I'm glad you brought it up. It's something that's always bothered me too. I remember reading that Jewel wrote on the reel to reel cans. "Don't Open Until Christmas 2021". I cringe to think that we would have to wait 25 years to hear this stuff. I fell in love with her music from the POY era. If Spirit had been Jewel's first album, i wouldn't have given her the time of day. I've listen to Spirit once and will never play it again. Even though I saw Jewel in 97 and 99. The Chicago 97 show will always be a special show. Where as the Hartford 99 show has been forgotten. I long for the POY shows again. But Jewel has grown up and changed. Jewel and her producer only know what she's doing right now. I hope she gets it right this time. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 19:47:25 -0400 From: Michael Schlosser Subject: [EDA] Sean on Fritz Creek EDAs, I've been a fan of Jewel's for a long while, lately more of a Steve Poltz fan, but I'd still jump at any chance to see Jewel live in my area. He always raises interesting points which I have to respect. I enjoy Jewel's song writing more then I can say, more often then not I think she is writing about me, even tho we have never met. I cannot tell you how disheartened I was when it came out that Jewel didn't plan on releasing fritz creek store, The initial track list sure sounded impressive to me. My wife jokes that I was quite the chore to live with for close to two months after that news broke. Which I'll admit was probably true. While I would love a release of fritz creek store on any level, If that is just seen as 'not happening' by Jewel and her 'people' Then I would respectfully ask that someone who has heard the Fritz Creek tracks, please post to the list and just describe it for all us 'vet' fans. It would be appreciated. Fritz Creek Tracks could always be posted on Jewel's website as streaming Quicktime or (shudder) realplayer. Something to keep in mind. But if I can't have the disc. Isn't 'Triple Delight' Fritzcreek's equivilant of DMB's 'Lillywhite sessions'? (Okay, so I realize it's meant to be 'Double D Delight' but that title pisses me off.) I bought that shortly after Fritzcreek was recorded, and a few of the tracks seem studio recorded, and I'd assume several of the new live ones could have been intended for the album as well. Like the four or so live POY tracks. I could be totally wrong on this one, but it cost me like $35 back before I learned the EDA list exixted, and Angelfood was cool here. Obviously not the complete recordings of the Fritzcreek ablum, but does anyone know if they might have been some of the songs? Charles. Subject: [EDA] I agree with Sean Well of course there are people on this list that have things like Fritz Creek Store and the JS tape 4. I think we all know who "these people" are. But like Sean said, they won't part with these things for any amount of money. Ok, I'm sure they would, but it would take a massive amount of money, since everything and everyone has their price. I agree that both should have been released long ago, either officially or unofficially. And yes, that excuse of the tape 4 from JS being used in a later official release has long worn out it's "invite". They just didn't want us to hear it. That's all there is to it. For if they wanted us to, or anyone to, we and everyone would have by now. There's really not much to debate on. Jewel and/or her people just decided they didn't want anyone to hear those recordings...except people directly or very closely associated with her. Remember that song from the Clueless movie, that didn't appear on the movie soundtrack? It was called "All By Myself". Well, someone has this too...an official recording. I won't mention any names, but we all know him. And of course, we'll never see that either. Big surprise? Nah. Nothing about any of this surprises me. If you really think about it, this list is alot like society. People of power like to use that power for their own benefit, pleasure, etc., and would never let the word "share" enter into the equation. Therefore, I choose not to associate with people like that for there are far more better things to do in our lives, and far better people to associate with. So really no one should be the least bit surprised by the unrelease of these recordings. I doubt they ever will be made available to anyone who doesn't work for Jewel. I second Sean. Derrick PS...I dare not mention the "b_otl_g" word...and am surprised so many of you have...remember, we aren't supposed to say that word on the list! That was NEVER the case. It was held back because at the time Jewel wat becomming hotter than a pistol and bootleg CDs were popping up left and right. They knew stuff with Jewel and the band would be treasured items for a bootlegger and that's why it was held back. The 4th tape WAS to be released after Fritz Creek Store was released, as it was a sure thing Carnivore, Sattelite and likely Fading Away were going to be on the CD and there's no way they could let out a high quality recording of those FREE before the CD came out. Since the CD was never released and none of those songs were released yet on a CD, that pretty much squashed any chance of JewelStock tape #4 coming out any time soon. Although I do have to admit knowing how Atlantic Records was not pleased at all with us even getting tapes 1 thru 3, I myself doubt that the material that was to be JewelStock tape #4 will ever be given out freely. (I also doubt they would put it on any release at all, as they have had much better live recordings of those songs since then) >They just didn't want us to hear >it. That's all there is to it. Honest, his winning was based on his story, and had nothing to do with him being a fellow Texan.. ;-) Alas, the choice was hard to make, and so also Gina is also a winner, (anyone that incites a riot at a jewel concert has to be cool!) and so I will have to come up with something to ship her as well. Here is the winning tale, and I'll post the other story in a seperate email.... Want to know what the winner is really getting, check out www.lunataylor.com for mp3s... I don't know if this little tale would be wild or messed up, but it's all true (sadly). Anyway, it starts off with the whole invite to the Nashville show (Nashbash). Just so you know, I'm located in Dallas, Texas and Nashville is a 12 hour drive from here. There was no way I could afford airline tickets and no way I could cover has, but I said, "damn it, I haven't seen Jewel in forever, I'm gonna find a way to get there." I responded to the invite and, without my knowledge, so did my girlfriend, who