Celine Dion also does a popular version of the song. As far as I understand it, Jewel did this song specifically for the movie, and it is not on hte soundtrack for some reason, which sucks...I don't think you can get a recording of it anywhere, actually. TV.... its all about sex sex sex.... sure sex sells, but for once, can't a family sit down together and enjoy an evening watching TV without crap filling their childrens minds? There used to be alot of family shows, but now even the "family" shows are still dirty. Then on the radio there's people like Eminem, for example who raps about raping his mom, and killing gays. Is this what we want out children to hear? Whatever happened to wholesome music? Is there anyone left, besides the small amount of people who actually sing positive things a whole family can listen to? And TV... as much as the shows on ABC on Frday nights were cheesy.... at least it was something our children can watch. I sure as hell would not want my small children watching stuff like Drew Carey and Friends....... i love Friends... but its not for small kids. Little kids are watching people screw eachother on Temptation Island, and getting a kick out of the show.... what is the world coming to? cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2001 17:34:03 -0500 From: "Scott Evans" Subject: [EDA] Re: Shawn's Questions For Shawn (and anyone else who wants to know): 1. Ani Difranco is one artist who you cannot possibly get a full representation of from one, or even a few songs.. I'd suggest buying her double live album, Living In Clip, and listening to the whole thing.. It's a best-of-the-best representation.. Crazy enough, I found Living In Clip and Dilate at my local library, so check your libraries! My favorite songs of Ani's are Untouchable Face, Jukebox, Gravel, To The Teeth, Dilate, Wish I May, Napoleon...well, all of her songs actually. I'll stop before I get too carried away. 2. Yes, it's Jewel singing 'All By Myself'.. There's no sndtrk or full version available publicly or in any angelfood or fan circles.. 3. Sheryl and Shelby Lynne were singing 'The Difficult Kind,' from Sheryl's The Globe Sessions, one of the best CD's ever made.. A version with Sarah McLachlan is also available on Sheryl's live CD.. scott.evans [[crazy is just YOU and ME. Hey Angels! I've made a decision... after reading an AOL message board where little children talked in misspelled broken English about Britney, NSync, and all these other bands, I decided that my radio station was also falling to the hands of these people and playing a more pop-sounding music genre lately. So I have come to my decision... and I'm asking for your help. I feel like buying CD's from all over; Amazon.com, the mall, the used cd place i still haven't visited yet, etc, in search of local, unrecognized, or lesser known artists in the folkish, alternative-ish, or whatever genre. The groups and singers I love now are Jewel, Poltzy, Ani D, Fiona Apple's cover of the Beatles' "Across the Universe", Brave Saint Saturn, Alanis, Sarah M., Dido, and then some of the more popular bands and groups. For the past year or two I have read everyone talking about LRC's and advertising for their fave artists, and I'd like to ask if anyone could send me their favorite 'lesser known artists' lists. I want to take a break from popular music before I go insane, and I'd love to hear everyone's picks. Just email me at this address and I'll get back to you then. Thank you! Now I play alone and with friends and like to 4-track. Of the 7 most recent songs I've recorded, one is sort of indie folk, one is indie folk with a layer of feedback, one is I don't know, and the rest are sound scapes... I love noise. My sound scapes have little to no time signiture at all, sort of John Cageish. My favorite band of all time is "Sonic Youth". I'll check out your site, how do you describe your style? I'm going to try to put my songs into MP3s so that I can make them accessible over the net... Do you 4-track? Have you ever heard any of Lou Barlow's Sentridoh? It's 4-track recordings that he does on the side when he's not busy with Sebadoh. I'm totaly into lo-fi recordings, I don't like a polished sound because I think that it takes some of the emotion out of the music and sort of dries it up. this is why I always rant and rave about how jewel should put out an album without any acompaniment; just her singing and playing her guitar, recorded on a shitty analogue 4-track. I think she's good enough on her own that she doesn't need a band or heavy reverb on her voice. - ----- Original Message ----- From: LH To: Sent: Friday, February 23, 2001 7:18 PM Subject: leaving on a jet plane > Yeah, I fell for the same thing...it is a good song > though, it's off of the Armageddon soundtrack.
