Would it be necessary to even explain? The task to decide between POY and Spirit was not that easy.I do love them both so much, but I chose POY because it is her first. The album which made me connect and come to love Jewel. It shows the beauty and ability in her voice, and you can just picture her on stage with her acoustic guitar strumming and singing along to Near You Always.Never has an album had the ability to stir my emotions, and even listening to it now makes me cry....also You Were Ment For Me,no need for me to explain that chorus and bridge just carry it all themselves. *Melanie C-Northern Star - I figure most people would either dismiss Melanie C,say who is that or once I mention she is Sporty Spice they immediately laugh. But yes,the Sporty one has made a solo album. And this cd...it showcases that beautiful voice. In my Jewel love there is also a Melanie C love.I have been one of them fans since Wannabe came out..yeah not many of us left hehe,or many willing to admit it.Anyway such a big mix of styles are experimented with, and all the songs are very unlike the Spice Girls style.Wannabe...from now..and all the way into the future I will always worship Melanie.Just that voice she has,ah man. From the Beatlesesque 'Suddenly Monday' to the heavy angst filled 'Goin Down' to the peaceful 'Feel The Sun' and then back to the dancey yet irrestiable 'Go and 'I Turn To You' this album is guaranteed a song you will love. And Hey..if you are a TLC or Left Eye fan check out 'Never Be The Same Again.'One day Melanie C and Jewel need to do a concert tour together...it would be heaven for me.Both of my Goddesses on one stage...ahh love that Melanie C. *Bif Naked-I Bificus - Ohhhh Biffy!!She ROCKS!Nothing more to say. This cd,I loved every single song the night I bought it.I use to listen to this over and over for hours with no tiring.I just plain out love this cd.I am proud of myself to say that after I bought this album I have helped Biffy make five new fans. Each song is so catchy and you cannot help but want to get up and move. One of my dreams is to do 'Chotee' on Karaoke!Without a doubt I would bring the house down.'Moment Of Weakness' and 'The Peacock Song' could make anyone feel the want to just get up and jump. Then 'Lucky' and 'Any Day Now' will bring you back down to a more relaxed atomsphere.Biffy is a very down to earth kind of chick, and shows it on her cd.Everyone should purchase this album,it is a definate for any cd collection.Bif,Melanie and Jewel are my three insperations..very diverse but yet still so amazing. *Catatonia-Equally Cursed And Blessed - Not many people I know, actually only one person I know has heard of Catatonia. This album has such catchy songs which I cannot get out of my head.I need to restrain myself in the morning from listening to this album, otherwise I will be singing it all day with no relief. The way Cerys uses her voice with the feeling and intensity of the music is brilliant.Songs like 'Storm The Palace' and 'Mulder And Scully' will wrack you brain.Sooo catchy!'Londonium' and 'Karaoke Queen' have been in my head ever since I bought the album.Listening to them will not even help me get them out.Anyone who is in the mood for a new listen should pick this one up. *Blur:Best of - Okay,so maybe I cheated some. This is a double cd....one is a live cd but that is okay.Better for the price.Anyhow,I had only heard Blur's self titled cd(which I also LOVE) previous to buying this.Once I poped this in my stereo I could not stop. All the best of Blur is on here.My plan for January and February is to purchase a new Blur album every weekend until I have them all.Ah this album is so wonderful.Besides Damon being so damn cute, and his voice being so perfect each song on here has it's own feel.'Tender'-one of the best love songs I have heard,'Charmless Man'-so catchy and so much fun,'No Distance Left To Run'-A sad song and his voice makes you feel so,'Girls And Boys'-will not be out of your head for weeks, the new 'Music Is My Radar' and the ever popular 'Song 2' along with countless others make this album one of the greatest.Eighteen tracks of pleasure and perfection. *Sheryl Crow-Tuesday Night Music Club - This was the very first cd I was obsessed with.Every track on here is marvelous. After hearing this I could not get enough of Sheryl. If anyone does not own this cd I will never be able to understand.Miss.Crow has created a masterpiece. Her other two albums are brilliant also, but this being her first brought it all out to the public.'Cant Cry Anymore','Run Baby Run' and 'Solidify' are stand out tracks. The slow tracks 'Strong Enough' and 'I Shall Believe' show a woman