There is very little Jewel has done that I don't like. As a whole album, I like Spirit better...it has a more diverse sound, but some of the songs on POY have so much more emotion. One of my favorite Jewel songs is Life Uncommon, just because it's got sort of that 60's protest song feel to it. If I ever get to the point where I have any kind of pull, I'd love to duet that song with Jewel one day. I think "Do You" is great and "Down So Long" ...my girlfriend cries everytime she hears "Barcelona" ....so, no you are not alone....and as far as I know, there are a few other million or so people out there that think it's a great album too or else it wouldn't have the sales figures it does. As for the FCS track list, I'm more curious about something else on it. How far did it actually get production wise ?? Was in actually totally done, mastering, packaging, etc. ? Or was it just some recorded tracks and a concept ? From all we've been told in the past, it appears it only got as far as "recorded tracks and a concept". I seriously doubt there was ever any mastering done on much if any of the material she laid down in Bearsville that summer. Right after the recording sessions were over, Jewel was pretty much either touring or recording videos for the next 18 months. I've posted this before...I feel the three JewelStock tapes IS a pretty close live version of Fritz Creek Store. There are 22 different songs listed up there that Jewel laid down at those sessions, and the ones with single *'s are on the three JewelStock tapes as part of the tracks from the two JewelStock shows (and some of them appear twice on the tape set). Songs with TWO *'s (Carnivore & Sattelite) are on the JewelStock tape set from a live show Jewel did in Woodstock two days before JewelStock. So, in all, the JewelStock Tapes have 14 high quality recordings of the 22 different songs she recorded at the Bearsvill/Fritz Creek Store sessions. Also, for the record, Tough Girl, Fragile Heart and Fading Away would be on the 4th Jewelstock tape, should we ever be able to distribute it. Carnivore and Sattelite would be too. Those are the five songs she performed with the band each night of JewelStock. Fritz Creek Store would certainly have had 14 or 15 tracks on it. (maybe as low as 13, but I doubt it). So, as I said before, JewelStock has nearly two-thirds of the Fritz Creek Store sessions material on it in live versions. In a somewhat strong sense, in my opinion, the JewelStock tapes IS Fritz Creek Store (at least a high quality live version). Mike :-) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 11:49:08 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] the Fritz Creek Store "appearance" at Bearsville 97 Considering the long abandoned Jewel album that was to be entitled Fritz Creek Store has been "in the news" on this list of late...it reminded me of the time about 40 of the then list members actually heard some of the actual tracks from the Bearsville/FCS sessions and didn't even pay any attention to them. A scant few of us tried to listen closely, but for the most part no one seemed to care. (Maybe it was because at the time it was still thought FCS would be released). What happened is is that at our first (now annual) EDA gathering called Bearsville 97, MrBB brought along a 90 minute cassette tape of material directly dubbed from some of the Bearsville/FCS sessions, although the tracked were dubbed in mono on the tape. He played it on someone's boombox that night before/during the campfire and hardly anyone was trying to listen. (I was trying for some of it...I was very curious to hear a studio version of Carnivore (if it were on that tape), but everyone was chatting so much I could not really hear the tape at all). What's my point in all of this? I dunno. As I said before, maybe no one was listening because we figured we'd have the album soon. Or maybe (and THIS, I feel is the real reason), no one was listening because at these now annual Bearsville EDA events Jewel is not the reason we are there. The topic of her hardly comes up (unless Jewel is doing something at the moment, like touring or recording etc). Her music is almost NEVER played there (Erica/Puddini is pretty much the EDA DJ at hese events). The reason we are there is to just meet up and have a campout weekend, get re-acquainted with the oldtimers/veterans, get acquainted with the new EDAs that show up and see what the Catskill mountains tourism area can offer us . There's been a few Bearsville events where you would not even know Jewel existed. I was just at Nashville, as just as much as I loved and enoyed being able to see Jewel again in such a small venue and hearing her voice, what was just was wonderful was seeing my EDA buddies again, and