Subject: RE: [EDA] a potential "Jewel" song It's quite surprising you say this, because there is one track, I think it's called "Crush", that I've thought sounds ALOT like something Natalie would sing...ever since the first time I heard it. Reminds me of "Torn" a little bit. I have Natalie's CD and when I heard that song by Mandy I kept wondering who the heck it sounded like, then it hit me....lol. So it's cool you've heard this, it's exactly what I was already thinking. :-) I never thought she was much at all like Britney anyway...even the first CD. But this one is quite different. Alot more variety. In My Pocket is by far the most "pop" sounding I think. There are one or two others that could be singles like that, but for the most part it's quite a contrast from her first CD. There's one song that has more of a rock groove in it...I really like it alot. Called "Split Chick". lol I think you'd be pleasantly surprised giving the rest of the tracks a listen. - -------------------------------------------------------------------- I liked the first single and the rest is supposedly more Natalie Imbruglia than Britney Spears.. Who knows? If the second single is as good as "In My Pocket," I might give the rest of the tracks a listen.. :-) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. AMPLIFIED.]] AOL IM: sevans112 . Yahoo! Subject: [EDA] NJC: Mandy, "Crush" Ok this is getting too weird....lol. Speaking of that Natalie sounding song I mentioned in my last post, looks like that's Mandy's next single. ;-) This is news to me...I don't really keep up with the whole singles thing...I just listen to stuff and if I like it, I listen to it more. I hardly play the radio anymore. That's cool though if Crush was released as her new single. So go get the CD Scott. :-) - -----Original Message----- From: LuckyStarr42@aol.com To: jewel@smoe.org Sent: 7/23/01 11:27 PM Subject: Re: [EDA] a potential "Jewel" song The new single is "Crush" and it's pretty good. The subject is kinda poppy but it has a cool sound to it. I saw the premier of the video on TRL today and it's really cool. Not at all like anything else out right now. I think Mandy Moore is trying really hard to shed Britney wanna-be image that she used to have. ashley staggers the sweet angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 00:54:35 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." THat does sound like something Jewel would sing. Alanis Morsette sings a song called "Perfect" on her album "Jagged Little Pill" and that is a song that I have ALWAYS thought sounds like something Jewel would sing and I can imagine her singing it. It is SUCH agood song too. You should download it and let me know what ya think! Thanks for telling me bout that song by Mandy, by the way, it is a really good song. Charlie From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." To: "'jewel@smoe.org'" Subject: [EDA] a potential "Jewel" song Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 23:05:52 -0500 This may get mixed reactions, but for the sake of the list's sanity, let's keep an open mind. Mandy Moore has a new CD out, and track #13 sounds like something Jewel would, or could sing. I've even imagined how she would sound singing it. If you have no clue what I'm talking about, then try checking it out online or somewhere if you can get an MP3 of the song. It's not a bad song at all...kind of a slower song. Something along the tempo of Break Me. I know when most people think Mandy Moore, visions of "Candy" come flashing in their minds...lol, but this is nothing like that. When she hits some of the higher notes, it's almost eerie how much she sounds like a younger Jewel. I imagine Jewel in '94 or '95. Anyway, something to check out. :-) Oh yeah, the song is titled "When I Talk to You" _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 00:12:30 -0700 From: mjawt@juno.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Nashville: Hotels and possible pre-show gathering plans. I'll be honest, I don't even know what it means (what the hey, it probably isn't an SAT vocabulary word... why learn it?). Anyway, I like Mandy Moore and I think she does have potential now that she's swaying a bit away from the dumb blonde pop princess section of the music world. I downloaded "Saturate Me," and it is HOT.. This song is very nice, very Arabic/ethnic sounding.. The song is comparing her heart and soul to a desert, thus the "saturate me" analogy.. You know, saturate me with your love.. It's a very, very good song.. This will be on repeat.. I love the whole Middle-Eastern feel, but then you throw in the drums in the middle (what are those types of drums called? Not regular drums, very rhythmic), and forget about it.. It's hot.. This song is amazing.. And Derrick, I listened to "When I Talk To You," and yes I can kind of see the Jewel similarities, even though it's more similar to other pop-rock artists that I can't place my finger on..