who has grown into herself.Sheryl really has a voice with much more talent then those who are recognized in the music industry.A feel good album that may be 'old' to some people but compare it to many popular ones today and the talent will obviously be given to Sheryl. *Spice Girls-SpiceWorld - You knew seeing Melanie C up there, that Spice Girls would be on here somewhere!Okay some people may be laughing now,but give me a chance.I completely understand the idea that Spicies are 'fluffy','poppy' and 'fake.'I feel this way about BSB,N Sync,Britney and Christina. However they were really the first of the new pop groups out that were female. In the new wave of pop Spice Girls were the leading girl force.Launching many other girls into the musical world. These songs cannot be more catchy.'Never Give Up On The Good Times','Spice Up Your Life' and 'Do It' can get my feet moving.Maybe this will not be a greatest album to majority of people..but for me it is.The Spice Girls have done a lot for me,and gave me a new sense of my womanhood.I am so damn proud to be a chick now.Beyond the album the actual Girls are so interesting and easy to idenfity with.Up to you to decide if it is good enough for your list, but yes for me :) *Joan Osborne-Relish - -I agree with Scott completely. This album was put on repeat...mostly 'Right Hand Man' hehe for hours while me and my one best friend would hang out.One of the first albums that I owned and will never grow tired of.A certian blues feel is reveled in Joan's voice.'St. Teresa' and 'One Of Us' seem to be well known.Which is a good thing.'Pensacola' matched with 'Man In The Long Black Coat' create this vibe that only she owns.I have never heard another voice so individual as her's.This collection of songs show off Joan in a very skillful way.Whole waves of feeling are given off by her voice.Very easy to close your eyes and relax to. *Garbage-Version 2.0 - Ah Garbage. No one has a sound like them.NO ONE.This album can be popped into your cd player, hike them headphoes on and go.Shirley Manson is a god in the music right.I cannot even pick some stand out songs on here.I adore them all. This album creates a surreal world for which one can escape and forget everything. There is not one bad measure of music on this entire cd.Shirley's voice is magical. So honest and expressive. The same friend who would listen to 'Right Hand Man(Joan)' with me for hours introduced me to Garbage.I could thank her forever for it.Pick up either of there albums..self titled but more so Version 2.0.You will not regret it. And for my last album I could not make a choice. It is a choice between: *No Doubt-Tragic Kingdom *TLC-CrazySexyCool and *Oasis-(What's The Story)Morning Glory so I have no tenth cd.A decision between them two, which will not be decided upon.I am now curious to know which I would choose so let me go to my room...listen to them all three the way through and decide :) If you liked my list go ahead and IM me sometimes... The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly is a "Best Of 2000" issue, in which they also list things they were not too pleased with. It's the issue with Russell Crowe (sigh) on the cover. As usual, they pick on Jewel. It's a small piece on page 137, in "The Best And Worst Books" section. Most Regrettable Celebrity Bio Jewel's "Chasing Down The Dawn", which features not only poetry, but also illustrations. The self-portrait of Jewel a half pop-star/half sea turtle is hard to take. What exactly is it with them? Have they EVER said anything nice about her? It seems to me she could save the Pope with the Heimlich Maneuver and they would find fault with what she was wearing or what they were eating. I mean really! I guess to them it's funny - haha, a singer/songwriter who thinks she can write poetry and prose? Give me a break, song lyrics aren't that much different. Just because they don't think it's plausible for someone to cross over from musician to writer - please, it would be a laugh it if was Britney Spears writing a book of prose about her life (although I heard she knocked off an autobiography in about a month!). Had they read it they might have noted, being the fact that they *are* supposed to be writers working for that magazine, that it wasn't "poetry", but prose and short stories....to me that says they didn't even bother opening the cover, and just took a cheap shot at her. Perhaps the writer's there are just jealous of her all her talent! Maybe we should check to see if all the bad-remarks about Jewel are centered around just *one* writer, who possibly just has a thing against her for some reason! ~ Sandy > What exactly is it with them?
