["jake skyles" Subject: [EDA] 100 Women in Rock (New magazine) I just saw a magazine in a Barnes and Noble earlier that was one of those special issues...it's called something like The top 100 Women of Rock, or something like that. It's put out by Guitar One magazine and Rockrgrl (however it's spelled). Madonna is on the cover. The name is a bit misleading though since many of the names listed aren't really "rock" in the traditional sense. So I figured Jewel HAS to be in it. I see artists ranging from Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin to Dido, Shawn Colvin, and Lauryn Hill. Lots of variety for sure. After thumbing past Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, and few others I figured Jewel should be coming up soon. Well guess what? She's NOT on it! Can you believe that? I sure can't. I mean, I think every female artist that had even somewhat of a successful career is in this magazine. I mean, when people like Shawn get in, and Jewel doesn't, I really don't understand. Even the band Kittie was in it. Go figure. I mean they had like every type of female oriented solo artist or band you could think of. The Bangles, The Go's go's, Liz Phair, Juliana Hatfield, Jill Sobule, etc, etc, on and on. NO Jewel though. If anyone may have some insight as to why they didn't choose Jewel to be in the 100 list, let me know. I'm sure curious. She's been far more successful than many of the artists listed. Some deserve to be in it of course, but when I see people like Dido in there (granted she's very popular *now*) but I don't see Jewel, something isn't right. Shannon Curfman was in there too (one of my favorites...she's awesome on the guitar...playing mostly blues/rock). Chasing Down The Dawn for just $6. :-( I couldn't believe it; I mean it's still a relatively newish book and they were selling it off for just $6 (it normally sells for around $35 here) Even though I already have a copy I brought another 3 copies of it anyway coz I felt like I had to save Jewel's Book! *lol* Bet when "This Way" comes out the book store will be kicking themselves coz Jewel is gonna kick ass with her new album and they'll wish they didnt sell her off for so cheap! FIRST VERSE: It's leaving time again I'm headed out with all my friends It's a roll of the dice I've never thought twice About the way I've been spending my time ?Drying? my guts out for every dime --- could be "drawing" Working in an office building tall You don't know who's next to you at all But being out here The blood, the guts, the beer Is a test Only time will tell It brings you close, man Closer than heaven CHORUS: We're leaving, leaving again Can't recall where are we been I guess we'll just go Go till we're too old Or we run out of road VERSE 2: The other day I talked to Lou He quit back in 92 Says he misses it bad Those were the best time he ever had He said, "Give it hell to the end Cause once you quit You can't get it back again." REPEAT CHORUS BRIDGE: Expensive cabs and shitty food Washed down with cancelled flights This week endorsement holidays You miss your boy and I'm why Oh the late night drives, the calls ?Dawn? to strike you like a knife - this is just a hunch Hey man, this is a beautiful life We're leaving, leaving again... BE HAPPY!!! im happy... i just love jewel and nothing can stop that!!! since we are for sharing opinions here lately, i thought id share mine. thanks for listening to me ramble again. now and zen girl - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Oct 2001 08:37:00 EDT From: JeWeLzKeWL@aol.com Subject: [EDA] I love the video! Kinda simple, I guess, but still good.. As for Lou, I do not follow pro rodeo close enough to know who he is, but again, with country, often there is a "bill," "joe" or something along thoses lines in the story of the song, and since Lou rhymes with 92, it might just be some made up, beat up, broke down cowboy to add to the song, while getting the rhyme. Then again, I dig ditches, and do not write for a living... rw >From: Fredsteve@aol.com >To: jewel@smoe.org >Subject: [EDA] Til We Run Out of Road Lyrics >Date: Sun, 7 Oct 2001 01:44:05 EDT > >Here are the lyrics to Til We Run Out of Road... the song itself really >compliments them.. but you can tell that this was written by somebody else >WITH Jewel.. and that that somebody else isn't necessarily the most >experienced songwriter (ie - the use of the word "guts" in the first place.. >let alone it's use twice...)... there were a couple of words I wasn't sure >of.. so if anybody has any suggestions as to what else they might be, or any >discrepencies at all.. email me. thanks. > > >FIRST VERSE: > >It's leaving time again >I'm headed out with all my friends >It's a roll of the dice >I've never thought twice >About the way I've been spending my time >?Drying? my guts out for every dime --- could be "drawing" > >Working in an office building tall >You don't know who's next to you at all >But being out here >The blood, the guts, the beer >Is a test >Only time will tell >It brings you close, man >Closer than heaven > >CHORUS: > >We're leaving, leaving again >Can't recall where are we been >I guess we'll just go >Go till we're too old >Or we run out of road > >VERSE 2: > >The other day I talked to Lou >He quit back in 92 >Says he misses it bad >Those were the best time he ever had >He said, "Give it hell to the end >Cause once you quit >You can't get it back again." > >REPEAT CHORUS > >BRIDGE: > >Expensive cabs and shitty food >Washed down with cancelled flights >This week endorsement holidays >You miss your boy and I'm why >Oh the late night drives, the calls >?Dawn? to strike you like a knife - this is just a hunch >Hey man, this is a beautiful life > >We're leaving, leaving again... > >REPEAT CHORUSx2 + Scat Ending - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Oct 2001 21:03:55 +0100 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: [EDA] Standing Still Jukebox 7" 45 For collectors out there, it looks like Atlantic has released the first promo Jewel single on vinyl. Hi All, I was at Amazon's site today looking at the reviews of Spirit. This one from Atlantic was included among them. The label, Wea/Atlantic Rep. (division MCA) , December 16, 1998 Wea/Atlantic Review of Jewel's groundbreaking "Spirit" We here at Wea/Atlantic are amazed by the wonderful reviews Jewel's new album is recieving. "Spirit" was intended to be a simple fan album, and wasn't really directed towards the masses. Our entire staff was initially wary at how it would be accepted, considering the melancholy, brooding theme of "Spirit." However, we were pleasantly surprised by how the public embraced the deep aspects of Jewel's newest release. In addition, we suggest for all the Jewel fans out there to keep their eyes open for a special, short album in January tentatively titled "The Ladies Choice." It will feature a few previously unreleased b-sides of Jewels', and a special insert pictorial with several provocative, adult-oriented photo shoots featuring Jewel. In the words of Jewel; "We are all fragile flames." We like to believe that Jewel strenghtens us all through her masterpieces. Enjoy. I had never heard anything about this, "The Ladies Choice", album. Hey and what about the "adult-oriented photo shoots featuring Jewel"!? That is something i would be interesteed in seeing. Does anyone know anything about this? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #457 ***************************
