Hey all! Well, I really have to agree with Bob, Brooke and Katherine here about the Jacque donation. Yeah, it's a really sweet thought but Jewel might feel a bit invaded. I realise she wrote about Jacque in CDTD for the whole world to read but that doesn't really give us the write to assume Jewel would be okay with us butting in and THINKING she would appreciate the donation in Jacque's name, especially since none of us know Jacque personally. Jewel obviously holds her in high regard as a best friend and again I think it is a little invading and she might think we are being freaky-stalker-fans. That's just my take on it- i know I'd feel weird if it was happening to me. Plus there is the whole 'remembering jacque' thing on her Birthday- might not be too much fun for Jewel. Well, I'm gonna go before I start an argument Luv Ya's! Lauren P.S. Does anyone know why Jewel was at the Oscar's? I realise she is an actress now and all, but I don't really understand why she attended...... _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Apr 2001 09:56:47 -0000 From: "Aaron Dixon-Cave" Subject: [EDA] tape trade hi i was wondering if there was any UK angels on here who have and would be willing to make a VHS copy of VH1 Storytellers and/or Austin City Limits?? He was up for Best Director for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and she was the female lead in her previous film. Besides, why not attend? She got an invitation, why not go and see all the big stars again? Not to mention she probably has had more film offers pass her way....attending the Oscars is a great way to hobknob with the stars and talk shop at the parties after the show. Maybe get some insight about various producers, directors and actors to help her decide on a film offer. And as others had mentioned, what gives us the right to pretend we know how painful it was, just because we read her book. I think that it is nice that people want to show Jewel that they care, but if you feel that "Jacque" is the way to go, then don't you think that maybe there should be a donation to Jacque's cause (i think it was said that she died of cancer -I haven't read the whole book yet) for Jacque and we just tell Jewel about it or make it from "Jewel and the EDA's." A donation that would help people like Jacque and as a result save people like Jewel (or anyone) from having to go through the pain of losing someone. I think that there's a possibility that Jewel would appreciate that more. I think that it is something better and more effective than just mentioning her name. Clearwater is something that Jewel has chosen as her project and something that we have wanted to help with and have in the past, but it is not something that Jewel can't accomplish without our contributions. Donating to cancer in name of Jacque or Jacque and Jewel is something that Jewel probably hasn't done, so maybe it is something a little bit different that we can give to show how much people affect other people. But maybe some of you still think that Clearwater is the right way to go, and maybe it is, I'm just making suggestions here, but if Clearwater is the right way, wouldn't it make more sense to make a donation on Aug. 17 ( ? ) in memory of Jacque. That's the day that Jewel will remember a sad occasion, but it could also be the day that jewel realizes how much her sharing that story has affected other people. But that's just my take on it all. -Katherine ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Just a short little story :) Today, my school had a blood donation drive. As I was getting strapped up in the chair, they turned on the radio (there were about 7 or 8 other people donating the same time I was). As soon as they put in the needle, "Hands" came on the radio. I thought that was a good omen :) Anyway, that's all i have to say. Jenni ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 Apr 2001 23:39:07 From: "Rowdy White" Subject: [EDA] NJC: Luna's Candlelight Concert Hey everyone... Well Last saturday Luna Taylor played a great, really great, one of her best LRCs in Austin texas... and here are most of the details... The show was hosted at a great two story home on the outskirts of Austin, by a very great guy named shane. The crowd was very intimate with about 15 people attending, allowing all of us to crowd really close.. ;-) As I sat there, mesmerized by her music, I could see the shadow of the microphone caress her cheek lovingly. Luna's fingers slid nimbly across the guitar strings as the music washed over, and into us... Her singing voice is always soothing, but last night even more so, I could not help but feel my worries lessen and my muscles loosen. It was a fairly long two hour set that seemed to fly by way too fast. Aside from most of the songs from Mariposa (her CD) she also played a couple of older songs that did not make the CD such as: "Life is a Stranger", "Strega"(my favorite!) and introduced a new, very beautiful song, "Christie's Bathtub" and also "Let me down". She also managed to squeeze in a few covers such as the Hank Williams Sr classic, "Love Sick blues", Gershwin's (i think) "Someone to watch over me" (as a duet with a jolly good fellow named David M. ), the requisite "blackstar" by Radiohead (which is simply the best Radiohead song ever) and the very old, but great "cowboy boogey" As an added treat she also told the stories behind a couple of the songs, such as "Gypsy" "Biscuit song" and Christie's bathtub... Very funny tales that rival jewel's "deluxe resort" stories.. About fashion details... Well I'm the wrong one to ask about nail colors and such, but Luna was wearing a gorgeous knee length red dress that really went well with her hair, and brought out her eyes... la luna roja.... As for the atmosphere itself... Those of ya'll that were in the area but did not attend really missed out, honestly! The people that were there were so nice, and very unique. A PHD candidate in Mathematics from Lebanon (you know, that country in the middle east...), a world traveling Architect from Dallas, a ditchdigger/ busdriver from Abilene, student from San antonio, and several others that spoke several different languages, and had traveled quite a bit abroad. I promise you the conversations was very interesting... Yet just another one of the many reasons to come out of hiding to attend Living Room Concerts! Speaking of which, there was an EDA there.. Sara (or maybe Sarah..ooops) from San Antonio came up with her friend named Robin to see luna play, and I really hope she posts, to share with ya'll the many things I missed while being awestruck... After the show we played pool and talked, and ate, and stayed up entirly too late.. The music is always a great reason to check out a Living Room Concert, but equally, the people you meet there makes it worth it by itself... and if a guy can come halfway around the world to see Luna play, don't you think that a couple of hundred miles is nothing? ;-) Seriously, the show was great, and you should take the time to see luna play while she is around here, who knows? Being her, she might just decide to sling her guitar on her shoulder and search for the horizon's horizon... Anyway, thought I would share.. at the bottom is a fairly complete set list (though completely out of order... I should write these things down!) Rowdy Mariposa Delia, Privacy, Gypsy Why are you loving me Someone to Watch over me (Duet with dave M.) Love sick blues Blackstar Life is a stranger Strega Christie's Bathtub Goddess Quality Time Biscuit song Woman who can cook Always be your girl Let me down Stargazing Tuck me in tight Cowboy boogie _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Apr 2001 20:17:15 EDT From: EastAngelEDA@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Did anyone actually know Jacque?? But maybe some of us DO understand how painful it is. I lost my little sister to cancer. And I'm sure a lot of people on the list have lost someone special to them to a terrible accident or disease. So donating in the memory of someone is appropriate. When police or fire men/women die, they donate to charities and stuff in their names. It's the same idea. Just my opinion though.
