Now, EDAs are coming out from hiding in their air conditioned holes to search out other EDAs, and here's your chance to join us. Because, here comes another Big Ass Texas Gathering! Besides seeing old EDA friends, Luna Taylor will be playing a Living Room Concert, we'll be gathering warm blankets and winter clothes to be given to a local shelter, and of course, we'll be seeing the Rugburns. Here are the event details: Kristie Biggs, a fellow EDA, has graciously opened her house for a gathering Friday, November 3. The plan is for everyone to gather at her house Friday evening so we can all meet, talk, be merry, and perhaps discuss future events in the Houston area. The next day will be open, free to stalk Steve Poltz, adventures in Houston, or the impatient ones among us may be able to persuade Luna to bring out her guitar, which brings me to the next feature... Luna Taylor will be playing a Living Room Concert at Kristie's house either Saturday afternoon, or Sunday afternoon. If you missed Luna's tour last summer, I highly recommend seeing this show. Simply put, her voice is outstanding, her playing fantastic, and her lyrics are amazing. Once you've seen her play, you will be eagerly counting the days until later this year when her debut album will be released. This Living Room Concert alone makes the trip to Houston worth it, and we haven't even mentioned the Rugburns yet! For the admission of Luna's great show, we're asking that you bring warm blankets, or winter clothes, to be later donated to a local shelter. The winter winds of Texas are as cold as the summer sun is hot, and many people who suffered through the brutal summer without air conditioners will also be forced brave this winter without enough warmth. So let's pitch in and see if we can keep a few people warm this winter... Now, as several EDAs have posted, the Rugburns are touring, and they will be in Houston Nov 4th, and so in addition to gathering at Kristie's, and Luna's LRC, a bunch of us will be going to see them play at Continental Club. The show starts at 9 PM if I remember right, and unfortunately it will only be open for people 21 or over. There should be no need for me to sing praise to the Rugburns here, but if by some off chance that you've not heard their music yet, this is a really great, and fairly rare chance to see them outside of Southern California... So, after a night of seeing the Rugburns in Houston, we'll probably end up back at Kristie's for the night. Sunday Morning is probably going to coming too early for everyone, but being the hard-core EDAs we are, I'm sure we'll find something entertaining to do. If she hasn't already played her LRC that Saturday, we can hear Luna play.. (or even if she has already played, I'm sure she'll play us a couple of songs for the road =Þ ) And for the EDAs who are still crying for more Rugburns, and more EDA companionship, I'm sure there will be a convoy from Houston to Austin to hear the 'Burns play again in Austin at a club named Stubbs. So, there is a full three days of EDA fun! Come to it all, or come to part of it, but, dang it, let us see your smiling face. So, if you live within a couple of thousand miles of Texas, drop by and say howdy! =Þ Now, for the logistic details... Kristie lives in Porter, TX, which is actually slightly northeast of Houston, and so it should make for less traffic getting there for most of us. For of any of the EDAs that saw Jewel in Houston during the Spirit Tour, Porter is fairly close to where Jewel played, just slightly east. The area is very pretty around there. Kristie should be posting soon to tell us what time Friday she would like us to invade her house, =Þ and the exact address, but for now here is a link to mapquest, and the map should show where Porter is in relation to Houston. http://www.mapquest.com/cgi-bin/ia_find?link=btwn/twn-map_results&zoom_level=5&uid=ucud06v3v2n8u3qe:ra567sdw7&SNVData=3mad3-g.fy%28a7nu0a_%29f8l1fr%3bah7-%3d%3aWi4js8%3dJO_%3dGG_l62210%28.h4alhw%28l%241w-u Kristie can be reached at KristieBiggs@bankunited.com. Nov. 14, Champaign, the High Dive Check out these shows. Sure to be memorable nights! Also, while I have you, I wanted to encourage everyone who can to support the ongoing EDAFoundation efforts. We're thrilled many want to continue supporting the EDA/Clearwater Project in Gualsea as the annual "gift project" for Jewel,(and we're working on making that easier) but we also highly support the EDAF and the volunteer programs, clothing drives, foodbank work, etc they are encouraging over this coming holiday season. Several have written asking "Are we doing an HGH/CW project for Jewel or an EDAFoundation project this year?" I see no good reason to choose. Both are worthy of attention and involvement. The EDAF events have the added enjoyable element of meeting others. There's few things more fun than meeting some of the other charachters around here in person. The Living Room Gigs, such as the Texas one just announced and EDAFoundation volunteering efforts, are great ways to meet each other. I'll get back to you in a week or so on how best to direct EDA contributions to your Gualsea location and how we'll track EDA totals. In the meantime, please educate yourself at www.clearwaterproject.com. There's many new features, including a much more detailed look at the Gualsea watersite, which is dedicated to the EDAs, and brought to reality through your efforts last year. Thanks! Online Gossip column was posted this week.. I think it's quite amusing.. If all this was true, I wouldn't be that surprised.. Even though this week's isn't really that intriguing.. We all know she loves to cuss.. Jewel isn't just a romantic poet and wide-eyed yodeler, though that's what some people--including the songstress herself--would like you to believe. We've all heard the tale of how the gal went from living in a van to landing a record deal. Sweet, no? More like spicy, actually, according to a music scenester who's known the chick for some time. The real Jewel has little in common with the angelic image she and her handlers have cultivated. In reality, she's a horny wild thing and a devoted fan of the F-word. Now the racy intro line she fed to boyfriend Ty Murray suddenly makes a whole lotta sense, wouldn't you say?
