The USS John F Kennedy (an aircraft carrier) is being sent to NY to help guard the city and provide medical services. The JFK was stationed in North Florida for a while im not sure if its home base is still here or not. Several local flight schools are under federal investigations including one in Daytona Beach were almost half of the people i work with go to school. To make matters worse theres a tropical depression in the Gulf of mexico. Its expected to hit the western central coast of Florida as a hurricane Saturday. They are expecting it to be only a minimal hurricane, of which ive seen many and i am not that worried. What Im most worried about is if we need assistance. It's mainly British, but it's one of the larger bases, and a few big NATO people and stuff work here, as well as military from all over the world. A lot of people from America and Canada included. At the moment the base is on code "amber", just one down from code red. My school was open today but the people who arrived from outside the base were hours late. It took over an hour for people to get access on the base, which I suppose is reassuring. We had to check all the cupboards and stuff for bombs which was a bit weird... If it goes to red alert we'll be stuck in whichever building we're in until the alert ends. So I could be in school or work for weeks on end. I'm off to buy a mobile phone on Saturday just in case, so I can stay in contact with my parents. I've never felt attached to the military really - my dad just teaches for them so I have no real connection. But, living here, the chance of there being a third world war in the near future really scares me. A lot of my friends will probably be fighting and maybe dying, if there is a war. It's just unreal, that any of this has happened, and that I'm actually thinking about these things happening to us in the future. I don't feel safe now, and that Nostradamus stuff has made it a bit worse I suppose... It's just mad. I work in the NAAFI store (basically a PX) on the base and today I was checking people's IDs. On a base where thousands of military personnel work, they put a 17 year-old schoolkid (as well as others - we were on in shifts) basically in charge of security. What am I going to be able to do? It's a low risk at the moment, but more of a risk than we'd have thought of the World Trade Centre being blown up. I just really hope it was a single attack from a small group... If it is bigger and if America do retaliate we will have World War 3 happening right in front of us and I would rather it be a one-off terrible tragedy than just the beginning of a string of them.... I was having terrible nightmares and for the first time I can say I am afraid. The whole situation it's incredible, yesterday I was in shock and mad, tonight I'm shaking. I have not and can't turn off the tv, I'm afraid that if I do, somehing might happen ....there are a lot of poeple still alive trapped in the rumble, calls and even emails from laptops have said to been received, the problem is that noone knows where they are, 2 buildings of 110 story each crumbled, I don't know if the subway that rides bellow it was with people, there's a stop right there at the wtc. I'm praying , but I and probably a lot of people are going to need a lot of counseling and therapy.I don't think I can get on a plane for a long time. Sorry that I'm rambling on but I can't wake up anybody at 100am to talk, it would be insane to do that to my friends in this situation. I guess the fact that I don't have to work and don't know if or when I'll do has sunked in also.So I'm in my house and not going anywhere. Gas it's about $1.60 here from the $1.40 it was yesterday, I don't want to waste mine driving around. It's crazy.the airports and airspace will still be shut down tomorrow and the market probably won't open this week,the repecusions economically of this are devastating, billions and billions of dollars have been lost in 2 days and will keep on happening, this will affect each and everyone of us in the near future. Lord, how evil and how fanatic could a group of people be to do this to innocent people??? I feel so helpless , I can't give blood 'cause I got a tattoo this year and they don't let you give only after a year. I wish I was a Dr or something that I could go and help. I did not argue with the persons prerogative to post their sentiment nor would We appreciate those private e-mails sent in support. We also understand that people may not agree with our sentiment on a topic. People have different opinions, if we did not, the American way of life would not be so important to defend. That being said, opinions on topics posted to the list should be responded to there. If someone took the time to post what they know will be a controversial opinion to the list, that opinion should be responded to on the list. If not, then the poster may as well have sent each member the e-mail individually, and that defeats the whole purpose. We are going through a terrible tragedy as a nation right now.
