Hello, I wanted to introduce myself to you guys! My name is Mi Rinda and I am from Minnesota. I have been a huge fan of Jewel's since 1997. I am glad that I finally found a list with people who enjoy her music as much, if not more than I do. I must admit I just recently discovered downloading some of her unreleased songs. I am loving that. Okay, not to sound like an idiot...but what's all this about sucking? The first e-mail I got from this group was someone saying how everyone sucks. Did I miss something bad, or should I just never mind. :) Nice to meet y'all! Mi Rinda "After the battles and we're still around, everything once up in the air has settled down. Sometimes It Be That Way In The United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, the album will be released on Tuesday, November 13th. It will be released a bit earlier in Japan on October 31st. Jewel's new album will also be released in a limited edition double album vinyl set for all you turntable audiophiles and for those who miss the days of 12" record albums. The vinyl edition contains the same tracks as the domestic CD spread over four LP sides. Most of Latin America, Europe and South East Asia will see a release date scheduled during the first quarter of 2002. Also, of particular interest to JeweLink members and computer users in general, is that "This Way" will be an enhanced CD containing a video of an alternate studio version of one of the album tracks. We hope the increased frequency of JeweLink editions isn't overwhelming anyone. I'm sure many of you recall sending in questions for Jewel not too long ago. Most of your questions were helpful for various projects we're working on, but Jewel thought it would be fun to answer a few directly over the next few JeweLinks. So that's what we'll do. Today's question was submitted by Leslie Wagner. Leslie asks: First of all, thank you for the opportunity to ask you a question. I caught your performance at Humphrey's in San Diego and was blown away by the 'new sound' from you and your band. It was funky and fabulous. How will your new album be comprised? Primarily made up of songs with this 'new sound'...mixed with songs of your previous 'sound'? What about any acoustic songs? Jewel answers: I'm glad the show at Humphrey's came off well, even though it was my band's first nights. This record is eclectic, raw and diverse. It has more teeth than my "Spirit" album, but more band than "Pieces of You." There's funny stuff, rock and even slightly country-sounding stuff, so I'm told. And yes, there are two bonus tracks that are live acoustic versions of Grey Matter and Sometimes It Be that Way. For awhile, we'll continue to include Jewel's answers to your questions in each edition of JeweLink. Also, a reminder to those of you interested in joining the Official JeweLink Street Team, you can learn more about it, as well as sign up, at our new "This Way" page at: http://www.jeweljk.com/low/thisway.html You can also sign up at: http://www2.fanscape.com/jewel/signup.asp Enjoy your weekend, MrBB - --- You can help a friend subscribe by having them send a blank email to join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com To view selected back issues of JeweLink, please visit the JeweLink Archive at the www.jeweljk.com calendar page. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Oct 2001 00:26:50 EDT From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] More Chart Information + Rollingstone.com article Jewel has just debuted on two of the charts of another Radio Airplay Tracker: Radio and Records. She debuts at #22 on the Hot AC Chart (this week's highest debut), and #29 on the Triple A Rock Chart. I also found a brief article from Rolling Stone that talks a bit about recording the album, and gives an assurance that the album is good (or at least that's what I percieve it to be). Jewel Gets Gritty For the first time in her career, Jewel actually enjoyed a recording session - -- that of This Way, her first album of all-new material in three years. "Doing records has always been hard for me," she says. "I could never figure out how to sing emotionally in the studio." To capture some grit on This Way , Jewel grabbed the reins herself, co-producing the record in Nashville with Faith Hill producer Dan Huff. Her confidence is evident: The album is an assured collection of folky pop songs, atmospheric numbers and tracks like "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone," a Melissa Etheridge-style rocker. "It was fun to scream a bit," she says. Out November 13th, This Way comes on the heels of a two-year break, during which Jewel says she contemplated never making another record. "In 1999, things had gotten too big," she says. "I was burned out." She spent time at the Texas ranch of boyfriend, rodeo champion Ty Murray, planning her next move. "Neil Young told me never to rely on hit records," she says. "It's a commitment I had to make. I have no interest in applying for the homecoming queen title every year.
