I mean, she grew up on country music and a majority of her music could definitely be considered country. Just my personal opinion. Country these days is really just pop in disguise anyway. Look at Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks. They are played on the "pop" stations. Just a thought. Kristie The free Angel >>> T H 05/30/2001 1:50:54 PM >>> Part One: B Stick to what she's best as.....a folk, pop and rock singer. She can try country when her career is fading and nobody cares anymore (except us). I've never liked rap by anyone so I'd hate to hear one of her singles performed that way. Part Two: B Her career and success is going well. She doesn't need to dig out something old. That would seem desperate. I would prefer to see a live album from her last major US tour as someone else mentioned. They brought vinyl back. Why not live albums? A live video performance of a whole show would be cool too. Most of the pictures seen recently have shown her with long hair, but I was wondering if she got a hair cut. Anyone know? I hope not, I really like the super long flowing kind of thing. One more post on the song Jewel's doing at the TNN/CMT Country Music Awards.. It's a John Michael Montgomery song called 'The Little Girl'.. In the album version, he duets with Alison Krauss.. She just does some background singing, Jewel will probably sing the second verse.. That would make the most sense.. Well, here's the lyrics.. They're very sad.. Very Christian-centric, however, but sad in general nonetheless.. THE LITTLE GIRL John Michael Montgomery Her Parents never took the young girl to church Never spoke of his name, never read her his word Two nonbelievers walking lost in this world Took their baby with them what a sad little girl Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs Never wanted to play or give kisses and hugs She'd watch the TV and sit there on the couch while her mom fell asleep and her daddy went out and the drinking and the fighting just got worse every night behind their couch she'd be hiding oh what a sad little life BRIDGE And like it always does the bad just got worse with every slap and every curse until her daddy in a drunk rage one night used a gun on her mom and then took his life and some people from a city took the girl far away to a new mom and a new dad kisses and hugs every day her first day of Sunday school the teacher walked in and a small little girl stared at a picture of him she said I know that man up there on that cross I don't know his name but I know he got off cause he was there in my old house and held me close to his side as I hid there behind our couch the night that my parents died scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. In my opinion, Jewel doesn't need to be a huge global superstar. That can change a lot of things in a person's music and attitude. If Jewel changes her music to conform to what the "world" wants, just to become a global superpower, then we've lost what we love about Jewel in the first place. That's just my humble opinion. Why possible ruin a good thing just to be "successful." She's already successful in my book. Jewel's next CD being a country CD. > B. Jewel's next CD being a rock CD. > C. A remix of a Jewel single (past or future), by a rapper. I'd have to say rock. I'm sure how the general public (the ones not into Jewel already), would respond to that. Cross over stuff is usually really frowned upon especially when you delve into R&B or Country...people are very fickle like that. They get an idea of how someone is, and if that person changes, they start to not like them. They never think they might have been wrong or the person has changed tastes. She's always been "closer" to rock....(i.e. she played Woodstock, Rock Fest, etc...) so if she did rock it would go over better in general. And, on a personal note, I'd just like to hear more electric stuff like "Love Me Just Leave Me Alone".....she's got a great Janis Joplin style voice when she uses it and that is so rare. I'll be honest, as a lead vocalist that has sang blues, country (hey, I live in Dallas, I had to), rock and even played Beatles and Stones in a cover band, country doesn't take much to sing comparatively...it's probably the easiest of the whole bunch. > > Do you think a remix of a single would help further her career and > help her success? > A. Yes > B. No > C. Not sure It would depend on the artist and how it was used....I'm sure if Snoop Dogg covered it, it wouldn't go over as well, since most of his viewpoints conflict the stuff Jewel feels and would be considered a sell out. I think maybe if a rock band, industrial band, or even a techno group (like say, Crystal Method) sampled a song, it may suit her better. But there are some rappers out there that it would work with.... Matrix - The Angel who would sample her, but would probably just get sued.... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 May 2001 17:46:08 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W."
