Just turned on Z100...Jewel will be on about 4:20. She's late because the new studio is in Hoboken, NJ (the original one was damaged in the WTC attack) and she hit traffic coming through the tunnel. She was supposed to be on at 4pm. The DJ made a joke...(Just a joke!) "that bitch, I bet she's never been to Hoboken-we'll she's here now!" They are going to be talking to her about "hands" and how it has become an anthem for the recovery and will be playing at least one song from the new cd. Stay tuned..... Beth & David ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 17:43:51 -0400 From: "David & Beth" Subject: [EDA] JEWEL ON Z100 Hi. Just heard the Jewel interview and performance on Z100. This is long, but I wanted to give people who didn't hear it the details. She was great. Jewel was late because she got stuck in the tunnel going to NJ. Jewel said she was camping in Northern California with Ty and they didn't have a radio or tv, so she didn't find out what happened until they drove home. They started seeing flags at half staff and thought something local happened, but then realized there were flags all over and put on the radio or tv and heard about it. She said she wrote hands from a parent's perspective of telling their child about a tragedy, not realizing how fitting it would be now. She told Cubby (the DJ) that there is a song on the new CD that is more fitting...the New Wild West. She asked if they could play it from the Cd even though it's not a single. But they didn't. He asked her what it was like flying now, but she said the record label brought her out on a private plane. Cubby also joked with her that she is wearing nicer clothes and alot more diamonds then she was when they first met (when pieces of you came out) and she said the Diamonds were from Atlantic. She did an acoustic version of hands and they played their new version for her (which has clips of Bush and people talking about the WTC attack). They took a few calls from people thanking Jewel for inspiring them, etc. and from one of the rescue workers who said he had to pull over the first time he heard the new version of hands when he was driving home from the city after being part of the rescue crew.Jewel was supposed to leave but she ended up staying. They said she was all teary eyed after doing the acoustic version of hands. During the interview they joked about the van story (Jewel said that is the most commonly asked question by DJs and the 2nd is if she ever lived in an igloo). She talked about being very disenchanted with the record industry and very burnt out after the Spirit tour and after doing Joy. She said she wasn't going to do another album until it was done the way she wanted it to sound, and that's why she waited a few years. He asked if she'd do the Jingle ball this year and she said she would probably if she's not on tour, but that she's probably be on tour in Europe at the end of Dec. She said she'd be on Letterman tomorrow night and would be doing an acoustic version of hands. They played standing still when she left and said they'd be playing it alot and they thought it would be a hit.(I'm not sure how much I like it...sounds very pop..I think I like the really old stuff better). Well, I think that's everything!! Take care, Beth ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 18:57:46 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] My #1 wish for "This Way" is...... hey folks :-) I dunno about y'all, but for "This Way" I certainly hope the J-team chooses a bigger font than the size TWO font they used for the liner notes Spirit. Sheeesh...I need an electron microscope to read the &%$@ ing thing.....not to mention some stuff in there seemed to be a -3 font. Also many are writing me asking if the annual WMBX Mixfest was cancelled due to terrorism threats. I really don't know the answer to this question, but with it being a big high profile outdoor stadium event with many artists, and the current state of the nation, that doesn't sound out of the realm of possibility. If you want to keep up on Jewel TV and radio, I suggest checking Jewel's website calendar often. Updates and changes are occuring faster than we can get JeweLink messages together, but the calendar is almost always updated quickly. (It's been updated six times already today!) Look for next week's radio station tour in Friday's JeweLink and don't forget Letterman tomorrow night. She said they >thought she was getting too "old" and that because she hadn't released an >album for a while that she had lost all her popularity. > >>~Rachel~ > WOW! really? that's silly...sounds like they put her in a category of 'has been'...that's sad. Sorry i was not aware of the fact that she had spoken about it at nashville...didn't go to nashville unfortunately.. if even only a quater of the people that bought poy buys this new record, then i would consider this new album to be successful. 26 is too old!! man, what's wrong with these people...i wonder if alanis morrisette is gonna have to go thru this too...she hasn't put out new material in a long time either (the parallels between her and jewel are so obvious) it's all about an image now-a-days...what about joni mitchell? is she too old? madonna...hmmm...well...she's pretty 'old' too...and i know, these are established artists that have probably never gone two consective years w/o releasing new material, but still...to say that jewel is 'too old' is downright scary when you think about the future of female artists out there....it's like the mtv syndrom...once you hit thirty, you're out the door...it's time to move on to someone younger...gotta get that teen demographic. sad indeed, tom the 'cactus' angel _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 19:01:29 EDT From: NikosSong@aol.com Subject: [EDA] baltimore/DC edas...quick I was just happening to be listening to Mix 106.5, when they announced they will be debuting Jewel's new single around 7:00, and they would like people to call in to see how they like it. As I been hearing most of the "major" artists will be in it, including movies and musical. I really hope she participates and sings "Hands " or "Life Uncommon" , I think it would be most poignant and it would lift up spirits . We need that. peace Uri, Lucky Angel. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Sep 2001 21:54:32 -0300 From: "FabioJJ" Subject: [EDA] This Way's cover Hi! About This Way's cover, I think it was really well made. The picture is really cool, and I see what they mean by putting "Jewel" in blue color. Aren't they worried that Jewel don't sell many CDs anymore? So, they really want to call attention. "Jewel", written in lightblue and in a big size, on a black and white cover really calls attention. I believe the CD will all be like black and white. I only think that maybe they could use another font. I personally don't like very much when the "J" is in the same botton line as the whole word (did you get? I couldn't get better words to say it...). I'll explain. See "Jewel" written on the Spirit's cover. The "J" goes a little under the rest of the word, get it? I love it! I know my English is not prefect, but I tried to do my best, so I hope you understand what I mean... Melissa is the lucky winner. I'm sorry to those that did not win. i was going to reply to each of you but there was just too many of you. Which leads me to believe that more people should do this. I was honestly surprised by how many people do not have any angelfood. Every Jewel fan deserves to hear her amazing music. So let's share, everyone. I did my part. I will try to do this again later in the year.
