I'm going to college at Ohio UNiveristy in athens and we get exactly 5 radio stations total. Including AM and FM. I've chosen the one most likely to play it but i don't think it's going to happen. So i guess i'm wondering if anyone in ohio has heard the song? and if so where? If you gave me the URL where you posted, I would be willing to second what you said (about the artists being 'wheeled' on and off and the like! I would urge the rest of you to do the same. Let's do this, let's show people that Jewel fans are educated and want interviews that mean something. And what's all this push up business? Is Mr. Letterman really that condescending?? You had Jewel on who is one of the more exceptionally caring and genuine human beings on the planet; yet instead of bothering to interview her or get her opinions regarding last weeks events, you made us watch Will Ferrel do push-up. Come on, like anyone cares how many push-ups he can do. If you listen to any of Jewel's music or read her poetry; you will know that she has a lot to say and can do more than sing and play a guitar. I've seen you do this to countless music artists; you bring them on, have them sing whatever song is popular at the time, and then you disregard them as if they are mindless jukebox's there only for your immediate entertainment. She is a spiritual and emotional person and she should be given the courtesy of being able to express her opinions. > > You also completely disregarded the fact that she has a new album coming out on November 13th. Your tone in mentioning it seemed almost a painful bother. You didn't even have the courtesy to mention the title (which for the record it "This Way") I'm guessing that perhaps you didn't even try to find out that information. I realize that in light of recent events it's not the most important issue to plug a new album, but you could have a least feigned interest. > > Thank You For Your Time, > > Kristie K. Unfortunately, that's standard practice for Letterman. I can't recall having seen a case where the performing musical guest was also interviewed. He's had musicians on for interviews, but they never perform that night. It appears to be some rule, not just a common thing they do. Perhaps a kind note suggesting that they consider breaking tradition in light of the tragedy might help? Since Jewel's already been on, I doubt she'd be brought back, but you never know. Still, if we wrote suggesting they consider that for some other future artist (one who also has things to say), I think it could work. ray Ray Wong PO BOX 6163 negativl at best.com, negativl at netcom.com Hayward, CA 94540-6163 Member #11537, Deborah Gibson International Fan Club Co-Founder and Charter Member, Sutton Foster International Fan Club ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Sep 2001 12:21:25 -0400 From: "David & Beth" Subject: Re: [EDA] Letterman opportunity SQUANDERED Oh, just so no one thinks that this is hypocritical in light of the post re: Private e-mails, this post was meant for the list, but I hit reply instead of reply all (after which whomever of us is writing usually deletes the original sender) - ----- Original Message ----- From: "David & Beth" To: Sent: Friday, September 21, 2001 11:53 AM Subject: Fw: [EDA] Letterman opportunity SQUANDERED > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "David & Beth" > To: "Tom" > Sent: Friday, September 21, 2001 10:44 AM > Subject: Re: [EDA] Letterman opportunity SQUANDERED > > > > Jewel was asked by Letterman to come on and perform Hands. CYNIC Eyes--Slight pierce in the glance. Rolling eyes like "Oh, sure...", Look: smerking glance like they know you are full of shit and life sucks. These people dont like and get nervous when tranquil. Famous Examples: Rodney Dangerfield, Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, John Belushi, Sandra Benrhard, Humphrey Bogart, Lennie Bruce, George Carlin, James Dean, Whoopi Goldberg, Mick Jagger, Khomeni, Steve Martin, Rex Reed, Andy Rooney, Frank Sinatra, Oliver Stone, Christopher Walken I am an idealist...that's why i find you cynics so annoying! jewel's one too so you see that's why you can't stand some of her 'sappier' songs...i LOVE THEM!! of course i'm an idealist...and that abrades w/ cynics IDEALIST Look "I can be more than I am". More intellectually enthusiastic--mood swings from disappointment--like to look right at you--forward thinking--likes to manipulate situations to get things "how they should be". Famous Examples: JFK, Martin Luther