I am sure that there are some of us who have been through heart wrenching experiences and, Gina, my heart goes out to you. - ---"So donating in the memory of someone is appropriate. When police or fire men/women die, they donate to charities and stuff in their names. It's the same idea."---- I understand what you're saying here but it's not exactly the same thing. Donating money like this IS a way to support and show respect but it's not quite the same as when someone generously lets you in on a personal part of their life and you then take it upon yourself to not only remind them of it but, in this case, act like you know what it was like for Jewel to lose Jacque. We didn't just hear about Jacque's death on the news. Jewel let us in on a delicate part of her life. That is what makes it personal. And to DAN, ----"all this stuff about us invading Jewel's personal life is silly. If we're so worried about that, let's stop sending her email/snailmail, trying to meet her after shows, going to the shows in the first place, etc."---- Silly? I think you've totally missed the point. Email and going to concerts and wanting to chat after a show has nothing to do with this. This is much more personal. We didn't know Jacque. It was generous and wonderful of Jewel to share her with us at all... However I don't think her sharing he story means she's actually inviting us in to her life. We're only visitors. We should respect that. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2001 22:48:57 -0400 (EDT) From: "V. The group I work for is a collaborative research group which is made of research institutions and treating hospitals. The group works with the NCI to design and coordinate clinical trials. While I certainly can't speak for the group, I can say that in my personal opinion donations would do much more good going to the Clearwater Project. While I'm sure the donations we receive are very helpful, pediatric cancer research is very well funded in countries which posses the infrastructure and human capital necessary to perform such research. The rate of advance in cancer research is most limited not by funding, but by the finite number of bright researchers and inspired ideas. The pursuit of knowledge is already well established as a pious, and even an expected, task in our society. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for achieving a humanitarian perspective. HGH presents a unique opportunity for us to assist in the establishment of humanitarianism as a duty and an expectation. While contributing to an established institution, such as pediatric cancer research, can help that institution to reach its goal, contributing to an emerging institution can help it establish itself and subsequently help that emerging institution change the world. While it would probably very significant to Clearwater, the amount I expect the EDAs could raise would probably not be significant to the social institution of pediatric cancer research. Just my personal opinion, - Alex ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 19:59:41 +1000 From: "Lauren Bendeich" Subject: Re: [EDA] jewel in movies DEFINATLY gotta say a good comedy!! This party supposedly had a HUGE screen that showed the oscar ceremony to a bunch of reall famous stars. After the oscars there was an after party there where many attendees (including Renee Zellweger) went to party. Feel free to correct me if Im wrong, but I thought that was what I read. Also if you haven't read Bridget Jones' Diary you should. Especially the ladies :) It's really funny. I think Renee will do a great job playing Bridget. - -- Chrissy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 09:38:52 EDT From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: jewel-digest V6 #141 In a message dated 4/10/01 1:21:14 AM Eastern Daylight Time, owner-jewel-digest@smoe.org writes: > Probably to support Ang Lee. And second of all, most celebrities (if given the opportunity) attend those parties... whether or not you've been nominated for an oscar. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 10:19:02 EDT From: JimboUK999@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: Jewel Look-alikes In a message dated 09/04/2001 06:20:39 GMT Daylight Time, owner-jewel-digest@smoe.org writes: << hi guys! i saw the previews for Renee Zellweger's new movie Bridget's diary or something like that, but anyway there is this one part when she is sitting at the table all dressed up and she looks up and smiles and she looks exactly like Jewel, not to mention she did in Jerry MAguire too. >> Must be the swiss ancestry they share!! - -jim ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 15:17:53 -0700 From: Shawn E Williams Subject: Re: [EDA] Re: Jewel Look-alikes hi!
