How funny that someone else asked for a VHS video of Jewel singing "Carnivore." I was just planning on asking for the same thing. Please email me if you have this! It's my favorite song, and I've seen her sing it in concert about 4 times, but having a video would be awesome! Thanks a lot! Carrie ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 10:54:28 EST From: Sokooletc@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: Pearl Jam & other coincidences The Pearl Jam video is actually Jeremy killing himself in front of the students. I watched an interview with Eddie Vedder who explained it that way. Also if you notice "Jeremy" closes his eyes tight and his head kind of tilts to the right simulating shooting himself in the head. Pretty disturbing, but it artistically depicts the message of a boy being neglected by his parents and is slowly going crazy until he goes over the deep end. I think if anything they should show this video every hour during T.V shows that are geared towards parents or close to that demographic and afterwards explain what the video is about to the more ignorant parents who think everything is "OK" with their kids right before they send them off with a PBJ sandwich an 45'. As we have all witnessed in the past, a lot of the bad parents who have nothing to blame but themselves find a scapegoat and pawn off their bad parenting on a music video or a movie instead of trying to see the true meaning behind it. The other example was "Basketball Diaries". Every one of the "not my child" parents was real quick to site the scene when Leonardo DiCaprio rushes into the classroom and opens fire resembling the latest tragedies. But if they were to watch the rest of the movie it depicts a teenager, similar to Jeremy, that has been neglected and goes through a personal hell which was the true life story of Peter Carroll, a self-proclaimed "beatnick" that became a genius writer and is teaching people through his anguish and pain. I, personally if I have a child, plan to show him this movie for him to learn what it's like when you turn to drugs and negelect your life and your goals. But the only thing those particular parents can find is someone shooting up a clas! sroom because it happens to be c oincidental. It's unfair to supress real life because it "sounds familiar". What's next is we're going to ban cartoons because Elmer Fudd keeps shooting Daffy. Here's another question. Has anyone seen the movie "Higher Learning"? If you did you might remember a part of the movie that shows one of the students shooting people at random from the top of the roof. Nobody ever mentioned that movie. Even the movie "Parenthood", a comedy, shows the same type of scene but somehow it's okay because we're dumb enough to realize it. Why not ban Parenthood with Steve Martin while we're at it. Why do life lessons have to be so cut & dry. They have to be spoon fed to us and made sure their digested the correct way or else we start plotting assasinations. We might as well make subtitles to every artistic movie explaining each and every scene so their is no misunderstanding even though our artistic freedom goes out the window. The crappy parents will still find something to call "the Devil". How many times have you heard people critcize POY. Doesn't that piss you off because you know what it means but everybody listens to words and not meanings and start labeling Jewel as a jealous, homophobic Jew-hater? Maybe it's just me. Chris and a couple of other guys rob a Jewel concert for Amnesty International at Rutgers. When they go in to do the robbery, they tell the look out not to go anywhere, and he they discuss getting her autograph, but the lookout says that he wants her underwear. Pretty interesting where Jewel references pop up these days. I love it! I loved the colors, I love the song, Jewel was SO beautiful... But, in my opinion, Jewel's best video is Down So Long. I know you'll all say: "Down so Long?? It is so simple!". That is it! The video is so like home, Jewel is so real, the ideia of putting her playin with her band was awesome, because it was the first time they appeared! I loved how the director used the green color too! This will likely be broadcast next Thursday, March 22 or the following Thursday, March 29th at 10:00PM EST. I'll let you know when we have the confirmed air-date so you can tune in. We'll also have that information on the www.jeweljk.com calendar when it becomes available. In other news, those of you who are fans of HBO's mega-hit show, "The Sopranos," were probably surprised last night! The plot featured a storyline where mobsters robbed the box office at a fictitious Jewel concert at Rutger's University in New Jersey. Much to their dismay, they discovered that not only was it a benefit concert, but most of the students paid for tickets using student activity cards! We have some seriously fun new things planned for Jewel's website this month and we'll be unveiling them in about a week or so.
