She sang Silent Night..... and i think she needs a new hairstylist..... whoever sprayed her hair, left this one peice totally sticking up and it didn't look right. And when she laughed, her mouth had to be full of lemonade or something yellow, and she'd spit it all over while laughing (laugh in yellow) because for some odd reason, that really turns the guy on. :) lol cymbie tree hugger - -- when night falls it's dawn one must reach for. - -a. camus ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 12:14:37 EST From: RoXyGrL628@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Carnivore Lyrics hey guys, just wanted to give you my imput on the lyric question. I agree most closely with Jade. I think that she felt the relationship wasn't honest and she had to keep all of her feelings inside of her. So "lavender haunted you" meant that she couldn't talk about something meaningful or important and she could only talk about trivial or shallow things. ~liz ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 10:46:54 -0500 From: Katherine_Stojonic@michcon.com Subject: [EDA] Albums of the Decade Ooo... Whenever people send roses, they always say red roses stood for love, and yellow friendship... so I thought, maybe she is saying that he is still hurt by a previous love, and so she can only be a friend to him at that time. Just a suggestion, but it sounds good. It reminded me of how completely, ravishingly beautiful Jewel is.. I think her hair looks great teased up like that (except for the big piece sticking up.. hehe).. I wish she had something else besides a Joy song, but she had a cd to promote, and "Silent Night" sounded better on the second viewing.. How lucky she is not to be just gifted with good looks and a good voice. She's also gifted with intelligence, humor, a good heart, etc. Some of us aren't so lucky, but I truly believe that Jewel is one of those people who takes what she can do, and makes the most of it. Nikki ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 23:23:22 +0800 From: Barry Howarth Subject: [EDA] Carnivore lyrics question Hi Angels, >~ Lavender haunted you, > so I could only laugh in yellow~ The colours are significant: remember in "Painters": "They thought blue-prints were too sad so they made them yellow". Lavender is a sort of blue and blue is sad, depressed, and this is emphasised by the word "haunted". Yellow is happy and bright, and is reinforced by the word "laugh". What I think Jewel is getting at here is simply a contrast and an incompatibility. He is "lavender" and she is "yellow" and they don't go together. Another reason for getting out of the relationship. The problem for me, though, is the word "so". I think "but" would be better. I don't see " I could only laugh in yellow" as a consequence ("so") of "Lavender haunted you". Jewel is a spontaneous writer and has such incredible talent but this means she sometimes is sloppy in her composition and this is probably an example (and there are lots of others: for example, in "Marital Carnival" she clearly means "carousel", not carnival; and in "Life is a Great Big Mystery Show", "movie show" would make better sense, I think). This is her main problem as a poet for me. However, getting back to "Carnivore": on reflection his" lavenderness" may have forced her to "yellow", in which case "so" would be plausible. Jewel has a few colour images she likes to use: violet eyes ("Violet Eyes" and "Flower') -- deep and beautiful but without the "blue" connotation; tangerine lips ("Last Dance Rodeo" and "Shadows Play") - -- sensuousness. Are there any others that come up in more than one song? Take care, Barry Howarth ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Dec 2000 10:58:24 -0800 From: Gerrit Subject: Re: [EDA] Nikos JewelMic@aol.com wrote: > > Does anyone have the guitar tabs for Nikos? No, not because I care about the sound clips. Because no matter how down I am, someone is out there needing this money more than me. The sound clips are not to say, "My name is Jewel. You can only listen to my music if you have money." It's to incite members of this list to donate, those who normally wouldn't. Don't confuse helping the needy with buying music. Remember, Jewel is not making any money off this. And the clips ARE available for free download. You needn't feel like you're stealing anything, because you're not. By saying you are, you're just trying to arouse sympathy. Anywho that's my two cents, neither wrong nor right. Christopher Fisher The Lost Angel "I took it kinda hard myself. I am also a struggling, poor, 18 year old barely getting by. It was kind of like, hey, Jewel only wants people with money to listen to her music or something. I guess I was just depressed cuz I was already down about the money situation, but it seems like dangling a carrot 2 feet in front of a donkey to get it to walk, but never letting them actually have the carrot.
