So far, I don't have much in the way of plans (trying to take it easy this time instead of cramming in a million things!), but I know Poltz is playing at the Belly Up on Feb. 1 (if someone can get me a ticket, that would be much appreciated). How about we do something then? Also, Randi Driscoll told me she has a show on the 5th but I think that's in LA. I'll definitely be going to that as well. Is Jason Mraz booked for any dates around then? Anyone want to host an LRC? Or just a plain ol' party? Or a day at the beach? I'm trying to talk a couple more out-of-towners into coming out there as well. I could definitely use a little fun in the sun. Get me out of this blizzard zone!!! How about an EDAF foodbank volunteer day while I'm there? :-) Amy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 16:30:48 -0000 From: "Chris Groves" Subject: Re: [EDA] Song Questions > Hey!!I am not sure if this is possible but is there any list...one someone > may have typed up or on the net or something that has a list of all these > said Jewel songs.I am really trying to collect as many as I possibly can.I > am also looking for a lot of the old coffeeshop songs and things like..Just > So Happens,If This Is What Love Is,I Don't Care etc.Anyone who can help it > would be VERY appreciated!! Hi angels! This may not be very important, but I just wanted to tell you guys that yesterday I went to a Karaoke Pub(...by the way I'm from Lima, Peru... that's in South America...) with some friends... I was dying to sing some Jewel, so I started looking for her and found her... she only had one song though, it was You Were Meant For Me... it was a shame Foolish Games was not included... I sang terribly, because my voice sucks and also because I thought the version of You Were Meant For Me was the Radio Edit (which is slightly faster than the normal version)... BUT THEY PASSED THE NORMAL VERSION... and I didn't noticed because I wasn't reading from the lyrics in the screen, as I know them so well, but then I realised I was ahead in the lyrics... but then I got it! First I sang along by myself, but then some friends accompanied me in the CHORUS! My singing sucks, but I sang very loud and with a lot of passion! :) It was so exciting! A funny thing: the lyrics were kinda messed up in the karaoke screen... instead of showing "I break the yolks and make the smiley face..." they showed "I break the yolks and make the smelly face" Okay, I'll shut up now! Sounds strange Hello Jewelfans, I was thinking today and it has been almost 19 months ago since Jewel was in Europe for promotion activities such as concerts , appereances on TV or other shows on radio. I really think this is not good for Jewel to maintain her fanbase in Europe. Of course i know Jewel doesn't want to be very famous, but 19 months inactivity in Europe is not good . None American artist really waits such a long time to come back to Europe. I hope only the opposite and that Jewel is really coming soon to Europe again to give concerts. i personally agree that we fans in europe would like to see a glimpse of her talents , her great concerts , just the great atmosphere of Jewel's performance on stage would be tremendously!! Who supports my idea ? Michiel ps i don't know why my mail on the jewellist about the question to send in Jewel as an artist for lineup of Pinkpop 2001 was rejected by the owner of this list...i really couldn't understand his actions or reasons to reject the mail. i think this list is a little bit strange lately . never any update or any other information about jewel's activities.. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 18:03:08 +0100 From: "michiel van gorkum" Subject: [EDA] Jewel coming to Pinkpop 2001 organization hello Jewelfans, You can help Jewel come to Europe by voting 5 artists to lineup the edition 2001 of Pinkpop in Holland. just send your entry with suggestions to : pinkpop@wanadoo.nl thanks for your cooperation , i count on you! michiel a dutch jewelfan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jan 2001 15:02:51 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: [EDA] 19 months no Jewel Appereances in Europe ?? None American >artist really waits such a long time to come back to Europe. Hate to disagree with you, but I couldn't disagree more. "19 months of no Europe shows" basically means she took a year off from touring. MOST artists take 2 or 3 years or more OFF from touring. Jewel takes one. (and I really have no idea how you can say "none American artist really waits such a long time to come back to Europe", when in fact MOST do. Do the math...."19 months of no shows in Europe" means a year off. I am quite certain not too many American artists tour Europe every year. The J-team pretty much said in late 1999, early 2000 that she likely would not be touring in 2000, and indeed that was the case, as she only had a few shows peppered in the Calif area in late 2000. Be grateful she's been to Europe nearly every (if not every) major tour she's had the last 5 years. > I hope only the >opposite and that Jewel is really coming soon to Europe again to give >concerts. If she indeed is recording again soon (if not now), there of course will be an album-promoting tour, which I am almost sure will hit overseas...and I'm sure since Europe is such a small area compared to the USA, yoiu'll be able to hit at least a dozen shows. Folks here in the USA will be lucky if they get to see more than one. >i don't know why my mail on the jewellist about the question to send in >Jewel as an artist for lineup of Pinkpop 2001 was rejected by the owner of >this list...i really couldn't understand his actions or reasons to reject >the mail. We've done it before) > i think this list is a little bit strange lately . never any >update or any other information about jewel's activities.. Maybe it's because she hasn't been doing anything that warrants an update? MrBB DID say it would be a few weeks before any news came along. (just checked...it's been about 4 weeks). The book promoting is over. The pre-holiday TV appearances are over. Now she is likely recording or soon will be. No updates are warranted as there are no updates. It's not like they are going to send out a JeweLink that is blank. We DO have update/news dry spells once in a while. It's normal, not strange. The difference between Jewel and MOST other US artists is that Jewel rarely does anything outside the US unless she's on tour, which basically means almost ZERO Jewel appearances on TV/Radio. You'll find MOST other US artists will spend time in Europe on promotional-only visits. > If she indeed is recording again soon (if not now), > there of course will be an album-promoting tour, which > I am almost sure will hit overseas...and I'm sure since > Europe is such a small area compared to the USA, yoiu'll > be able to hit at least a dozen shows. Folks here in the > USA will be lucky if they get to see more than one. I think you'll find that Europe is LARGER than the USA, and it's going to be far more difficult to follow Jewel across Europe due to having to cross international borders and because of the many different languages that we have. > >i don't know why my mail on the jewellist about the question to send in > >Jewel as an artist for lineup of Pinkpop 2001 was rejected by the owner of > >this list...i really couldn't understand his actions or reasons to reject > >the mail. > > Hmmmmmm, maybe because it wasn't? Well, Chris got me on the size thing....I admit I did not check the figures.....my bad....I erred as I was referring to the general expanse of where Jewel actually performs in Europe. (many shows in England and Germany, and most of the others being in western Europe......my main point was it seems a few of you guys over there manage to see at least a half dozen shows or more because of the many she does in a region, versus the one in NYC, one in Boston, one in Philadelphia etc etc she does in the states. It's rare to hear on the list anyone seeing more than 2 or 3 of her shows stateside. None the less my #1 main point was she took 2000 off from touring so it's not at all unusual for her to not have been in Europe for 19 months or so. It's the same for most of the world (except California). Plus the fact that most artists do not tour every single year, so a 19 month or larger touring gap in any specific region is not at all out of the ordinary. MOST :) Phish toured for nearly 17 years straight without a break. (finally having their much needed break, and spending time with their families). but until they start back up again and touring, I'm enjoying their latest release (a bunch of studio jam outtakes from a previous album) cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V6 #14 **************************