King, Karen Allen, Tammy Bakker, Mikhail Barysshnikov, Candice Bergen, Ingred Bergman, Richard Burton, Johnny Carson, Fidel Castro, Bill Cosby, Robert DeNiro, George Harrison, Gary Hart, Goldie Hawn, JImi Hendrix, Paul Simon, Gloria Steinem, Elizabeth Taylor, Spencer Tracy, Vanna White. with that said...i AM manipulating this situation to how it SHOULD be...not how it will be. Telling a cynic to look on the bright side is a little pointless, but i'm an idealist so what can i say? >From: SeanHooks@aol.com > > > > Let's just compare this shoddy piece of >cornball songwriting man that's kinda mean...that someone's 'ART' someone sat down and wrote that...maybe you don't like it, but to say it is shoddy is, of course your opinion, but it is also disrespectful to any 'artist'...just my opinion...i would never say (or at least try not to) that a song is terrible or horrible songwriting...cuz that IS someones art...and me being an 'artist' that makes me somewhat sad....especially since we're talking about an artist we all REALLY like...well if you don't like jewel...why are you here? if you don't like a song, that's ok...but i don't like to see someone say something is 'shoddy' writing...it's just disrespectful in my opinion. >requires a >lot more courage then Jewel singing "Hands." who's to say that? you? hmmmm...ok? > Besides being poorly written, the song is another example of how >hypocritical this country is. We say there is supposed to be separation of >church and state and freedom of, and from, religion, and yet everywhere I >turn I hear GOD bless America, or, a day of mourning and PRAYER. Sickening. everyone has a right to choose and your acceptance of that will make you that much closer to agape! >The recent events in New York City were caused, as are most acts of >violence >throughout history, BY religion. It pains me to hear Jewel, who once >uttered >lyrics like "we are that to which we pray," stooping to the bland, >ineffectual, Lemming-ness of "we are god's hands." I don't believe jewel ever actually said 'hands' was about religion...but i don't remember for sure...however when she mentions 'god' that could be anything...it's just whatever you wish that 'god' to be...some of us have different ideas of what 'god' is...but i correlate 'god' with unconditional love (or agape if you like cool words!)...and 'in the end only kindness matters' calls for acceptance in a way (which leads to agape)...that's all, it may be corny to some, but it is very beneficial for anyone and everyone. As for my 'opinion' of the song 'hands'...i believe it is very good lyrically...one of her best...sometimes the best songs do not need to be very long (in terms of verses)...sometimes the best songs are the most simple. some of the best lines are 'in the end only kindness matters' 'we are to which we pray' and 'we are god's hands' (we are the controllers of 'love' [i equate 'love' and 'god'] before you can love anyone else truely you must first love yourself) wow, long post!!! anyways...the point is everyone sees things differently so be careful how 'emphatic' you voice your opinions. it could hurt someones feelings... a simple i don't care for that song will suffice, going on and on about how terrible it is, does not help anyone. that's my opinion on things though...so take it as you want! ;} tom the 'cactus' angel who really digs the 'michael teachings'!! http://www.michaelteachings.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Sep 2001 16:40:33 -0400 From: "Shannon Mackie" Subject: [EDA] Jewel's Radio Tour I'm glad to see that she's doing three stations in Philadelphia - any way to find out what time??? Hey Eda's i haven't posted in a really long time, but i was fortuneate enought to see Jewel on Letterman and TRL. I have never seen Jewel perform Hands as well as she did on these past two appearences. I loved the acoustic version and you could really tell that she was singing from her heart (well she always does but even more so taking into consideration the tragedy that is facing us all during these times) Um but yeah, it was a really good performance and the song fits so well to what is happening. Jewel never fails to give me chills when she sings live. I hope everyone is doing well. I am Canadian and it has shaken up the way most Canadians live too. Our thoughts are with you!! Love Lisa *~Angelbaby*~ P.s i liked jewel's belt and matching necklace on TRL. it was really cute. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #423 ***************************
