Subject: [EDA] reality check This hasn't been mentioned prevoiously but since I haven't seen anything to the contrary, I thought I would mention it so there won't be some people heart broken. From what I've gathered, there isn't any guarantee you will be invited to the private Jewel concert just because you stated you could go. There are 100 "slots". So think about it...if 300 EDA's sign up, 200 are going to be let down. I have no idea how they're going to choose the 100, whether it's first come basis, or however. I think that approach would be hard to trace though. But regardless of the method, just keep this in mind. I know alot of people are anxiously awaiting a confirmation letter, but don't think you are going to get one for sure just because you said you "could" go. I don't mean to dampen anyone's spirits, but rather am trying to save the whole list from 100's of flame letters, etc, etc. when however many over the 100 there is, find out they won't be able to go. Of course if the number is under 100, then everyone will be happy, but I suspect there are more than that who will have signed up by then. IF something has been stated where you are guaranteed a slot after signing up, then I haven't seen it. But if this is the case, then disregard my e-mail. But I think since the quantity IS limited to 100, this statement has been intentionally omitted. I keep seeing things like "if" you are chosen, "if" you are selected, etc. I would also urge everyone to hold off on any reservations, be it plane or hotel until you KNOW you are confirmed. Just looking a bit ahead. I know sometimes excitement can make us jump the gun a bit, only to get let down in the end. So think about it all realistically if possible. Then come Wednesday (approx.), 100 EDA's will know for sure they are going. :-) But, there may be quite a few who also are given the bad news, or, maybe no news at all. In which case I hope the list doesn't get another 300 letters asking why they didn't a confirmation e-mail. I would think if you haven't gotten something by Friday, then you aren't going. So don't send tons of letters asking everyone why you haven't gotten a letter yet, people who will know very little anyway, most likely. Myself included. Just trying to look ahead a bit a save the list alot of grief. This is one of my favorite released songs from the Rugburns, and I was a little bit frightened to hear Jewel sing it! I pressed the link expecting to start laughing at how ridiculous it sounded, but it actually was not all that bad! I'm quite surprised at how very good it was :) Anyway, sorry about the rambling. Hi yall (Hehe.), My name's Erica. I've been on the list for almost 5 years (I JUST missed Jewelstock) as, some of you might remember, "The Great Puddini". I've been a regular attendee at most of the Northeast gatherings (I've been to all 4 Bearsville gatherings), I used to be a regular poster, and I've been roped and used as a yo-yo by Dennis Harris. I've been attending school in Nashville for the last 3 years and I'm very excited about Jewel's show next Monday. I hope to see many of you there. Now I'd like to share with you two important things: Lodging and a pre-show gathering. Lodging: I attend Belmont University and my school has a webpage devoted to some information about hotels around the local area. This page can be found here: http://www.belmont.edu/visitors/hotels.cfm I'd also like to mention that my university has some rooms available for rent for the very inexpensive price of $28.31. However, there is VERY limited space. We have 9 Guest Rooms + Alumni Suite. In fact, I work there, but I've been in CT visiting my friends and family (and attending Bearsville 2001), so I don't exactly know the status of the rooms. You can call or email the Gabhart Student Center (Say "Hi" to Jacyln, Kevin, and Francis for me!). Here's the info on that: Office Hours: Monday - Friday 8 AM - 11PM Saturday 10 AM - 11PM Sunday 2 PM - 10PM Phone: 615/460-6786 Fax: 615/460-5538 E-mail: johnsonf@mail.belmont.edu I've also been websurfing for information on hotels (which I don't know why because *I* live here) and have found these great links: http://nashville.hotel-directory.com http://www.all-nashville-hotels.com/ And if you are planning on staying in town for a couple days, here's a link that tells what's going on around town: www.nashville.citysearch.com (Might I add that August 1st, Joan Osborne is playing in town for FREE. I'll be there too.) Pre-show gathering: I've been thinking about a possible pre-show gathering that can possibly take place in the afternoon before the concert. I encourage EDAs who don't get invited to the private concert to attend this gathering also. I certainly will if that unfortunate occurrence should happen. Unfortunately, I only live in a VERY tiny campus apartment so having 100 EDAs and their guests is not happening (Not even our beloved EDA Mommy, Tammy could pull that off). I could use some input from some fellow Nashville EDAs on this, but I was thinking of a possible picnic at Centennial Park. It's on West End, conveniently near downtown (where most of the hotels are and possibly where the concert will take place [I'm hoping for a Ryman Auditorium]. I could really use some suggestions and definitely a couple local people to help me pull this off, if they could please. I'll even give you a box of pudding for your trouble (Hey, I'm a college student!). Please email me at VCavallo@aol.com, if you are interested or if you have any questions about the Nashville area (I know it quite well). Once again, those lucky enough to get here and/or attend, I can't wait to meet you. Wow...it's been a while month in Jewel's Life, and about 3 wild months in mine, I haven't posted in so long... busy with school and taking care of my grandmother who is ill... But after all the fuzz over Jewel concerts, I thought I should post... I feel kinda...upset...-for lack of words- because it seems that only Jewel pay attention to North America fans... in 6 years I've been a fan of her, she never came to Latin America to perform. She just came a couple of times, with the Clearwater Project, and tho I think it's an excellent project, she should focus that there's not only EDA's in the states, but all around the world. So the question I feel frustrated about is... if she can invite 100 Eda's to a private concert in NV, why can't she invite 100 more, in Latin America ? She has the money, and tho she is in recording right now - -a cd I can't hardly wait-, I just think we are being pushed aside. That said, I hold no grudges, she must have her excuse for this, but still my simple hope is to be able to see her one day, just at one concert, and I will be happy for the rest of my life, I'm not asking a million concerts, with one, I will feel complete. It might be a gift - -like the nashville one- or paid, I will go gladly to any concert of her, no matter what the cost may be. And yes, she doesn't have a million fans in Latin America, but hell, I'm sure she will sold out a venue in Mexico, Argentina, it doesn't have to be my country -Venezuela- but anywhere in Latin America. For those lucky ones in the states, that where invited to the upcomming concert, my congratulations, you guys should feel lucky, cause you are. I hope you have a good time there, cause I'm sure it's going to be a hell of a concert. An in case any of you talks to her, even for a minute, PLEASE, tell her to come to Latin America, and bless us all with her voice and heart that has captivated me for so long... Thanks, Antonio Miquilena. Subject: [EDA] a potential "Jewel" song This may get mixed reactions, but for the sake of the list's sanity, let's keep an open mind. Mandy Moore has a new CD out, and track #13 sounds like something Jewel would, or could sing. I've even imagined how she would sound singing it. If you have no clue what I'm talking about, then try checking it out online or somewhere if you can get an MP3 of the song. It's not a bad song at all...kind of a slower song. Something along the tempo of Break Me. I know when most people think Mandy Moore, visions of "Candy" come flashing in their minds...lol, but this is nothing like that. When she hits some of the higher notes, it's almost eerie how much she sounds like a younger Jewel. I imagine Jewel in '94 or '95. Anyway, something to check out. :-) Oh yeah, the song is titled "When I Talk to You" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 00:18:16 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: Re: [EDA] a potential "Jewel" song Actually, I heard that the new Mandy Moore CD is supposed to be one of the albums paving a new high road for pop music..
