I don't if she is or isn't mean, but we can't really judge by what we see in just a small fraction of the time we actually see her. She may be really nice most of the time, but sometimes, when she gets tired, she becomes a little hateful, and I'm sure in retrospect she regrets it. So I just wish we would all kinda just focus on all the positive things Jewely does, cuz that's the reason I read the posts on this list, not to read how mean y'all think jewel is. It just makes me sad to read all of this... tom the "cactus" angel http://mypage.goplay.com/tippasaurus _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. It should be available in local libraries and/or bookstores (at least across North America ~ I bought my copy in Canada, but it's a U.S. release). The author has interviewed hundreds of tv and movie stars, musicians etc. and you can learn about all their experiences (that relate to the current thread on Jewel and her relationship with her fans). This book provides a rare glimpse into what it's like to be famous ~ especially in America. I'd start quoting from it, but then there's no point I'd want to stop. If you can find this book, read it. cheers, Adrian ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 19:39:29 EST From: Spirit1924@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Hey Angels! I saw love... You're probably wondering what I'm talking about, well...I was looking at a recent pic of Jewel and her eyes were still full of love, though it looks smaller than before she was famous, Jewel is still the sweet, strong, blond, songtress. Their had been many thoughts that fame had taken her, I was one of the ones who thought that. She did change b/c now she's used to being famous and I know if anyone one of you were famous that you would change abit too. I think that it's rude for Jewel not to greet her fans that much anymore, but soon she will realize and will change. She's still Jewel, but is now also a girl that's used to fame. Thanks for your time. And also to the 2 people I was VERY rude to (ya'll know who you are) I am saying sorry for my 3rd time, b/c I am SO SORRY and feel really guilty ~Kristin~ *The East Coast/Independent Angel* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 18:46:14 CST From: "Kris Tetzlaff" Subject: [EDA] thanxgiving and all... very simple, very easy: 1) whoever originally posted about meeting Jewel is selfish (not Jewel) for wanting more. i consider it privelage enough just to see her perform live, in the flesh. 2) lack of appendages and braving the cold for a few hours does not make one more deserving of getting an autograph. we're all equal; we all love jewel the same. 3) let's not judge a person (i.e. Jewel) based on a practically anonymous email. those who think ill of Jewel and publically post it (with no sure basis of truth) are ignorant. Being thanksgiving week and all, let's just be thankful for the perpetual gifts Jewel has given us...her music, poetry, and so much more. To those unwilling, get over it! - -KRIS PS...i can't believe Steve Poltz is 40!!! unreal. Okay.. so my first job when I was a young 'n was workin at Del Taco. People came in and bought food. I worked the cash register. They paid me, I put it in the drawer, and at the end of the week, I got some of that money. Now, I was making money off of the customers, but do you REALLY think that I owed the customers anything? If they ran into me one day at the mall or something, would I owe them to say hi and go and play nice nice? Off the clock? Come on. About the whole responsibility and honor and role model thing that celebs are forced into.. I really don't think that's appropriate. People look up to celebs as role models (for what reason, I have no clue) for who they think they are. Why should the celebs be forced into a mold that the public THINKS they are? I believe that if you're going to have someone for a role model, you accept the bad with the good or, damn it, choose a different role model! Having had my mailbox full of all this "Jewel is Mean" I think that she is just a singer/songwriter, although a very good one how also does other stuff such as the books etc, she is not perfect although weather she should sign stuff and all that after, a show is of course up to her is much easier to do that kinda thing when you only have a small audience than a big stadium, although i have seen other artist eg celine dion who fake the being nice to fans bit which is not much better John ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 21:26:21 EST From: F8thnJEWEL@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] setlist for online concert << Does Anyone Believe In Love? Give me a break. My opinion is that it wasn't quite honest to duck out a side door and yes it makes sense. >> First off, you guys were waiting outside at the SIDE door. The dang Jewel bus was in the back. Why would she go out through the side and then walk around to the back? That doesn't make very much sense. Driving by the crowd, I guessed that the waiting would be in vain, for if she was gonna give autographs, it would be to people who happened to see her through the back, that is, if one could sneak into the back area. So, i'm sorry, but i don't really feel sorry for you guys who watied. i think it's hilarious how jewel is so straightforward about how she feels. but also, a lot of the things she says is not seriously, it's just her sense of humor. please, don't take offense to what people say when you don't even know them. a lot of times, i get rude remarks from people, but i just blow them off. i understand that it can hurt for someone that you look up to, to blow you off, but don't take it that way. we truly do not know the the whole story of the cerritos thing. really, i wouldn't believe the security guards ... they know diddly squat. i didn't intend to join this convo, but i couldn't hold it back anymore. and for those who say, maybe steve (poltz) is a better person than jewel ... please don't think that. nothing against steve, for he truly is a nice person, but people are friends with people who are similar, so could jewel really be that bad? it's easier for steve to be friendly to his fans for he has less fans than jewel. steve works hard for his fans, but so does jewel. the exception is that jewel works on a larger scale ... also, these topics always come up time and again, and that's why i chose this email address when i first joined the list. it seems that people get disenchanted by their vision of who jewel is. jewel is jewel; she is not what we say she is. all my email address is saying is that i have faith in jewel - that she is kind and wonderful performer and i will always remember her message to the world (well, how i interpret her message anyway). one of my hopes to to one day meet jewel and get her autograph, but come on, i'm not gonna be pissed because i waited outside by a side door on a whim, hoping for the possibility of her coming out. that's not a very good chance, either ... so just calm down everyone ... remember that jewel is just one person ... meeting those fellow EDAs out there was a good thing right? so think of it as a good thing ... you guys who waited out in the cold sort of bonded and will remember each other as those who froze together on a cold november night. alright ... i've taken up a lot of people's time now ... later! ~elizabeth PS i'm so glad, we're not yelling at each other over this! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 22:27:06 EST From: Jamieangel1@aol.com Subject: [EDA] this is funny An enormous profit, that's really funny, Derrick. I am looking soooo hard to get copies of the Escondido show this past Wednesday and the San Juan Capistrano show from August. I would be willing to trade if there is something I have that you want or pay all costs or pay shipping and send blank tapes. If someone out there has it and doesn't have the Oxygen channel then I could trade you for the special Jewel show that will be on at the end of this month. :-) That is one option. Please get back to me if you have the Escondido show from Wednesday or the San Juan Capistrano show from August. Thank you very very much! :-) Steve ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #413 ***************************
