Hello I love country music. But living in Europe, my friends think I'm weird. Nobody (or so) listens to country here. My fav artists list from a couple of weeks ago reflected my "love" for country. That's why I wouldn't mind to hear a Jewel country album (although I have to say that I can't really imagine Jewel making a 100% country album). And when I drive long roads (too often), country music just makes the trip faster :) (I'd dance in the car if I could lol) Nicolas ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 08:44:27 -0500 From: "Kristie Biggs" Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel's Upcoming 4th Album!!1 Man who ever wrote that didn't have a clue did they! She will definitely loose me as a fan. Though she would be gaining new fans from the country scene. I prefer the older stuff. Hearing POY made me a fan. Thanks the kind of stuff I really enjoy from her. When's the last time Jewel wrote something like "Painters"? Come on, nothing on Spirit could even touch that song. I've listened to Spirit once and will never hear it again. I'd like to give my copy away to somebody who needs it. I'm also not into anybody doing christmas albums. And would never consider buying it. Luckily I've recentley found "Save The Linoleum" CD. I did buy that. Great Stuff. I guess I'll always have my angelfood, to help me remember the days when Jewel was at her best. Onstage, just by herself, with her guitar. Makes me wish The Rugburns would reunite. Kurzweg was in the Big Apple recently recording three songs for Eagle-Eye Cherry (son of jazz trumpeter Don and brother of singer Neneh). While there, he was interviewed by pop poetess Jewel about recording a song or two for her next album. Sure enough, Kurzweg was called to Nashville, where he recorded one song for Jewel and will return to do a couple more later this month. Sometime later this summer, Kurzweg will head for Orlando to start work on Creed's next album, his third collaboration with the mega-platinum former Tallahassee band. - ----------- Chris. http://www.jewelfan.co.uk : Jewel - Pieces Of UK ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 11:29:49 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Subject: [EDA] country or not, does it matter? It's so amusing how rumors get started. In the last week we've gone from Jewel isn't doing a country record, to Jewel might be doing a country record, to Jewel IS doing a country record. LOL Why don't we all just wait until it comes out, THEN determine what type of record (CD) it is. Seems like that's alot easier, because no matter what we're all speculating now, it's not going to change the outcome. So just sit back and wait. And who really cares what type of record it is anyway? I mean, if you like JEWEL, you're going to buy it regardless, right? It could be opera, or rap, and I bet 95% of the list would still buy it since it's Jewel. :-) Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 17:24:11 From: "Gerry Lipnowski" Subject: [EDA] Doug Pettibone sighting Hi folks, I just wanted to mention that I saw Lucinda Williams (who was brilliant) in concert the other night, and her excellent touring band includes Mr. Doug Pettibone. He was in great form, playing up a storm which prompted spontaneous applause several times. He also sang quite a bit and played harmonica. Given the recent discussion on the possibility of Jewel's next recording being country-based, it was interesting to see how well Doug handled his role in a country setting. If Jewel does a country album, it would be easy to see her and Doug teaming up again. Oh, and Mike, I don't think Atlantic would balk at the prospect of Jewel goin' country: I think they would have visions of Shania Twain sales numbers dancing in their heads.... And imagine all the fun remixes they could issue - - "Y'all Were Made for Me", a Christmas duet with Nedra of "Rudolph, the Red-Necked Reindeer..." Have a swell weekend. Just my opinion, but I think we're getting a little too carried away assuming Jewel's next album is going to be country. I know half of us are excited and half of us are appalled by that idea and would refuse to buy it if it was in fact country, but if you think about it, Jewel's "country" isn't country at all. Its acoustic ballads. Her "country" is songs like "Studies in Love #12", "Angel Needs a Ride" "Don't Wanna be Loved By Anybody But You" and so on. (For all those who despise country and wouldn't buy her album if it was 'country", I'm sure you'd buy it if it had those songs, and others like it, since we all love those songs so much) But regardless, lets not get all worked up about anticipating or dreading the supposed upcoming country album. Only Jewel and her management now for sure what its going to be, and I'm sure they're still deciding on things. We don't even know what her plans are, we can't make them up and assume what they are according to the fact she sang with a few country singers and so forth. Chances are her 4th album will not be released until late this year (December) or early next year (Jan-Feb), according to my predictions. So instead of holding our breath and waiting for this to be released, lets all breathe a little, and enjoy listening to our angelfood. :) cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2001 18:46:19 -0700 From: "Sandy" Subject: Re: [EDA] Country? > We don't > even know what her plans are, we can't make them up and assume what they are > according to the fact she sang with a few country singers and so forth. cymbies right...we can't just assume since she's sang with a few country singers that she's going to make a country album. I think the real reason she's sang with them, to begin with, is because they thought she had a beautiful voice, and asked her... I don't think she's the one out seeking country music, I think that people just appreciate her voice, and since she's not apposed to singing a lil' bit country, she agreed. Besides, with Ty as her beau, she's kinda been thrown into that scene a little more, but I sincerley doubt that's she's jumped on the country bandwagon for her next album, or even in the future for a full album.... I know she likes to dabble, but I think it's just that...dabbling...enjoying trying out a variety of music, but for the most part sticking to the pop/rock genre....I actually expect this record to be somewhere inbetween her other releases....very POY-esque songs & lyrics, but perhaps a little bit more produced like on the Spirit side... I think she misses the POY-days, and I'm sure her record company would be more than happy to go back to something more like that since it sold more records, and therefore made them more money.... ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 00:01:40 EDT From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Looks like we have BOTH types of music on this list... Howdy. Looks like we now have BOTH kinds of music on this list -- Country and Western. Yee-haw! (Where's my plywood cow when I need the little wooden bastard?) *ahem* Seriously, I don't care what type of album Jewel releases next. Just RELEASE something. So far she's got the female teen angst collection album, the over-produced but well-financed album and a Christmas album. Back in 1996, I would have been surprised by the latter two. I would have been less surprised by the ROCK album she already recorded at Bearsville, a blues and/or jazz standards album, or a country release. Or even a gospel album (but then again, I guess her last two albums could loosely be defined as being gospel of one sort or another...) BTW, is there anyone else out there who who like to hear Jewel let rip a cover of "Amazing Grace"? I bet she could pull up a few butts from the church pews with that one. Alas, too many female artists have covered it, so I doubt we'll ever get a Jewel version. To sum up my wish list: Hold the books, hold the movies, hold the upcoming K-Mart clothing line (hey, someone's gotta replace Jaclyn Smith eventually!). Just record good music and RELEASE it. Dennis, who really enjoys Jewel's MUSIC. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 00:29:49 -0700 From: Shawn E Williams Subject: Re: [EDA] My Opinion on New Album i would like Jewel to do a country album, but just not yet. maybe it will be a variety of different types of music. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
