But I think we are crazy. I too am a person who has other interests - Jewel just happens to be one of the most interesting. I want to know what speech in Macbeth it was because I just read it last semester and I want to get hold of a copy again and, uh, perhaps memorize the speech...I probably already know what it is. My crazy teacher made us memorize practically the whole darn play...anyways...Other crazy Jewel things I do/have done...this is all so embarrassing...please don't commit me... 1) When I went to Chicago with my band, I spent the entire time we had to shop (which was only about 3 hours) looking desperately for a music store to buy Jewel stuff, (I live in Canada and there is zippo in the way of Jewel here) and when I found the Life Uncommon video, I shrieked loudly and embarrassed my friends by jumping, screaming, etc... 2) I watched about 6 hours of Woodstock on Much Music just to see three minutes of Jewel. 3) My sister and I once spent a couple of hours debating the best relationship we could have with Jewel (such as aunt, sister, etc) and we came up with godmother as the best solution. 4) I have spent many an hour teaching my best friend, who can actually sing, unlike me, to yodel. She's damn good at it now. I'm so proud. 5) Whenever my sister or I question whether the other one is telling the truth, we get out Chasing the Dawn and make the person in question swear on it. 6) After seeing Jewel in concert, my sister had some sort of fit and started writing Jewel everywhere like a crazy maniac.(on her wall, foot, posters) 7) I can identify any Jewel song by hearing only, like, 2 seconds of the beginning. ...and that's not the worst of it...I'm sure there is more. I can answer my own question. I am sad and pathetic. But I do have a life. Really I do. Okay, my ten favourite lines... 1) So why not follow me, the blonde bombshell diety, I'll sell you neat ideas without big words, and a little bit of cleavage to wash it all down. 2) You lit the fire with an ingenious subtlety, and you slipped through the fingers of ambiguity. 3)Walked up the hill to school both ways, with no legs, top that 4) And I'm sorry that I didn't always have a match, that could light a fire big enough for your heart to catch 5) I know that you love me, and soon you will see, you were meant for me, and I was meant for you 6) Poverty stole your golden shoes, they didn't steal your laughter 7) And lend your voices only to sounds of freedom, no longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from, fill your lives with love and bravery and you shall lead a life uncommon 8) And she felt much relief as the ceiling fan tapped out a broken melody 9) But if it were me, I'd have the guts, I'd put to test those bolts and nuts, and I'd ride away so fast so far 10) This ain't no Malibu Barbie Corvette, this is a real 360 fuel-injected engine from a private liner jet, and I'm gonna be your race car driver Wow, this is really long, and has made me feel really insane, so I am done now. Pray for me. They're not really in order except for Ani.. She surpasses anyone that I could ever put on a music list, including Jewel.. I think her power as an activist, a songwriter, a musician, a...person, is something not surpassed by any public figure of modern times.. So, yeah, they're kinda in order, but not really except for Ani.. 1. Ani Difranco 2. Sheryl Crow 3. Tori Amos 4. Melissa Etheridge 5. Fiona Apple Okay, well there's no way I can't mention the other musicians that I have all the respect in the world for.. Jeff Buckley (I'm just recently getting into him, so as he grows on me he'll be higher in my music world.. His voice is heaven-sent..), Sophie B. Hawkins (the way she fights so hard for all the causes she believes in, and the way that she gained independence from her record label and is doing things completely free from corporate control now is amazing..), Indigo Girls (their grassroots style is very unique and their songwriting is excellent.. They complement each other perfectly..), Janet Jackson (she might seem like an odd fit, but The Velvet Rope has to be one of my top 10 albums of the last decade (if i could only include one Ani cd, of course...lol)), Poe & Nelly Furtado (two artists that are very unique and brilliant in their respective genres).. And for sonic value: some Guns N' Roses, Zeppelin, Goo Goo Dolls, and Train stuff finds itself in my CD player very often.. Also, some new artists I'm getting into are Coldplay and Five For Fighting.. Okay, before I remember anyone else, I really need to stop.. =) scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME.
