Hi all, All dates and times are on Jewel's site calendar, but since we won't get another JeweLink out today, I wanted to let EDAs know that the television premiere of "Ride With The Devil" (starring Jewel in the female lead) is Monday night at 10:05 on the STARZ cable network. Additional broadcasts are scheduled in December and are listed on the calendar. Enjoy the weekend! Because she's on Rosie? Because because because. Ok, well MADONNA is best friend's with Rosie and has been on the show numerous times and has christmas music. I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't make sense to me that you like Madonna but dislike Jewel now. And how exactly did she sell out? Because I think it's pretty lame when people say someone sold out just because they're now successful and enjoying it. Should she stay poor and living in a van just for you? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Dec 2000 17:31:17 EST From: TFace151@aol.com Subject: [EDA] RE: trade sorry for a repeat message, but i just sent this message and i ment Rare Jewels Not rare Angels sorry Teresa Subj: Trade Date: 12/1/2000 5:28:05 PM Eastern Standard Time From: T Face 151 To: jewel@smoe.org Hey EDA's I have an extra copy of the spirit wourld tour book. I think Jewel's music is great, touching and inspiring... this will never change because that's a characteristic of her and that makes her songs specially hers! I was really interested in reading all of your posts about Jewel's next record and the whole pop thing, and it was really great to read so many different opinions! That's not bad... I wouldn't call it an argument, nor complaints either... is just a way of expressing our different views... something like a discussion! That's healthy, you know? You are not going to expect everyone to think like you... But some EDAs are reacting in a different way, even considering quitting the list because of this discussions... don't over react... the purpose of this list is to share the same or even different opinions about a singer we all love... Jewel! Don't worry... Jewel will always be Jewel no matter if less, more or even the same people are listening to her. You won't expect everyone to like her music, however great we find it to be! Yesterday, I invited a friend to my house and I put some Jewel... he always heard about her... well, but that's because I talk a lot about her in school :) But anyway, I put my Pieces Of You CD and he listened to You Were Meant For Me... and he immediately liked it. Somewhere between the lines of "I break the yolks and make the smiley face..." at the beginning of the song he unexpectedly shouted "Oh! I really like Jewel, I really really like this song!" and I was like "Do you really think so? Great!" and he went "Yes... I like the rythm and her voice is lovely..." Kinda thought that was funny. And I kinda thought it resembled the Jewel thing with the radio. It wasn't until Jewel was played in the radio that phones started ringing and requests started coming in! So this little anecdote resembles this situation, and the situation in my country, Peru. Jewel is hardly played in the radio here in Peru. But when she is played she IS played A LOT. I remebered at the start of 1999 a radio station in Peru passed Hands like 7 times a day... and this radio station was a Rock station (they always pass Limp Bizkit, Korn, and such male bands). I also remember that in another radio station, Foolish Games was one of the top songs... but that was a lot months after it was released as a single... and I do mean A LOT TIME AFTER!!! The main newspaper in Peru even wrote a review of Spirit, and it was a really great review! This is a huge step for South American fans... Jewel is slowly beginning to be heard... just like it happened in USA... Remember? Pieces Of You's best moment was like in 1997!!!! Two years after its release!!! And Spirit success was even faster... PLATINUM IN ONE DAY... come on... but, how often do you see that happening? And then you say she is not recongnised? I remember going to the States last October and (as I only had Spirit and POY) I bought every single CD I could find on Jewel... and Spirit posters were hanged in the record stores... It doesn't matter if Jewel is not passed on radio stations... that's their problem... we all know that when Jewel is passed on the radio there is usually a good response from the listeners! So just put on your fav. Jewel CD or Angelfood and listen to her... you don't need to hear her on the radio! See her on TV... I see she's always on Talk Shows (Leno, Letterman, Conan)... I swear I have nerver seen an artist appear in a talk show so many times! Go see her live... take advantage of your location... I only wish Jewel will someday tour South America!!! Why do you want to hear her on the radio if you can see her live, which is 100000000000000000000000000000000 times better!!!! ...maybe, if I'm lucky enough... there would be a Jewel concert in the states around July 2001... because I may be travelling to the states again around this date... Well, just my thoughts :) Take care angels, Mirko *the peruvian angel* Yahoo! Shopping - Thousands of Stores. I forgot that people with such a beautiful voice, and so obviously talented, are only allowed to sing one kind of genre of music, and GEESH imagine the gall of her to sing Christmas music AT Christmas time, where does she get the nerve? She's not a "Christmas" singer! How dare *anyone* who sings a certain genre of music bring out a Christmas album unless they sing Christmas music all year! Christmas superstar? I'm sorry, that's one of the silliest things I've ever heard, and it makes me laugh. It's like you're saying that Jewel changed herself, as if she'd never *ever* sang a Christmas carol before she was famous. >who as much as i love, just isn't cool, and the image she >presents and evrything about her promotion is something that appeals more >to my mom then me. Last time I checked, Jewel wasn't making music for specifically a *young* crowd. There are *lots* of people on this list whom are 30+ and "parents", perhaps even the majority of the list. Fans are fans in my opinion. I'd be more upset if she only did promoting that appealed to teeny-boppers and the like. She plays music to be enjoyed by all ages, period, so of course she's going to promote it to older people as well, especially her Christmas CD since it's more likely to be bought by older fans. > she did sell out, and i know this is an old > argument on this board. but it is true If it's such an old arguement, why bring it up? and if you are going to make such glaring accusations, why not back them up with some reasoning other than "but it is true"? Last time I checked singing Christmas music didn't make someone a sell out. Everyone from Run DMC to Elvis has sang Christmas music, because there's no reason that you *can't* sing Christmas music. It's not like Eminem suddenly singing country music or something. Christmas music is something almost *everyone* enjoys at this time of year, whether they are usually hardcore rap fans or country music fans or whatever. That's kinda what this time to the year is supposed to be about... ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 02 Dec 2000 00:01:33 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] FWD: JeweLink: December 1, 2000 Here is the latest issue of JeweLink, directly from Jewel's "people", if you want to get a copy of this directly as each issue comes out, you can sub- scribe to it by sending a blank email to join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com ******************************************** JeweLink - The Official Jewel Communications List ******************************************** Seasons Greetings, Chuck here from JMerch. As we prepare for the holiday season, I just wanted to take the time to mention some current JMerch happenings. First and foremost, our new holiday items are in stock and being shipped at this time. The two new items for 2000, the Limited Edition Jewel Ornament/Lightcatcher and the 100% recycled glass candleholder are selling briskly. Last year, the 1999 Edition Ornament sold out quickly and many people were disappointed when they could not purchase one. Like the ornament, the candleholder seems to be a favorite with holiday shoppers and only about half of the initial inventory is left. There's also a "Holiday Spirit Special" assembled that includes four of the best selling items from the Spirit World Tour at an unbelievably low price. On a different note, JMerch is announcing its newly created Clearance Department at http://www.jeweljk.com/store/shophome.html, featuring many items at up to 75% off! We'd also like to congratulate Amparo Herrera from Texas, who wins the "A Night Without Armor" bookstore poster in our last www.jeweljk.com contest. Our new contest begins now. This time the prize is an autographed copy of Jewel's new book, "Chasing Down The Dawn." Stop by the contest page and enter for your chance to win!
