It was by far the most original and refreshing movie that I have seen this year, and as a burgeoning movie buff, that's a lot. The cast was very convincing; Guy Pearce was great, as were Carrie-Anne Moss, Joe Pantoliano, and Christopher Nolan.. The real star, however, was the way the movie was scripted.. It tracks the murder of a man's wife.. What I knew going in to see the movie from reviews and everything is what I'll share briefly. Leonard (Guy Pearce) recieves a concussion when he tries to save his wife, who is being raped and killed.. This concussion gives him a complete loss of short-term memory as to events that happened after he tried to save his wife.. He must take photos of everything and write everything down, and he even gets tattoos of things important to solving the case so that he's sure not to lose the info.. And everytime his memory lapses, he must go over everything he has while still trying to discover new info.. So he's racing to discover who murdered his wife while fumbling to remember what he just figured out.. The movie starts at the end of a period of time and goes back to the incident with his wife.. So you see the movie in backwards chunks essentially, and you learn more and more the closer it gets to the incident.. There are many twists to the story, and after it's over, it's one of those things where you go...'Whoa, did that just happen?'
