Has this been my year or what?? Last night I tuned in to 3AW FM in Melbourne, Australia over the internet to listen to Jewel's interview... I was getting pretty frustrated because the streaming audio kept buffering and it was hard to keep up with the conversation and know what she was talking about... They were displaying the phone number to call in.. so I was like what the heck.. so I did it and called... (Keep in mind I'm in Houston, TX calling Australia) Well they put me on the air!! and I got to talk to Jewel and ask her a question!! I said "Hi Jewel this is Matt calling from Houston, TX..." and Jewel was like "No Way" and laughed in disbelief that I had called from the Texas.. The dj was like what time is in Houston? I answered "it's after 9 oclock" and Jewel was like yeah it's like 9:40pm... then the dj asked why i was tuning in over the internet.. and I was like "Jewel Ofcourse" and she laughed at that... I told her how much I liked Standing Still and the video.. and asked what Ty's Reaction was to being in the video?? She answered something to the effect that they have had a private relationship and tried to stay out of the spotlight up unitl they appeared in People.. etc... and she needed a love interest for the video.. and he probably prefered it to be himself rather than seing her in that manner with some model... I said "You guys are so adorable and I really admire your relationship and how you both have been able to maintain your individuality in your careers" Jewel was like "awwww... I really appreciate that... " the DJ then asked me something about Jewel... and I said "Jewel is an amazing person... her and her mother started Higher Ground for Humanity to give back to the community... they both really set the standards for the rest of us to live our lives by" He thanked me for calling in.. and Jewel said something to the affect of.. "Man he's great.. I need to hire him as my Public Relations Guy..." They played Standing Still and Jesus Loves You.. and she sang a song live but I did not get to hear what it was... She did a shorter interview this time but on different stuff, so it was good. They also played the full version of "Standing Still", I think's it's starting to grow on me now ;) She also did a in studio performance of "Break Me", I love this song, it was probably more the fact that I love Jewel when she plays live. Anyways, the only bad thing was again I had to leave my office, and because when I rang the radio station and they told me 5pm and she actually came on at 6:30pm, mainly because I think Jewel was running one and a half hours late ;) I had to wait outside in the cold for that period, dedicated aren't I? ;) I think she owes me an apology, but she sang "Break Me" which is one of the songs I was dying to hear, so I'll forgive her :) Anyways, I've gotta run, cya guys. take care Daniel "There is a paradise that can be found... On the Gavin charts: HOT ADULT CONTEMPORARY - Jewel jumped from #28-#21 - she is still the #1 most hyperactive song (meaning most increased spins) for the second week running POP TOP 40 - Jewel jumped from somewhere between #50 and #60 to #48. The actual chart only goes up to #40, but there is a "chartbound" section which details the next ten songs that will enter the charts soon... Jewel was #8. If she continued to get more spin increases she should enter this chart in the next few weeks. ADULT CONTEMPORARY - #42 - she's #2 on the "chartbound" column ROCK TRIPLE A - Jewel jumped from #36 to #29 this week. All these formats gave her a total number of plays of about 1800 this week, according to Gavin, which is about double from last week... This is increasing rapidly on a daily basis.. especially in the Hot AC format. Unfortunately, she has yet to debut on the Billboard Hot 100... but hopefully she will next week. She should also debut on the Radio and Records Charts this week. If you want to call radio stations... try to focus on stations that play mostly Pop songs (ie - britney spears, backstreet boys etc etc)... because the song is already massively successful on the Hot AC stations (which are the second most important, and Jewel's most common radio format).. and will probably be #1 at some point... but she needs to gain stations and spins at Pop stations if the song is really going to be a huge hit... so try to call your local pop stations.
