90 percent of her body in the attack on the World Trade Center. She clung to life for 41 days at New York's Weill Cornell Burn Unit. That is the medical facility this program took you into last month. Yesterday Jenny Ann Mefeo lost her courageous battle for survival. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and her friends. Here is Jewel.