is also an EDA (more of a lurker than me though). So now was the task of deciding whether or not to sell all my belongings or what to get there. Well Erica from Nashville posts on the list stating if anyone has any questions. Now an idea pops in my head (did I mention this was a long story), I work for a company that sells personal defense items (knives, stun guns, pepper spray, martial arts stuff, all that...the site is at www.newworldwarehouse.com if you want to check it out) and we frequently do flea markets. We've also been considering doing ones out of town to try and expand our area. I wrote Erica to see if there were any flea markets going on that weekend. Erica writes back, "You're in luck..." and tells me that one of the biggest flea markets in the region is going on that weekend. Great !!! Now I can get the company to pay for me to go there and spend the weekend before seeing Jewel on that Monday. I tell my boss about it, and while being a little hesitant to let me go all the way to Nashville, he decides to go ahead. The company (it's a small company...three people including me) was looking for an RV at that time and we found one the DAY before we had to leave (Thursday). The thing was, it was used and the dealership JUST got it in hours before we bought it (but we did get a great deal... 37 foot RV, 1989 model, $10,500 !!!) so it was kind of an unknown. But me and the other guy decided we'd brave it and take the RV on it's first official road trip. So me, the other employee - Andy (drummer to my band www.coilback.com), my friend Minh and my girlfriend Grace all decided to head out. We left Friday morning at around 6 a.m. with the hopes to arrive that evening to rest and set up for the flea market on saturday. About an hour into the journey, the right front tire blows out. We are stuck there and have to call a roadside tire repair service. They take an hour to get there and an hour to fix it. I looked at the other tires on the RV and they didn't look too hot either. So, I call my boss and he calls around and finds a tire place in Texarkana that has the right sized tires. We get to Texarkana right as a big thuderstorm hits (I love Texas thunderstorms) and get stuck waiting there while they replace all SIX tires (with a bill of $1,800) on the RV...which takes about another 1 and a half or so. So then we push on to Nashville. The storm lasted through just about all of Arkansas AND we found that some of the windows had leaks. Luckily, we had some sealant and, while I drove, everyone was scurrying around the RV sealing up leaks like we were in a submarine about to sink. Well, we get to Nashville at around 4-5 a.m. on Saturday (waaay behind schedule...due to the stops and the fact that thing don't take hills for crap). We go to the RV park located at the flea market, but can't find anyone to pay for the spot. We decide to just park in a spot, hook up and wait for someone to show up. As we try to hook up, we find that the plugs they TOLD us would fit our rig, needed an adapter. So, my friend Minh, who had taken a cab at this point to rent a regular sized truck so we could get around, comes back and takes me (with 24 hours so far without any sleep) to Wal-Mart to get a plug adapter. We find the LAST one on the shelf and go back and hook up. I crash out, while the others go set up the booth. We do the market, which bombed due to all the thunderstorms that weekend, but happy we get to see Jewel on Monday. Monday comes and we head over in the rental truck to the club. It looks rather quiet and my girlfriend walks in to find out what is going on and finds out that Jewel was sick and cancelled. Needless to say, I was crushed. So, feeling down, we drove back and got everything set up for the long journey home. We leave around 6 p.m. on Monday. When we get to around West Memphis I was pretty dead and ready to change driving shifts so I could sleep a bit. I managed to make it to Little Rock and pull over to change drivers. As I go to the back I realize the bedroom A/C in the rig isn't working. We try everything but it just makes a weird humming sound. I climb on top, totally exhausted and open up the A/C to find a copper tube piece got stuck in the fan. I removed it and got the A/C working. When I came down, Andy tells me the RV is overheating. I look at the front and water is leaking everywhere. We stop it for awhile, find out that the switch for the water pump had gone out, fix the switch and get ready to drive to a gas station so we can fill the water back up. As I try to get on to the road I notice that the headlights aren't on. It's about 1 or 2 a.m. at this point, so I pull over on the side of the road and the RV overheats again. I still have not slept and can barely stay up from exhaustion. We check everything and don't know what to do about the overheating or the headlights. Two of the guys work on taking water from the sink and putting it in the radiator while I try to work on the headlights. No progress in either thing. After a few hours, day starts to break and my eyes can barely take it. I collapse on the couch and they ended up calling the guy at the dealership. He said we needed to get air out of the line. After that, it worked fine and took the water without a problem. The headlights still didn't work, but it didn't matter since it was daylight out. I slept for about 3-4 hours and switched driving shifts with the guy (he's a wuss) and got us home. Talk about depressing. I get home and find that she has rescheduled for the following Sunday. Well, if it wasn't for the fact I totally love Jewel to death, I would have said, ENOUGH. But, I went this far, so we rented a car, took a little money out of our paychecks we probably shouldn't have and drove up to Nashville AGAIN from Dallas the following weekend. I'm glad to say we got to see Jewel and she even joked at the show about it. She asked who came from the furthest drive wise and Dennis had already asked everybody and determined that we did the most driving of the group (I got an Angelfood tape from him for the effort), she said, "that's the great thing about being a pop star. You can just do things like that. It was actually all a joke, I just said, wait till they get here and tell them I cancelled." It was nice to know that at least the effort was recognized in some form. Anyway, I'm glad that I went, I would have kicked myself forever if I would have wussed out and not returned the following weekend. So that's the story. Maybe not wild, but definitely an adventure, and YES, it's all true, no exaggeration there. Hope the story entertained you at least a little.
