Subject: [EDA] Oh god, part XVIII In reference to Charles' post: It would be "nice" if everyone would and could get along. And it would also be "nice" if we all lived in a perfect world. But, we don't. And I have no trouble at all with this in my "real" life because the people I associate with everyday are respectful, mature, trustworthy adults. You won't find alot of that on the list, sadly. Therefore there will continue to be those people who complain about every little thing whether they really know what's going on or not. Most of the time, they don't. So we get letters like those from Jamie, Chandini, Dennis, and now Charles. All I'm doing is simply *replying* to their letters. Anyone ever notice this? It's funny Jamie was saying I start stuff, since my only letters have been in the form of replies to other's letters. It's been a long time since I actually initiated a post on this list. Other than talking about Michelle Branch....(wow, something MUSIC-related, what a concept), it's been a long time. >Charles wrote: >Since I wanna keep the peace, I am not going to tell you and everyone >else what a jerk i think you are for that last post. And I am >also not going to say how much I agree that you just love to start shit. HAHA...if you really wanted to keep the peace, then you wouldn't say you're not going to tell certain things, only to go on and *tell* them...LOL. This is a perfect example of the hypocritical activity I spoke of actually in the letter I think Charles replied to. I guess he got offended since I was talking about him...although I didn't even know it at the time. So thanks for at least admitting you're one too. See the more people who respond to the letters, the more it supports everything I'm saying and things will really start to take shape....if they already haven't. This is hilarious! >This is exactly the kind of shit I am sure Jamie was talking about and >look, you seemed to have started it. Hmmm what does that say, WHO WAS >RIGHT?? Actually, as I've already said, my only comments have come in letters replying to others, such as Jamie. So, that makes ME right. :-) >I feel really immature for even replying to this and letting >you get to me cause I am sinking as low as you right now, but I just had >to say it. Maybe there's a justifiable reason you *"feel"* immature. >Jamie did not say anything wrong but the truth, JUST LIKE YOU >WANTED IT TO BE. HAHA...this is too funny to even comment on, but thanks for the good laugh. >Now lets forget about this and MOVE on. Then how about YOU stop posting these types of letters? By the way, I just have to jump in on that Britney thread....it's just too good to pass up. :-) I got a good laugh out of a fellow list members post about that thread...it showed a good sense of humor, something hard to find these days on the list. But I just wanted to say WHO CARES what and even if Britney said anything about Jewel?? What does it really matter? If she called her ugly, stuck up, fat, egotistical, whatever....it doesn't make a difference. She's from America like most of us are, where we have a right to say anything we want to about anyone or anything. So she can say whatever she wants, just like Jewel can tell her fans to fuck off during concerts. Do we condemn her for this? I think not. Why? Cause she's "Jewel"? Maybe...but the real reason should be because she too is from America and also has a right to talk about anyone she wants to. Just like the whole Dolores thing she used to do in concert. So lay off Britney...she has just as much right as anyone to say whatever she wants. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 03:25:19 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: [EDA] Austin City Limits Rachel wrote: >Austin City Limits will be on AGAIN on Saturday Sept. 1 at 8:00PM Central >time on your PBS station. Anyway she was amazing and I actually cried the whole time. I wasn't whining/bawling, I just had tears streaming down my face the whole time. She did an absolutely amazing version of Life Uncommon that just really touched everyone. This was a while ago of course, but I just felt like telling everyone. I've been to lots of concerts but Jewel is by far the best I've ever seen. ~Does anyone on the list like A Perfect Circle? They are awesome performers as well! I don't even bother to pretend interested, but I do think it's admirable that she is trying to expand her knowledge of music, and even if the songs she writes suck at least she's making an effort. Believe me...I am in NO way trying to argue or start anything at all about her because quite frankly I don't care about Britney Spears either way. But I do think that by at least attempting to write her own music and play guitar that I will have a little more respect for her. G'day all :-) Food for thought. No one has mentioned this yet, as far as I recall anyway, but I've had it in the back of my mind that perhaps some of the video they filmed at NashBash an/or the two Humphreys/SD shows could show up on Jewel's new CD as part of a multimedia package. They DID want to include some multimedia on "Spirit" but had run out of time, and DID have the "Gloria" video on "Joy: A Holiday Collection", so it stands to reason something will be on the "This Way" CD. IF small parts of those shows are included on the CD, It could be just about anything....from the fan interviews to a few songs. :-) Personally, I'm hoping we all get to see Jamie Mathews' one-song stint from NashBash :-) Mike :-) P.S. Michiel Van Gorkum....if you are out there, please email me. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 11:11:46 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] Artists who only perform deserve respect too. Personally, I never did understand the thoughts of some people that portray artists who do not write their own material as being inferior and/or not deserving of the same respect of those that do. Sorry, but that's hogwash. Some people can do both and do both well. They are blessed in that aspect. Some cannot sing or perform a lick or just do not want to and only want to write material. They are also called songwriters. History is full of them and MANY of them. Stands to reason then that there are some that do not write their own stuff but can and DO only perform. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. (of course, there is the medium road...artists who mostly perform but do write too, and artists who mostly write and do perform at times) I mean, suppose I myself had an absolutely terrific voice and moves that would make all the girls swoon (actually...I did last night, but it was in a dream) and could not write a song to save my life. I just do not have what it takes to write a song. Does that mean I should continue to toil at my aerospace plant? I think not. Or perhaps I just didn't WANT to write songs and only wanted to perform. Sheesh, some people would want to boil me in oil for that. It IS my right though. If you have talent in ANY creative aspect of life, be it making stained glass windows, the worlds best origami, or writing songs or just singing songs, you should go for it! It's called following ones' dreams. One should not be ridiculed for following their dreams, especially if it makes *others* happy. People here dissing other musical artists, even if mildly, should realize that EVERY single artist out there who releases music on CD or whatever format has fans. Those fans like what they hear and see and THAT is all that matters. We all should respect that and realize that on a list this size, probably every musical artist/group out there has at least one fan on this list. I doubt there's anyone here that likes ONLY Jewel. If you ask me, dissing other artists on a fan oriented list like this goes against the very fiber of this list. Yes, we have a right to not like the music of others.....if you do not like it, you do not like it.....can't help it.....but if you expect others to respect your liking of Jewel or whomever, you should respect others liking of other artists too. For the record, the purpose of my post was not to pick on any post(s) or EDAs in particular. Rather, I made my points in general due to SOME recent pieces of postsings, certainly similar occurances in the long storied history of this list, and due to reports I have gotten from some people about private emails they had received concerning things in their posts. All I was and am saying is we all should respect each others' tastes in music and musical artists, and respect all musical artists no matter how well rounded their talent is....the bottom line is that they put smiles on our faces and warmth in our hearts. :-) Mike : \ / : -- o -- : / \ : .---. .---. : / \ @ / \ : / / / \( ) / \ \ \ : ////// / ' ` --\\\\ : / / / / : : --\ \ \ \ : // / / / /` \ --\\ \ \\ : / / / / / / . . . \ \ \ \ \ \ We are everyday angels. :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Aug 2001 11:17:21 -0500 From: Minh Duong Subject: (NJC) RE: [EDA] Britney Spears making fun of Jewel? At this stage, I feel the Britney insults are just a rumor. Let's not condemn the girl (whatever her name is) due to simple rumblings. Even if it is true, what the hell can Britney say about Jewel that makes any difference? Britney doesn't write her own songs, can't really sing all that well, and frankly even as enhanced as she is, she still pales in comparison to Jewel.
