I am so excited and I cannot wait. I will be going both days and I have a place to stay that night (Sunday and Monday) but if anyone would like to go in on a room that would be great too. On Monday night that is because it think we will all be too ampted and maybe to drunk to go to sleep that night. Well, I'm just extremely excited especially because it's only 2 weeks away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The EDA gathering was great, I finally got to meet some people I've been talking to (especially Kristie, who I've talked to for awhile) and I actually roped the cow (take that and like it...ha...I'm still a Texan Dennis !!!) Jewel put on a great show. It was very intimate and the new stuff is still very traditional Jewel. More like the Pieces of You sound than the Spirit stuff, but that may be because she wasn't working with a full band. The songs I can remember her doing were a few new ones I don't know the titles of (I think one was called "Long Slide Down" or something like that....my brain is too fried right now from the drive). The first one was kinda cool because a thunderstorm rolled in and there was some faint thunder happening while she was singing. I kinda hope she keeps that effect. Then here's a few of the others I remember her doing: Grey Matter, Little Sister, Break Me, Stephenville, Life Uncommon, YWMFM, WWSYS, Race Car Driver, Angel Standing By, and attempted Carnivore (with some help from some other EDAs) and some others I can't remember. She was very talkative and cute and got really excited when Ty unexpectedly showed up. Her voice was kinda going out at the end, but she endured and put on a great show. She posed with Ty for a picture after the show, but was in a hurry to go get some dinner (couldn't blame her, we were starving too), so there wasn't much mingling time afterwards. Either way, it was great and I look forward to hearing her new album and see her live again. I think she said the new album title is "This Way.". Anyway, thanks again to all the EDAs that hung out with us and to Jewel for the great show. I'm going to collapse now. Oh yeah, getting into the venue and the actual show, as well as the trek back. P-) Well, we finally get in, and as Rob and Tammy stated before, Jewel has noted tendency to be late. Poor thing, she has what is normal for those of her gender, that lateness gene. P-) So while we wait, several conversations are struck. A rather loud group seems to be centered around my area. Not sure why? Erica, as everyone knows, is the quietest of the bunch. P-) Between her, Jaime, and Katie, as well as myself, we definitely had a hoot. THough my feet did tend to get trod upon by many many people. I didn't mind in the least, especially with a few of the nice young ladies that were in attendance. Some of the men on the other hand.... P-) Picked up one of those TShirts that Rob and Tammy were talking about. Almost had to tear it out of Katie's hands after I had let her guard it while I was walkin about. P-) Well Jewel finally came in about 8pm CST. I was gettin a tad bit anxious, as I still had a drive to take. Performance was awesome, as usual. I must say, the smaller more intimate venues with Jewel performing acoustic without a band backing her up are much better than the larger venues. IMHO of course. P-) Sang about 6 songs from her new album, and some crowd favorites. Don't take my word on it, and i will not put these in the order they were sung, but here goes. Grey Matter Little Sister Race Car Driver(My fave!) WWSYS YWMFM Carnivore Angels Standing By (I think this is the title) and a few others, my memory isn't sa good as others. Now I will not state the songs that are off her new album, basically because I feel like it will be fun to wait and see when it comes out. P-) She was her normal Happy Happy Joy Joy self. P-) Stories poppin out left and right, and makin funny comments about different things that occured during the concert. When Ty showed up she didn't notice due to the spotlights shining into her face. So when he requested a song, an she sort of recognized his voice, she got all frazzled. It blew her away, you could almost say. But it was cute nevertheless. She was most definitely not expecting him to show up. =D I have a feeling that a young Ms. Kendall is right, when she said that this album will most likely be the best so far from Jewel. P-) Jewels performance was striking, and well done. And her bringing in the audience was wonderful, as usual.... Ok, now on to the rest of the story. The ending is rather anticlimactic. When the show ended, at 10 pm CST(11pm EST) I had to scoot. I still had a 6 hour drive to make, trying to get home before work starts at 6 am EST. I finally did it, and got back hom at 5:30 this morning, giving me enough time to change and make it into work. No sleep for the weary. P-) I think most everyone else stuck around and partied it up. kudos to those who did. P-) Wish I coulda stayed. Does anyone have a complete, accurate setlist from the show in Nashville? Ok, I'm sure someone does, I guess I should be asking could someone let the EDA's know what it was? And if you're under some obligation not to reveal the new song titles (as I'm beginning to suspect anyway), then just put "new song #1", etc... for each new song she did. All I've seen for far are older songs...something I thought she wasn't even going to do for this. Why put out things she's already put out? Unless they just want a live version, but she's done that before to, so I don't know. I just thought it would all be new songs. 