["Scott Evans" Subject: [EDA] setlist summary I appreciated the 14 EDAs that composed a possible setlist for Jewel's next CD (through digest 446, roughly Thursday through Sunday evening, starting with a post by Tom Hall -- good idea, Tom). For those like me who are just beginning to get familiar with her unpublished material, it's illuminating to see what is popular, and what perhaps less well known pieces none the less made a strong impression on someone. I collated those lists and scored the songs in two ways. "Approval" is basically how often each song was mentioned. "Borda Count" assumed (and I know it is not true in every, or even most, cases -- still, there is probably something more than chance to it, as the first songs one thinks of are likely near the top of one's preferences, and anyway the two scores were closely correlated) that the songs that were listed were in the order of preference, and scored 20 points for the first song, 19 for the second, and so on. (Starting with 20 points came from that the most songs anyone listed was 19, and 20 is prettier. "?" songs are ones I could not verify as being a song Jewel has sung. The fractional parts came from some entry that listed two songs on the same line. Sixty-eight songs are on the list -- they would make a nice 5-CD set. Would the first 12 or 14 make a CD that would sell well?) Jokes about recounts are timely and sure to follow, but were not the intention . . . Subject: [EDA] re:jewel link hey guys i was just wonding if any one else felt kind of bad over the last jewel link sent. i'm 18 and have no job (not that i haven't looked) am trying to pay for university and can't afford presents for my own parents this christmas. i mean sure i'd like more than anything to be able to donate money to the clear water project but for right now all i can give to charity is my time and voulenteer. ( and have been doing bingo's for my school booster club and the local theatre, collecting donations for the kidney society ... etc.) it kind of seems to me like a bribe you donate money and you can listen to these sound clips in exchange but i feel if a person was going to donate they would do it out of thier own generosity which i feel this group of people do not lack. I think i read you can listen to them anyway if you don't donate, but who would feel like they were shoplifting or something if they did? I'm not trying to cause an argument just wondering how people feel on this? .... i didn't listen to them. Take > for example Christina Aguilera... I HATE HER SPANISH > songs... I may have just been mistaken, but what I got from this is that you are saying that Christina Aguilera is an "english speaking artist who released a spanish record". While it is obvious that she speaks English, :) She is also part Spanish (her father is Spanish) and she has learned to and spoken Spanish since she was little. It's also not surprising that if you don't like her English songs, you don't like her Spanish ones either, since I'm pretty sure most of them were just translations from her English songs, and not "new" songs. :) Anyways, just a observation :) Frankly, I'm not a fan of hers, but I didn't think her Spanish songs were horrible...but then again, I can only speak English and French, so anything in another language just sounds pretty! (I think Spanish and Italian are both beautiful languages to hear sung) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Dec 2000 14:35:07 -0500 (EST) From: Cody26@webtv.net (Michelle Cody) Subject: [EDA] OLIVIA GRACE: 6 WEEKS OLD TODAY;) Hello everyone! I wonder what it would take to get Jewel on that show. That would be an incredible show, more incredible if, say, only EDA's could call in. Before anyone jumps on me about that, I say that only because we know so many more songs. I wouldn't want to hear her sing only singles. How awesome would it be to pick our favorite songs for her to play? Well, I have to get ready for class. Enjoy college while you're there, I'm in grad school now, and there's very little time for real life. - -Kerri "But don't wander too far, my one constant star. Darkness exists, except where you are. After all is said and done, what is it that we've actually said and done? In all the confusion of holiday shopping, and long lines at the mall, I thought it would be good to give to the people who REALLY need it. So, I have organized a concert of local musicians, to raise food and clothing for the people that couldn't quite make it to the GAP this holiday season. The concert is called, "Will Sing For Food!" and it's just that. the admission is what you can bring: non-perishable foods, blankets, clothing, etc. The food will go to a local food bank, and the clothing and blankets will be picked up by Goodwill. The line up is as follows: 8:00 Kathy Fleishcman 8:30 Jim Goodin 9:00 Tim Booth 9:30 Mike Berkowitz 10:00 Kelly Gallagher (myself) These are local artists, with lots of talent. Please come and support local musicians, and your community, it's your responsibility. There will be good music, good times, and good will. For information, please write to: kellysings@myself.com Thanks! I think Shedaisy is a good band. I didn't see the christmas special, but they are good. Truthfully I think Jewel can sing awful sometimes, especially live. (flames thrown at me now) Yes, Jewel can sing beautifully when she wants to and so can Shedaisy. Just my opinion. Hi- I don't know if I told you guys, but I live in Michigan (lower MI). We just got 13 inches of snow yesterday and last night!! It's great, but frustrating cause you get stuck in the snow a lot with your car. BUT, I would just like to say Jewel is my savior while driving on tertius roads. I was driving home from school yesterday, and I played her music while driving. I sang along and it really helped me drive home safe. I didn't feel stress like I usually do when I drive in snow. Jewel's a life saver! I just thought I would share that with you all. Goodnight. Allena "Penny for your thoughts?
