That is natural, and part of our jobs as media to push this sort of reaction, but if I were you, with this and any other news you watch, do your own investigation for FULL transcripts on stories...the same applies to any Congressional measures as well. You can subscribe to the Congressional Record and see every word spoken in Congress. You'd be surprised how very different the reality is from the news reports, even on these sorts of things. Notice I didn't use the word MUSIC. I can't believe someone would specious time and 8 paragraphs defending "rap"! Notice I didn't use the word MUSIC. Some stereotypes are based in fact, dude. Sorry to tell ya. Try not to be "Judgemental"? We make judgements every day of our lives! That is a major reason the country continues to nosedive, when weepy-eyed people are so feckless that they can't seem to muster up enough courage to simply say:"yes, dammit! I believe this or that is wrong and here's why...". The "hey, don't listen if you don't like it" defense is very weak. We all understand that free-speech is bound to hurt people's feelings, but would all you Eninem defenders also defend Louis Farrakhans' nice little diatribes about "whites and Jews being the devil" if he set that to music? I'm sure would you have some excuse for it, saying "some people are just not as enlightened as the rest of us", or "there is a deeper meaning" or some other BS convoluted logic you people come up with to let these guys hide behind the 1st Amendment. Howdy ya'll, I've seen a lot of negative posts and other not-so-nice stuff going on here lately. How about this...whenever someone says something you don't like personally, try talking to the person about that one thing PRIVATELY. Then you can still post to the list about whatever else you'd like. I was very happy you responded to Lorrie, because I know that English is an extremely hard language (along with Chinese--I'm not Chinese though, I'm Korean). When I first came to the US, I couldn't pronounce my name and had a hard time getting used to it. In Chile (in Spanish) it's pronounced more like "Elisabet". It's softer and easier for me, still... Anyway, I understood the English message and the Spanish, and now that I read it "twice" :), I don't think I'll be as intolerant anymore. I mean, I'm not saying that I'll still be intolerant, it's just that I'll try not to forget. Truthfully, I thought Antonio was making fun of us Americans because I do say those things too (you know, like "Damn Canadians with their hockey skills" and schtuff like that :)), so I just laughed along. And because of the whole Eminem argument, I didn't bother to read Lorrie's response... I didn't know she said those things. I hope she said that in the heat of the moment, that's all. ===== ~*Liz*~ the Misplaced Angel HARMLESS & SHAMELESS PLUGS (if you can, check 'em out!) I went to the official site to check out the pictures from concerts, and I saw that sheet with all the songs typed up... A setlist, isn't it??? Well, I don't blame Jewel, though, she's a busy woman, she can't make something up for every concert. For black history month, my school's African American students association (BOSS, I don't know what it stands for) made a little stage presentation, and they discussed music throughout the 20th century. It was awesome! They did some jazz in the beginning, the middle was a lot of doo-wopping, and they ended with an awesome breakdance performance with freestyle rap. The rapper dude was really awesome and he wasn't rapping about sex, or money, or violence, which I guess was obvious since we were in school... but the people in the auditorium hushed over his rap about ghetto life, and how he doesn't want to be shot down by 42 (I think it was actually 41) bullets "by New York's finest", which is what the police here are supposed to be, but some are really corrupted. It reminded me of early rap when there was a ot more political stuff than gangsta rap, and it made me sad that the rapper kid was worrying about death and the injustice in the world. I wish the rap-haters don't trash rap anymore, because, you know, you don't like when someone laughs at you for liking Juel, neither, right? I've been looked at strange for liking both (and country, and classical, etc). Oh, by the way, a while ago I wrote asking if I should take an AP course. I applied, but they didn't let me in. Not even on the waiting list! Apparently, the essay we had to write was really important, because this girl who really doesn't pay attention in class (everything has to be repeated twice for her) got in. And another guy who sleeps in class all the time got in. I wondered if I was angry, or sad, and I wasn't, it's actually a bit of a relief, but I was really in denial I hadn't gotten in. I was still wishing they'd made a mistake. I don't like being rejected... which also has to do with the rap thing. I want to be respected for liking the things I like, I hate to be rejected. ===== ~*Liz*~ the Misplaced Angel HARMLESS & SHAMELESS PLUGS (if you can, check 'em out!) A setlist, isn't > it??? Well, I don't blame Jewel, though, she's a busy woman, she can't > make something up for every concert. yup... setlist. the setlist for every concert was practically the same for every concert during 1999, with the exception of her solo acoustic time which was different every night, and for the 2nd band set, some of the songs were different for different shows. But, if she was not touring with a band, there would most likely not be a setlist, but when you have a band, you kind of have to.... (even if everynight has its own setlist), so the band members know what to play, and when to play it..... it would be kind of silly to be on stage and everyone chatting "hey.... lets do this one...." "no, lets do this one...." lol, or even worse, if everyone started playing a different song.... I've gone to small intimate shows in bars where the band would sometimes breifly discuss what to play next, and take requests from their friends, but thats a whole different scene. less professional. cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2001 15:34:00 -0800 (PST) From: liz lee Subject: [EDA] POY This is the last message today, promise! I read in a Juel biography that she did a concert in NYC and she got booed off the stage when she sang it. Kind of like we're doing with Eminem.
