SOMEBODY must have some pictures If you can't remember it was the one where she wore that red and white checkered shirt and blue jeans - if that's the one you attended. I've been calling Philadelphia's Alice 104.5 like made requesting Standing Still and they haven't played it yet! I finally got the DJ to tell me that they all absolutely love the song and are waiting for their boss to start allowing them to playing it. He even gave me the number for the head music guy to start bugging him because all the DJ's have been requesting it too. So, if you wanna bug this guy that has the power to play Jewel call Kenny Walker at 610-668-0750. Also, you can go to New York's Z100 website and vote for Jewel to be included in this years Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden! I went last year and it was so much fun -- would have been better if Jewel was one of the performers! Can't wait to see the new video on TRL. Gotta go, Laurie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2001 17:44:59 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] Standing Still is pop Well I finally heard SS today on the live Jewel broadcast here on the radio. I'm not impressed. As others have already said, I (we) can only hope the other songs are better and less pop sounding. She says she didn't write this CD with the thought of singles in mind, but judging from how SS sounds, that's sure hard to believe. My first thoughts when I hear the first minute of the song was imagining it playing while the credits were rolling for a TV show like 90210 or Dawson's Creek. Anyone remember that song by Paula Cole called "I Don't Wanna Wait"? Yeah, think of that, and there you go. That's SS. I know this next comment will get it's share of flames but I really don't care because if people can't accept the truth, then that's too bad. But to me, the song sounds more "poppier" than Miss Spears' new single. Of course hers is very "produced" as Jewel's is, but it sounds less mainsteam than Jewel's single does. Imagine that. Oh well. I guess I'll wait for the CD to come out and see what happens then since I still haven't heard a live version of Standing Still. Maybe it's better, but even so, that's not really saying much from what I already heard. The first few seconds I was wondering why she started playing country...and even now it's still a borderline country song....at least how the overall sound is. But I know that's nothing new for Jewel either. Just surprising after reading all the hype about how the new CD wasn't even supposed to be remotely close to that. I was anticipating a rocked out song. So if anyone likes edgier, more rockin songs, go buy Michelle Branch's new CD. It's not any more produced than Jewel's (probably less), and you can actually hear the guitar in the songs. :-) Not drum machine beats underdubbed with vocals and some sort of weird sounds. I never thought Jewel would go that route, but I guess we're all surprised sooner or later. Maybe the rest of the CD will be better. My only glipmse of hope is that Jewel said every song is the complete opposite of the one before. Of course if you really think about that, that means there will only be 2 types of songs on the CD. But I think I know what she meant to say. So I hope that's true. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2001 19:16:42 EDT From: EastAngelEDA@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] NEW ALBUM - so excited! OMG! "Sometimes it be that Way!" And there were two vocal tracks. The main one and the harmonizing vocals. She recorded in the studio with a band instead of piecing/editing the separate parts together like other people do. I heard Standing Still yet again today. I always hear it when I'm coming home from work at 6:00. Three days in a row it's been on right when I get into my car. I love it :) Anyways... although I'm not as pessimistic as some others on the board, I'd have to agree that SS is not her strongest song. It's not timeless, like Foolish Games, WWSYS or YWMFM. It's a good song, I really really like it, but it's not very "Jewely." Anyways, the sad part of this story is that the DJ on my radio station made fun of Jewel yesterday. You know how the end of SS goes "do you want me like i want you" and goes on and repeats that. The DJ mocked her and said... "that's all I have to do to be a huge star" and keeps going on mocking Jewel in a horrible voice. Grrr....... Then today the same DJ played the song again-- the third day in a row, but didn't make fun of it. He must like in some if he keeps playing it. It pissed me off that he made fun of it though... I kinda wish Jewel had picked a different, older more classic "Jewel" song for her single.. ya know... full of thought provoking wonderful lyrics, but I won't be so pessimistic, like some :) I'm happy with anything Jewel.