2. Did anyone get anything signed by Jewel, or any pics at all, even from a distance of her? Haven't heard any mention of this either. All I've heard are things like she left quick, didn't have time to mingle, etc, etc. Not that I'm surprised at all, but just wondered if anyone somehow managed to sneak one or two quick pics in, or maybe a possible autograph. 3. How long was the whole show? I'm guessing maybe an hour, hour and a half? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Aug 2001 17:28:19 From: "Rowdy White" Subject: Re: [EDA] What happened in TN? But more importantly, Who went to the gathering? Where did ya'll go, what did ya'll do? How many strangers did Harris scare/embarrass/talk into roping a plywood cow? This had the makings of an epic EDA adventure, so surely EDAs hung out after the show (or are still hanging out, right now) Was there a Denny's involved? That is what we really want to hear about... Sure, mention something about the concert, but let's hear about the adventure! So, are we mice, or are we men?! (Oops, sorry got a little carried away....) ahem... It was well worth the 6 hour drive to get there. Now I didn't make a list of every song that she played, (I am sure Dennis or someone did something like that though) so I cant give you all the details yet. She did play a lot of new stuff that is VERY good, lots of new songs that we hadn't heard before. She also seemed very comfortable becuase she took lots of requests from us, but she has forgotten alot of her songs :-( like 'Last Dance Rodeo' which I really wanted to hear and 'Absence of Fear'. But that is ok she still played a lot of great songs. The concert in general did start quite late. Most all of us were there by 5:30 and they made us stand in the heat outside till 6:15 or so then the concert started just shy of 8:00pm. My girlfriend being the high tempered person that she is almost walked out cause she was so tired of waiting, but then again lots of people were getting a little frustrated. But my girlfriend did stay and she was VERY glad she did. It was extreamely cute to have Ty Murray arrive about half way through the concert and suprise Jewel, she is quite adorable when she is embarrased. Jewel had lots of great stories for us and lots of information to share with us about her new album which is totally complete now. She did the photo-shoot for it 2 days ago. But on another note, I was also quite excited to meet alot of you EDA's that I have heard chatting on this list for a long time. Everyone knows me as the T-Shirt angel because of my work on the 99 EDA shirt. Lots of people recognized me and were very friendly to me because of that, it was nice. And I know alot of you friendly people were worried about me driving all the way home at 10:30 last night, well we ended up staying in a hotel and getting up in the morning to complete the drive, I guess we stayed in Kentucky somewhere, I was really too tired to remeber, lol. What I want to know is did Jewel come out and sign autographs? I really wanted to stay but just couldn't :( And fianlly on a personal note, Cara (I hope I spelled it right) thank you for your kindness, I hope to here from you soon. I got the idea, being as she'd already recorded studio versions of some new songs, that she wasn't using the whole concert on the CD anyways....she might not even be happy with any of the cuts of the new songs at the concert once she hears them.....if I was there, I would have been glad that she sang some older songs and not just all completely brand new, as exciting as it is to hear new stuff. ~<3~ Sandy - - lavender haunted you, so I could only laugh in yellow - jewel - ..... http://www.envy.nu/angeloflove ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Aug 2001 15:25:43 EDT From: EastAngelEDA@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NashBash ReHash Oh wow, what an AWESOME show! It was very intimate, and Chrissy Pfingst and I sat in the second row on stage right, and so we were right there. And yes, I am the Angel who gave her the guitar pick! And thanks to Dennis :~) I now have a sorta autographed pick guard for my guitar! I say sorta b/c the pen didn't quite show up, so it is more like she engraved it (not once but twice!). And I got my Woody pin signed, and a photo of her from way back in the day, and my brand new EDA shirt, also courtesy of Dennis. Dennis, you are a totally radical dude, ya know that? Anyhow, I will try and list the songs I remember, in no particular order: Unsung in Your Eyes Long Slide Down Sometimes it be That Way WWSYS YWMFM Angel Standing By Cowboy Waltz Break Me Life Uncommon (my request!) And I know there were a TON more since I think the concert was nigh on 3 hours almost. All I can say is WOW. Thanks Jewel, that meant a lot to me to be a part of!
