Subject: FW: [EDA] Michelle Branch I second (or third) this recommendation. :-) I had heard of this artist before but didn't pursue it much. She's quite talented and the video quality on that site is excellent. Just like watching TV. Maybe this will be the next "Jewel". I've been wondering who would replace her. Looks like we may have found that person. She is a few years younger than Jewel was to start out, but I don't think that'll matter much. I guess time will tell. Of course her look is nothing like Jewel's so the similarities are limited. > ---------- > From: EmMe102284@aol.com[SMTP:EmMe102284@aol.com] > Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2001 11:59 AM > To: jewel@smoe.org > Subject: Re: [EDA] Michelle Branch > > In a message dated 7/12/2001 1:39:16 AM AUS Eastern Standard Time, > scott@tanweb.com writes: > > << Check this girl out.. > > http://www.getmusic.com/artists/featured/MichelleBranchInterview482940.htm > l > Watch the second to last video...a song called "Goodbye To You"... first, > and then check out the other two performances.. A radio station down here puts it on along with NBC or something. Anyway, they always have 2-3 big acts (this year they are BareNaked Ladies, Vertical Horizon, Nelly Furtado, Evan and Jaron) that perform on the main stage at Walnut Creek, but they also have up and coming performers on the smaller stage. It is an all day event and one act goes on as soon as the other goes off. The smaller stage performers are Sarah Harmer, Trickside, Weekend Excursion, Michelle Branch, Dexter Freebish, Five For Fighting, Wil Seabrook, Runaway Cab, and Revelation Darling). Anyway, you guys were mentioning Michelle Branch, so I thought i'd let you all know about this concert. It is always a lot of fun and you can meet most of the people , and get pictures and autographs. Last year I met Train, Rufus Wainwright and a few others. It is about $15-$20 for a ticket. Anyone around the Triad should check it out. Katie : ) - ---------------- In dreams and in love there are no impossibilities. A B-Side is the song(s) you get at tracks 2, 3 etc.. they are the songs that are not the main single. eg. Emily is a B-Side of Jupiter. An LP is an album (Long Play) and an EP is like a mini album (Extended Play, i think!) Anyway, i'm not sure about the rules in the USA/Canada, Rest of the World, but here in England a single used to have to be no more than 4 tracks and no more than 15 minutes total length. It is now no more than 3 tracks and i think 12 minutes in length. so if you want to release a CD with 6 tracks it can't be an album because it's too small. It can't be a single because it's too big. But it CAN be an EP! so an EP is like an in between of a single and album thats why it is USUALLY (no the case with BandB!!!) priced midway between a single and an album. Hope this clarifies things! PS B-side came from LP's (vinyl) and Tapes pre-CD era, when the non single track(s) would be on the other side. Therefore they called them A and B sides. Also when an artist produces a single with 2 main tracks they call it a double A-side single. Hope you understand this jargon. Any questions, mail me! Even though your pre-cd tape explanation seemed to make sense considered we also refer to the other side of a tape or a vinyl as a "b-side", I'm fairly certain that it's a little inaccurate when talking about what we refer to as b-sides today. I may be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, but I also just quizzed two other people, and they agreed with me: To the best of my knowledge of the subject, a b-side is *not* a song that is included on a regular album and just not released as a single, it's a song that has the same chords & patterns as another song.... for example for anyone who is a weezer fan, the song "mykel & carli" which they wrote after their friends tragically passed, is a b-side to "the sweater song" from the blue album.... I'd use a Jewel song as an example, but try as I may I just can't think of any right now....I'm sure someone else on the list could come up with a few though. ~<3~ Sandy - ---------->http://www.envy.nu/angeloflove<---------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 16:23:24 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: FW: [EDA] Question & OMG! When most people refer to a b-side, they're simply referring to the song that is on the other side of the tape or record single. Or song "2" on a CD single. Maybe your definition is technically correct as far as how the name originated (although I can't verify this), but regardless, the majority of the world and radio stations use the terminology as meaning the "other" song contained on a single. > ---------- > From: Sandy[SMTP:Angelicpoet@home.com] > Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2001 7:16 PM > To: Rowley; jewel@smoe.org > Subject: Re: [EDA] Question & OMG! > > > A B-Side is the song(s) you get at tracks 2, 3 etc.. they are the songs > that > > are not the main single. > > Even though your pre-cd tape explanation seemed to make sense considered > we > also refer to the other side of a tape or a vinyl as a "b-side", I'm > fairly > certain that it's a little inaccurate when talking about what we refer to > as > b-sides today. Nowadays, B-side refers to extra tracks on an album; or you'll see a collection of B-sides, like Sarah McLachlan's _Rarities, B-sides and other stuff_. _Rarities_ is a bunch of live tracks, remixes, etc. >and the difference of EP and LP? * Standard albums are LPs, or long play discs.
