Not on the cover, as was stated in an earlier newslink e-mail I believe. Still waiting to see if she'll be in the new Self magazine coming up next month (as well as on the cover). She's also in the new Rolling Stone *book* called "Hot" Hardcover, 98% photos. One of Jewel. Pretty nice book, but a nice price too. MANY! during the australian tour she came outside the venue practically every concert (i read SO many reports about people meeting her).. and she was great. And people have emailed me (in response to my last post) saying when they met her she was really really nice. and yes there were REPORTS she was a bitch during ride with the devil.. but along with those reports came reports from tobey maguire AND ang lee coming to her defense. in the EW article tobey maguire SPECIFICALLY said that he was "getting in jewel's corner" if all that crap got into the press. all the "reports" are rumours and tabloid stories.. and the actual workers on the film (ie actors and director) have done NOTHING but defend jewel. also - at least one EDA wrote to the list after EVERY concert last year (practically).... so it's likely that ANY instances of bad behaviour on jewel's part would be reported. steve ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 01:19:38 EST From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Re: jewel-digest V5 #408 In a message dated 11/18/00 11:45:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, owner-jewel-digest@smoe.org writes: > Hey Sparks if your gonna quote me Please use the Whole thing..... But if she is not down with her Fans! her homies, the people that > KEEP her employed, then she is Nothing.....Nothing with out us..... > > > Just a little thought....... > > kevin... =) it's these kinds of comments that IRRITATE me. her job is to SING. her job is to make records! her job isn't to come outside after every concert she does and sign autographs. she does do that.. .quite often actually... but why do we hold it against her when for ONE night she doesn't come and do it. we buy her cd's because we LIKE her music.. not because we want to make jewel jewel. i don't care if she's jewel or just some chick who writes books.. i like her music because it appeals to my cheesy "cries during hope floats" side (and she's actually a decent songwriter when she tries.. and she can sing)... but that does NOT mean i expect her to come and see me and spend time with me and recognise me. i mean i went to see her concert at the air canada centre.. and i like.. jokingly tried to bribe a bunch of ushers into letting me meet her.. and of course i didn't EXPECT her to come and meet me - who would? it was just a joke. she has millions of fans.. she can't meet everybody. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Nov 2000 00:11:05 -0800 (PST) From: kevin maguire Subject: Re: [EDA] the whole autograph thing What your saying is part true....Jewel would still be Jewel that grew up and had her past, and was raised the way she was.... but she wouldnt be the person she is today....just think about Old school Jewel, inviting people to come see her, handing out flyers, makeing the flyers her self, and tapes and drawing on them, etc etc..... If WE the People didnt dig her so much, she would still basicly have the same heart, and maybe wrote the same songs after being famous, but probable not, she would have been thru different situations, if she never got big, there would be no Sean Penn, No spirt world tour, No Jmerch, no HGH, No clearwater project. etc etc. I agree she for the most part would still be Jewel Kilcher.... but with Fame and Money, comes power, and you Do Change as a person. If Jewel never got big, maybe she would be like Old school Jewel, doing things for the Fans, for the music for the Chance to play and just to have people come and listen to her, just for her to be able to sing and interact with people....remember the Jewel that did 3 to 4 hour sets in the coffee shop. I do think in a small part jewel owe us, or all celbs in general. They are making money off us, that is the bottom line...if it dont make DOLLARS it dont make Sence... If we are not into the celb. then they are just commen people for the most part, no Freebies, no photo shoots, no Mag. covers, no big checks, no world wide vacations, If she didnt want the fame, didnt want the money the power the recognition. She didnt have to sign a record deal. She could be just Jewel a girl that lives in her Van, who loves to play in coffee shops, and is doing what she loves, and making friends, and building relationships. Anyways this is getting too long. There is a responisibility and an honor and role model status for being famous, not just talking like your a good person, doing some good things, and deep down in side your lying to your self and the world....kinda like that sleazy President Clinton. But i do understand that she could be tired, and all that so i am not knocking her, but still Celbs should do more for the people that put them there.... she could have signed books in NY last month, she can throw an EDA concert.. what ever. Well this is just my thoughts....and i wrote a lot of stuff...so i am too lazy to proof read, but i think i said things the way i wanted too..... Also Sparks are you a Christian? you meantion God offten, about Jewel still being the person he meant for her to be, also in your email about Wendy..... Just wondering brother....
