For Josie and the Pussycats those three girls didn't learn how to "play" the instruments, they learnt how to look like they were playing them onscreen. That may sound similar, but actually getting a decent sound out of an instrument is a lot easier than looking as if you're playing it amidst a lot of very quick cuts. steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2001 17:14:49 EDT From: RachKat926@aol.com Subject: [EDA] jewelstock tapes Hi all! At all. The instrumentation is really not poor, as I previously thought. It's has a very good and catchy refrain and bridge, and the instruments-only parts are great! I agree wholeheartedly here. I think that a great deal of you that are saying she's talentless are forgetting the point that she does have talent. She can dance *really* well. Your opinion of her voice does not affect whether or not she can learn to play guitar. I'm certainly not a fan of hers... I don't own any of her albums, no singles, no posters or otherwise any Britney memorabelia. Nor do I think her voice is all that amazing... but, she does deserve respect. I don't think that we are the correct people to be saying she won't be any good at guitar, and certainly shouldn't be hoping that a string will break and she'll get booed. Think about it. At her concerts, those are a ton of fans that probably paid their soul's worth to be there. I *highly* doubt they'd boo her because a string broke. I don't think anyone here should judge her until they've been there. I haven't heard of any one of us doing a billion sold out shows a year to tens of thousands of people, learning dances for a new tour, constantly being in the public eye and then trying to learn guitar at the same time. From what I've seen, none of us here are doing that. So when one of yall gets your butt up there, sells out each and every one of your concerts to like 25,000 people and, has a diamond album before you turn 21, I think then that person can say "Yeah, Britney sucks" Till then, please try to remember that it's your opinion, and it's possible to add a little more tact to your messages. Subject: [EDA] NJC: Josie, Britney, etc. Sandy said: "Even though I don't think she can pull it off, it still is possible. Tara Reid, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Rosario Dawson, all learned how to play guitar/bass/drums withint a few months for the movie Josie and the Pussycats - hard enough, and maybe she will just because she already told everyone she was going to learn guitar for her tour...." Actually, Tara, Rachael, and Rosario didn't learn how to play anything. What you hear in the movie and on the soundtrack is the voice of Kay Hanley. Formerly of Letters to Cleo fame. With backing professional musicians. The actresses are only lip syncing and acting out their parts...they do it well, yes, but they're still just acting. As far as Britney goes, I think she could learn enough to play one song for her tour...that's not something unheard of. But I don't think it would be a really difficult song. I remember seeing Madonna on Letterman awhile back debuting her new single at the time, playing acoustic guitar. She did quite well, and said that was her first time performing it for an audience, but, it wasn't the most difficult of songs either. So, I think it's possible Britney could pull it off with some practice. Then Sandy said... "Actually, I think it's rather "snooty" of her to just assume playing guitar is so easy that she can pick up, learn it, and perform it well all in that amount of time. Almost as if she thinks she's superwoman because she's famous, and if 'regular' people can play the guitar, it must not be too hard!" Who said she assumed anything? You're the one whose assuming everything here. I never heard Britney say the guitar was easy to play, I never heard her say anything about being superwoman, and I never heard her say anything about it not being too hard since regular people can play it. You are perceiving all of this. In fact, I heard Britney say something like it *was* difficult, and that she admired her b/f Justin for learning how to play so well. Then she went on to say her fingers were too short also, which made it even more difficult for her. So don't put words into Britney's mouth...that's how rumors get started and how people like her get a bad rep to begin with. I'm not taking sides, but I do listen to all sides of an issue before forming an opinion and am willing to give anyone a chance if they're serious about putting forth the effort. Don't discount someone before they've even had the chance to prove themselves. And yes, I do agree that I think Jewel learned to play basic guitar in a few months, which is one of the reasons she's admitted over and over again that she wasn't very good in the beginning. I think she'll still admit she's not the greatest of guitar players. But she learned what she needed to at the time to play the songs she wanted to play. Guitar isn't really that difficult to learn if you stick to basic chords and things like that. I learned how to play a few simple songs in a week just messing around with my then girlfriend's brother's guitar just whenever there was some extra time. I'm talking like 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there type of stuff. So it's not anything unheard of for Britney to learn a complete song in a few months time. I doubt it'll be anything like Stevie Ray Vaughn, but it'll still be a legitimate song. I'd expect something using a few basic chords. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Sep 2001 00:38:33 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: [EDA] Jewelork?