meeting new ones... I mean I really think thats atleast what half of this list is about.. the connection between all of us,(outside of Jewel) and it's nice that Jewel is behind it all (or however you want to look at it)... I don't know, my interest in Jewel has faded in and out over the past couple of years, but I mean heck through those dry spells of Jewel I have still talked to some people I met on the EDA list 4-5 years ago... and the support and kind words I have received from some of you during my challenging times is an overwhelming blessing, and I don't think I would have got it from any other kind of email list... So anyway, my point.. let's keep looking inward towards eachother instead of outward towards the materialistic side... As a 4th year music business major I think I can shead a lil light on this. A lot of the time a record company will have full albums, that just sit there, and for whatever reason they, or the artist, decide not to put it out. Now, it is great of Atlantic to honor Jewel's wishes, I'm reminded of Leean Rimes who's last Album ( I need you) was put out without her consent, and against her wishes, she felt it wasn't ready to put her name on and show the world where she was at musically. Jewel may have felt the same way, her contract will give specific #'s of full albums (determind the amount of time will be in the contract) that she hasto provide Altantic, usually a contract is for 5, this new album would make 4, assuming that "Joy" was counted in that #. She delivered the album, and ultimatly Altantic has the legal right to put it out if they want to, even Jewel can't force them to do it, but if she doesn't want it out and keeps providing them with other albums, then who are they to care really. I'm sure it will see the light of day sometime, HOPEFULLY SOON!!!!! :) Bye bye ~Kris~ ===== Send a message to my Cell : fijifruits@voicestream.net AIM Name: dadiivaa "Innocence can't be lost, it just needs to be maintained" ~Jewel~ ~Visit The Diva Palace. http://www.geocities.com/fijifruits Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Sonicnet.com: Aaliyah Killed In Plane Crash Singer was returning to United States after shooting video in Bahamas. Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash Saturday in the Bahamas, authorities said. The 22-year-old singer and actress, born Aaliyah Haughton, was one of eight people who died when the twin-engine plane they were traveling in crashed seconds after taking off from the Bahamas, according to Grand Bahama police superintendent Basil Rahming. Aaliyah was in the Bahamas shooting a video, Minister of Tourism Tommy Turnquest told the Associated Press. She died instantly when the plane, a Cessna 402B, exploded on impact just 200 feet beyond the end of a runway at Marsh Harbour International Airport on Abaco Island at 6:45 p.m., Rahming said. The craft, which was bound for Opa-Locka Airport, just northwest of Miami, apparently suffered engine failure upon liftoff, he said. Others killed in the accident included Aaliyah makeup artist Eric Foreman, 29, and Virgin Records representative Douglas Kratz, 28, according to Rahming. Two other women and three other men, including the pilot, died in the crash, while one man was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami with serious injuries, Rahming said. Aaliyah "was like one of my daughters, she was one of the sweetest girls in the world," producer Quincy Jones told the AP. "I loved her and respected her and I am absolutely devastated." "We find it devastating and most unfortunate that after having this world-famous star Aaliyah and her crew select the Bahamas as their choice location for her latest video, the project has climaxed on such a tragic note," tourism minister Turnquest told the news service. In July, Aaliyah released her self-titled third album, which found her moving away from club beats toward more introspective, midtempo numbers (see "Aaliyah Makes Love And War On New Album"). The album features the single "We Need a Resolution," one of three songs she recorded with producer and frequent collaborator Timbaland. The singer, who co-starred with martial artist Jet Li in the 2000 action flick "Romeo Must Die," plays the title role in the film adaptation of the Anne Rice novel "Queen of the Damned" and was cast in "The Matrix 2," both due in 2002 (see "Aaliyah Finishes New Album During Break From Movies"). She released her first album, Age Ain't Nothing But Number, in 1994. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Civil Aviation Department of the Bahamas will jointly investigate the crash, Rahming said. scott.evans [[mind is DISCONNECTED. but my heart is WIRED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 .
