Hi Angels, So, I hadn't checked my email in about a month and was terrified to look at how many messages I had - there were about over a thousand. I freaked out a couple times and avoided my email, but today I finally braved my messages and read some and deleted most. It feels great to be back. I missed my fellow Jewel-obsessers. What did I miss while I was avoiding my email? Anything really important? Birthday stuff? Record stuff? Ty stuff? I am obsessed with Jewel. Quite unhealthily, I think. Would you like to use it in your new Planet Of The Apes movie Mr Burton?". Among the others she's done, she was asked to record "All By Myself" for Clueless, "Sunshine Superman" for the Andy Warhol movie, and was of course asked to write and record "Face Of Love" for that Romeo & Juliet film (the one with DiCaprio), although the music producer for that film hated the result and did not use it. (which of course could happen again and we'd maybe never know it. Maybe Tim Burton DID ask Jewel to do a song for Planet Of The Apes and ended up discarding it...know what I mean?). But yeah, I agree with the underlying request here, it would be nice to hear another Jewel song, new or a cover, in a new film. While she very well may have uttered that line sometime before or since, the first and only time I heard it was at the first night of JewelStock, which was Thursday July 18, 1996. At the time, Jewel was recording what was supposed to be her second album (with the distinct possibility of some JewelStock performances making the album), but for various reasons that particular album from these particular recording sessions never came to see the light. During the show, just before going into Carnivore (with the band), Jewel spieled: So, I've been thinking of titles for the album. And...uh...we have... here we go. "Goldfish Don't Bounce", which I've kind of ruled out :::the crowd laughs ::::: BUT IT'S FUNNY!! "Fish Don't Know They're Short, They Just Feel Sideways" and I also have uhmmm....uh, Innocence Maintai.....uh, "The Crisis Of Innocence".......dramatic! and I have "The Absence Of Fear", which I'm kind of liking. and I have "Pink Fleshy Heart"..... So...the person who puts the biggest bill...in the back of their choice...wins.... This is where "Pink Fleshy Heart" comes from." and then they launched into an amazingly rousing and stunning version of Carnivore......brought the house down..... it was later announced that she had decided on "Fritz Creek Store" for the title of the album (named after a store near where she grew up in Alaska), but again, alas, that CD was never released. (although a small piece of JewelStock DID of course make it onto Spirit. Lenedra's vocals on This Little Bird on Spirit were recorded solo that very same night at JewelStock. Jewel recorded her vocals for that track at the Spirit sessions).
