One of the Servers at the restraunt where I work died of a drug over dose around 9am Thursday morning. His name was Rich Waybright. This is a small restraunt chain of 13 locations, and the store where I work has maybe 70 employees. Usually we have less than 20 in the entire restraunt during a shift. So were a pretty tight knit group. There really isnt much you guys can do, but could you please say some prayers for his family and the rest of the Crew at Gator's Dockside in Lake Mary, Florida. Im doing reasonably well considering all ive been through in the last 2 days, but some of my friends at work are taking it pretty hard. Thanks all Eliot~ the angel who's cloak is staind with tears ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2001 16:19:49 EDT From: RachKat926@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Hard Rock Live Hi all! I hope everyone has been well. I just found out that Jewel's Hard Rock Live will be on CMT on Friday July 13 at 6:00 PM Central time and Saturday July, 14 at 1:00 AM Central time. ~Rachel~ the angel who's trying to replace shows that her VCR didn't feel like taping :) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2001 16:44:18 EDT From: RachKat926@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] all access: strugling singers/songwriters VH1 Hi all! I just watched part of that All Access and will be watching the whole thing later tonight. I just thought I'd comment on some of the things they talked about. I for one LOVE singer/songwriters. I believe that it is absolutely wonderful to be able to write your own songs and sing them. That's what absolutely blows my mind about Jewel: her 200 some songs that she's written herself. It flabbergasts me and there are not many people on this planet that can match that feat successfully. Personally, and this is just MY OPINION-- no flames, please-- I can't wait for the teeny bopper generation of boy bands and plastic girls to run their course. I love music with depth and introspective thought. And although those pop bands do give people a reason to dance and have fun, they are molded and synthetic and unoriginal. Not my idea of good music. On the All Access show, they said that singer/songwriters will always write but will they ever find an audience? I believe that they DO have an audience- and quite a sizeable one. Look at us: we're a group of loyal fans following a singer/songwriter who isn't as "successful" as the boy bands and pop groups. (By "successful," I am taking that by the record companies' and radio stations' definitions.) I think that if radio stations and other forms of media would stop forcing the "popular" music down our throats and gave us other styles of music, the singer/songwriter would thrive. Radio stations have bad habits of just playing what sells to the populus. However, there are HUGE groups of people who hate that kind of music and would ravenously enjoy hearing something new. I'm not sure what the point of this email is, but I would enjoy hearing what other people think. To wrap it up- I don't think that singer/songwriters have lost their audience. We're here-- we just can't rely on popular mediums such as radio to listen to our favorite singer/songwriters. Take care, ~Rachel~ the perfectionist angel PS-- don't forget storytellers!!! ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #255 ***************************
