It was only AFTER Pieces of You was in the past that she actually admitted she didn't like the record, and this might be the same as far as Spirit is concerned. I'm not saying I think she hates Spirit, I'm just saying there is some evidence to suggest that she thought it was too poppy and over-produced... but I might be wrong. Hell, I don't hate spirit. I liked it when I first bought it, but my tastes in music have shifted since then... I still like Down so Long, Enter from the East, Barcelona, Do You (the best song on the record) and Absence of Fear.... overall, though.. i think a lot of it is cheesy. As far as Pieces of You is concerned, I think Jewel is right... to an extent. Pieces of You showed potential. Many people on this list hold up Pieces of You as one of the greatest albums ever made. It's a very interesting album with a lot of good ideas and it shows us that she has potential and talent.. but it's hardly a brilliant album. I don't listen to Pieces of You anymore than I listen to Spirit (which is hardly ever). The only Jewel I listen to is live recordings. the same probably goes for many of the members on this list. Hopefully that will change when the new record is released. > > > USA Today (24th November 1998) > > "While Jewel describes Spirit as a more personal album than Pieces of > You, and hopes it reflects creative and emotional growth, the new > material doesn't present a significant shift in style or attitude. And, I'll repeat, of course she wouldn't diss the album as it was being released. That would really make Atlantic Records unhappy. I was surfing the web, and I found a webpage saying that Til We Run Out Of The Road was going to be on the new CD. Then I went to Jeweljk.com, and there was nothing new. I continued surfing, and returned to jeweljk.com out of the blue. Now, they had uploaded it, and there was the track list of the CD and some notes. I remember that they said the CD was gonna be divided into blocks, like one hard pop, other bossa nova, other folk and so on, and that there were gonna be b-sides, c-sides and d-sides (?!?!). They also said that the CD was gonna be titled "Claven", and said that it was not the brazilian sandwich (I laughed, but there is no claven sandwich here is Brazil, as far as I'm concerned... - but in the dream there was). Then I looked the track list and I didn't recognized a song. I remember the first was "Vas", the second "R-14" and there was also a "R-15". Ah, they said also that the new CD was gonna feature a lot of special effects! I mean, how crazy was that?? Anyway, just thought I should share this with you... Fabio - the Brazilian angel with strange dreams... PS: Is there a meaning for "claven" ?? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 18:52:47 -0400 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] NJC: song on Friends > if any of you watched friends last night when ross called the radio > station and played a song for rachel, can someone please tell me what the > name of that song is and who sings it? thanks! Hey Shawney, That was "With or Without You" but U2 :) IMO - one of their better songs, I'm not really into their music too much, just not my thing, but I've always like this song :) ~<3~ Sandy - - lavender haunted you, so I could only laugh in yellow - jewel - ..... http://www.envy.nu/angeloflove ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 19:10:21 EDT From: Reecord2@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Britney Spears making fun of Jewel? And I am also not going to say how much I agree that you just love to start shit. This is exactly the kind of shit I am sure Jamie was talking about and look, you seemed to have started it. Hmmm what does that say, WHO WAS RIGHT?? NOT YOU. I feel really immature for even replying to this and letting you get to me cause I am sinking as low as you right now, but I just had to say it. Jamie did not say anything wrong but the truth, JUST LIKE YOU WANTED IT TO BE. SO, therefore no "shit" should be started over this. Now lets forget about this and MOVE on. I will start a thread... What all do those of you who went to Jewel's new concerts think about her new songs? I would love to get the chance to hear some and I will soon when they are posted on Planet Jewel, I can't wait!!! I did hear I won't walk away and I must say I LOVED IT TO DEATH!!! It was the GREATEST!!!! I Love it. Anyone agree?? So does Jewel get into these songs as much as she did to like Foolish Games?? Just a few q's. CHarlie The angel who wants to END the "shit" PS. EVERYONE please don't judge me by this post. Why do you think *most* artists, including bands who write their own music, are in it for? Just for golly good fun? Please, I don't see them complaining when their pockets get lined with cash. Having fame and fortune does not make her a sell out - now I'm not going to debate whether or not she *is* a sell out, because she's Britney Spears and I could care less - but that in itself does not make her a sell out. IMO - people always bitch because people don't write their own music, granted an artist who does write AND perform their own music is far more gifted, but why SHOULDN'T someone with a nice voice, who enjoys singing, but isn't a good songwriter, be able to sing someone else's music? Why should a songwriter who has amazing concepts and great lyrical ability, but a bad voice, not have his music made? Do you see what I'm saying? Why dis someone just because they don't have the ability to write their own music? They aren't gifted in that area, so who gives a F*%^? They are blessed with a beautiful voice, others are blessed with the ability to write. It's like a 'band' almost - while some bands do have a single person who controls most of the music, most bands work together - the bassist writes his own bass line, the guitarist comes up with a riff, the other one comes up with a solo, the drummer adds some cool rolls, and someone, or some people, write the lyrics to the music. Are you going to dis Flea because he didn't write the Chili Peppers lyrics? are you going to dis Thom Yorke because he didn't come up with the drum roll? A singer & songwriter are a team who come up with the music, your voice is an instrument, and what you do with it at times is as important as the background music or the lyrics. ~<3~ Sandy - - lavender haunted you, so I could only laugh in yellow - jewel - ..... http://www.envy.nu/angeloflove ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #372 ***************************
