Are we going to be allowed to take cameras into the backstage lounge? I know we most likely won't be allowed to take them into the venue. But just wondering about back stage? There may be some photo opportunities that I might like to take advantage of. And earlier Mr. BB wrote that there is a parking lot behind the backstage thing are we allowed to park there and come in and out of there. Is there a backdoor that we will have access to? And where is it located, I mean how will we know that we have parked by the right door if there is one? Just some questions. OK maybe a lot of questions, but I am so excited this is going to be my first time seeing jewel in concert and meeting a lot of you EDAs. I have not yet been informed of the exact time that I'll be playing, but it will be earlier in the day. I'm super looking forward to meeting a lot of EDA's. In the meantime, if you'd like to visit my web-site, it's www.tiamod.com and you can get a taste of my music there as well. If I don't see you on Sunday, hopefully I will at the LRC series or Jewel's show. Thank you for your support. Peace, love, and friendship. Someone posted earlier asking about Summertime, and Jewel did such a good job on that one she would probably do a great version of Fever with her deep "bluesy" voice. Both of those songs bring back such great memories for me, it would really be great to hear Jewel sing them....it would be almost as good as my grandmother singing Summertime to me when I was little! Subject: [EDA] MB Comparisons For those who have Michelle Branch's CD, do you think track 9 "I'd Rather Be in Love" sounds alot like Down so Long? Especially the beginning. And Track 10 I think has the most Jewel-type of sound of them all...that's the one I could definitely hear Jewel singing, called "Goodbye to You." :-) Her CD is really good, I highly recommend getting it...and it's very catchy too! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Aug 2001 09:49:32 -0700 From: "Kevin Douglas" Subject: Re: [EDA] cameras at humpheys? Hello, I'd like to ease some possible confusion about the 'Backstage Lounge' thing at Humphrey's. The 'Backstage Lounge has nothing really to do with the venue that Jewel will be performing in and is not to be considered what is normally thought of as backstage. The 'Backstage Lounge' is the "name" of the bar inside the Humphrey's restaurant which means one must be 21 to be allowed inside. Hopefully this cleared some things up for those that might have been under the impression that they'll be heading backstage. I know that's not the exact figure, but it's somewhere around there.. I think it was Garth Brooks #1, Ice Cube #2, and Jewel #3.. But I remember asking (or someone else asking) about this after I saw the show, and someone suggested that since platinum figures are based on shipments (unlike gold, which is based on sales) that it did go platinum, since over 1 million were supposedly initially shipped.. I'm not sure though.. =) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. AMPLIFIED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! IM: sevans56 . scott@tanweb.com My scribble pad. Depends on one's definition of "platinum" in regards to the music industry. I cannot recall which entities' follow which method, but some (like the RIAA I believe) count 1,000,000 units *shipped* as platinum, while others define platinum as units *sold*. To add another gorilla-wrench to the mix, some only count US of A units, and others count the whole wide world. Me? Well I count the words of units shipped. So with say 900 sung words on an average CD, one only has to ship 1,112 units for platinum in my book. It's basically identical to the VH1 article with all the facts taken from JeweLink and Atlantic Records, but it's nice to see the exact sales figures for Spirit.. I didn't know.. =) Jewel Putting Finishing Touches On New Album Jewel has "completed the recording process" for her upcoming fourth album, tentatively titled "This Way" and scheduled for a Nov. 13 via Atlantic. The singer/songwriter is currently in the "final mixing stages" of the project, according to newsletter circulated to fans by her management company. A yet-to-be-determined single will precede the disc in October. Largely produced by Dann Huff (Megadeth, Faith Hill), "This Way" reportedly plays host to a number of musical styles, including hard pop, bossa nova, and blues rock. Although an Atlantic spokesperson could not confirm any titles, possible cuts include "Shadows Play" and "Serve the Ego," both co-written with songwriter Itaal Shur. "Jesus Loves You," recorded by Creed producer John Kurzweg and said to feature Vandals/A Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese, plus "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone," a Bob Dylan-inspired staple of Jewel's live shows, are also strong contenders to make the final cut. "This Way" is Jewel's first studio album since 1998's "Spirit," which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 3.53 million copies in the U.S. to date, according to SoundScan. It was followed by the 1999 Christmas set, "Joy: A Holiday Celebration," which mixed seasonal favorites with several original compositions. Jewel performs Sunday (Aug. 19) and Monday in San Diego. - -- John D. Luerssen, N.Y. scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. AMPLIFIED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! It's the timing of the guitar.. I don't have The Spirit Room yet unfortunately, but I have several of the MP3s.. I wish it was a touch less produced, but it's alright since I see her capabilities elsewhere.. The acoustic performances on GetMusic showed she is a truly skilled guitarist and showcased her beautiful lyrics.. And then I saw her up close live, and she and her band produce a much more rock-oriented, raw sound.. They kick major ass.. I'd recommend all of you try to catch her live sometime.. The tour dates are posted at www.michellebranch.net ..She's going to be touring with Lifehouse, then she's doing a small intimate tour with Jude, who is also a great musician.. And I think more solo dates will definitely be announced soon.. BTW - I'm gunning for the release of "All You Wanted" for the next single.. It's super-catchy and my favorite song by her right now.. I still love "Goodbye To You" but I'm trying to not listen to it too much.. The last thing I want to do is get burned out on Michelle Branch.. She's awesome.. So y'all check her out if you haven't done so yet.. http://www.michellebranch.net is the official site.. http://www.michellebranch.com is the label's site for her.. http://michellebranch.dot.nu is the best fan site for her right now.. all great sources of info on her.. also, of course, file trading services.. check out her mp3s and get a taste of her stuff.. "goodbye to you" "all you wanted" "paper pieces".. All really good stuff, the last one is from her first indie CD, it's her rock-est song.. Who can I compare it to? I have no idea.. Liz Phair's lighter stuff.. Hole's lighter stuff.. Stuff you'd hear on alternative radio.. It's a good track.. Okay, well check her out.. =) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME.
