Humphreys and the EDA Gathering: I was gonna write a huge 5 page detailed essay about that weekend, but as I kept hitting the 'reply later' button...I kept forgetting what I wanted to say. :P The Alaskan Festival/EDA Gathering had the right intentions but problems with the finer scheduling performer details made it go sour for a few attendees. I had a blast watching Lisa Sanders and listening to her stories of "back in the day" when Jewel was just getting started at open mic nights. I'd want to thank all the EDAs/EDA friends that I met that weekend. I'm sorry if I've forgotten a few names. To Victoria from Paris, I'd love to go watch Gregory Page at a Living Room Concert in France. :D We've gotta do it sometime! Being in the audience for both shows was very cool, the shows were a bit predictible-due to filming probably- but I have no complaints, just praise on how 'This Way' repetoire will sound. The new band had only rehersed for 2 days prior to the shows and I think the band got much better and more comfortible in the second show. Jewel is her chatty self. She told everybody the story of Race Car Driver -which is a funny story- . Jillian Speer -the opener- did an excellent performance even with technical problems the first night. Bob Dylan will be playing in SD at the RIMAC Arena UCSD on Oct 17th...a possiblity that Jewel could show up since her history for opening up and playing onstage with the man. Im not much of a Dylan fan, but I thought I'd throw that out there for any takers. Jewel also has an article in this weeks SLAMM (Support Local Musicians Magazine) San Diego edition. She is #10 in the 25 San Diego Bands of All Time. I would type out the whole thing for everybody, but to conserve space, time and finger aching in the morning check out www.slammsd.com and search for the article in issue 166 of this year. I went behind my house this morning to where there is what used to be a beautiful view of the World Trade Center & NY skyline because I had heard the tower was on fire. Whether it originated from a person, group, or sponsored by a sovereign state. And to say that another country is not responsible this early is doing exactly what you admonished us not to do- jump to a conclusion. These attacks could have easily been state sponsored by a number of countries... We're not exactly popular all over the world. As for the US not bombing other countries to get to who did it... We have made several tactical insertions, and bombing strikes at individual targets in other countries (with varying degrees of "collateral damage") in the past to make that ring false. At this moment I could name at least five off the top of my head. But Sandy is right concerning that we have to have a target before we can do anything. But once we have a target, we should follow through. If we do not stand strong it will only make it that much easier for other groups to get the courage to try an attack of their own. As for "let shit happen" I think not... We all must be alert and active during these times, which is not to mean to let passion cloud judgment. Those that "let shit happen" open themselves to further attack. But there is time in the coming days to talk about such things... Right now those of us who cannot actively hunt down who did this (which pretty much includes us all on this list) need to focus on what we can do. Like Mr. BB suggested, giving blood, but what else can we do right now? Surely there are a few other little things that we can do at the moment... I live about 1700 miles from NYC, but some therapy centers around here are offering some free counseling for those that are having a hard time coping with this, so that is an idea... If you know someone that might need some comfort, look them up and see if they are doing okay.... So, if anyone has some good ideas, post them....
