Her song was great, but their was no, for a lack of a better word "oomph" to her voice. She again came after Billy Connolly who had an hour long interview, while Jewel's lasted less then 3 minutes. When she was on the radio show with Rove McManus, she was bright and bubbly, but the last few times I've seen her since she came back to Australia for the second time, she looked drained and unenthusiastic. Hope everthing is fine in her life. Jewel was either miming or using a backing track. I think it is likely that she used a backing track and sang live, considering she did so when she was here on TV in '99. - ----- Original Message ----- From: Shane Pearce To: Sent: Tuesday, October 23, 2001 1:06 PM Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel last night on Ray Martin Live in Aus > Heya > > When Jewel was on the Today show in Australia, Today, she did an interview > with one of the host's and it looked like she could not wait to get away > from it. I unfortunaly had to sit through 3/4 of an hour of Billy "bloody" Connolly. I'm not sure what the hell he was talking about or even if he finished any sentence he started on the same topic. But yeah, I was annoyed that their was no interview with Jewel, I'm sure it would of been much more interesting than the "Scottish Trumpet" (sorry to all scottish people and trumpet players that I just offended ;) ) Anyways, maybe Rove will do an interview, even though he has already had her on his Radio show in Melbourne and did an interview then. But I'm pretty sure even though Rove Live, is supposedly "Live", it's taped, because the Corrs were on last Tuesday at the same time they were doing a Melbourne concert, so I'm guessing this was probably one of the Jewel's taped shows in Melbourne last week, but I could be wrong. Also, Heather Nova is a brillant artist, as I've always been saying, and everyone should go buy her new Album which I believe was released Aug/Sep, something like that. It's called "South". Also get her album "Siren" and "Oyster" which are both great. But I have never seen her "live". I think she came to Aus once, but didn't do any concerts, oh well. I'm sure she's not a bitch, "say it isn't so, andrea"... ;) that's enough from me, cya all later "There is a paradise that can be found... A better life to bring us round... I think that is the main reason I like her so much is because she doesn't do the "pop" thing. I'm more a fan of lyrics than the instrumentation although without the instrumentation you don't have the song. ;-) But it seems like so often now all of the pop songs sound the same as far as the music goes and most of the time the lyrics are crap. (Just an opinion) Anyway.....sorry for rambling. One more thing though (sorry Derrick) I just don't get the Michelle Branch thing. I've tried to like her, really I have, but I just can't see the big attraction. To me she just sounds like another pop singer. It's not like I hate her or anything, I've even burned some CD's with a few of her songs on them...but I find myself skipping past her songs when they start playing. Maybe I'm just more of a "folky" chick. =-) I'm more drawn towards Brenda Kahn and Mary Lou Lord type music. Alright, I guess I have to say something... Yes, I know Shakira for years, since the big hit Estoy Aqui (I think it's it) and I actually liked it. So I borrowed the CD from a friend and I thought it sucked... Then she came with a new CD and the No Creo single which was fine. I got the CD again and it was way better than the 1st, but still not great. I think Ojos Asi is her best song, I like it. But when I got to hear this english song... I mean, she was growing, I could see it, but now I don't know... I don't see a future for her in the USA, although her song is becoming a hit.
