The main difference I have with the other two is in the title: they both have "shadow's play", that is, the play of a/the shadow. I'm sure there is more than one shadow, so it should be "shadows' play", that is, the play of (the) shadows. But I think it makes better sense as "shadows play", that is, shadows are playing. "In the darkness I can feel you [but I can't see you; all that can be seen are two shadows playing] Shadows play." This is a really sensuous song -- two bodies in the dark, no words because words aren't necessary, communication is by feeling each other's bodies, and love is play. And an echo of "Last Dance Rodeo": "And tangerine lips and lily-white breasts, these things are eternal, inside them humanity rests." That is, the essence of humanity is the physical beauty and pleasure of love; that's what is eternal. Same message here, I think. It's a beautiful love song, with such a sensuous, haunting rhythm that I find I can't get out of my head after I've listened to this song. Shadows Play Kiss me now and take me down, my love. Open up the tender flower of love. Like a bird, you'll feel my heart inside, Beating with the rhythm of the tide. I'll raise my mouth, just like a glass, you'll drink: Tangerine lips and water deep. Rising up, I feel that ancient song Playing to the rhythm of the dawn. Oh, I feel what you're saying When words aren't in the way. In the darkness I can feel you. Shadows play. Strange how now I'm jealous of the day, As the dawn carries you away. But when night time spreads its starry wings, For you alone I sing. Oh, I feel, oh, I feel what you're saying When words aren't in the way. In the darkness I can feel you. Shadows play, Shadows play. Anyway- the previews showed that they were going to be talking about Jewel's new book, so of course I stayed on that channel. I know National Enquirer is a cheap tabloid show, but they gave Jewel's book the worst review! I mean they were so rude with it. One comment that stuck out was "you know, we really tried to read 'Chashing down the dawn' cover to cover, but sadly we found ourselves fast asleep after only seven pages." blah... stupid journalists. He later commented that if the Europeans back in the day had the book, they would burn it. The following is a repost from Mr BB August 18, 2000 - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi all, I have some great news for you today, that we wanted to send exclusively to all EDAs. I'm sure most of you remember last winter, when so many of you raised almost $5,000 for HGH/Clearwater as a Christmas gift to Jewel. And we all know you made the difference when Jewel won the "Smooch For A Cure" $25,000 grand prize for Clearwater Project, several months ago. Many of you are wondering what the next steps would be and how things are going. Wonder no more, because I deliver this message directly to you from the Clearwater Team. Read on and then enjoy your weekend! MrBB *************************************************** It's been awhile since you've received an update on our progress with the Clearwater site funded by the participation of so many of you in the EDA community. Between the individual donations sent to us directly and your participation with Smooch for a Cure, we have had $30,000 set aside in a bank account specifically earmarked for a site that would be dedicated to the EDA's. In the beginning we were hoping to do a site in the U.S., but we have found that difficult to carry out. The number of approvals required in the U.S. for a site can take more than 2 years to get underway. And we have requests coming in from other parts of the world where clean water is so very critical to the health and well being of the people. Shane Kilcher, along with scientists and engineers working with Clearwater, have recently embarked on a trip that includes Honduras, Tanzania (in Africa), Kerala (in India), and Bangladesh. They have already completed their stay in Honduras and there is a wonderful opportunity to assist the people of Gualsea, Honduras. (Honduras is on the East side of Guatamala, which is just South of Mexico.) We have learned that key to the success of Clearwater sites is that the community requests this kind of assistance and is organized such that it will carry out the project on a long-term basis. The people of Gualsea initiated the request for assistance and have already formed a Water Committee which has obtained the necessary government approvals for this project. All that is needed now is funding! The funding for this project is planned to be implemented in two stages. The first stage will cost $30,000 and the second stage will cost approximately $35,000 and will be sent sometime next year. Depending on weather conditions, the timeline for the project is approximately 1 1/2 years and is more extensive than sites we were considering in the U.S. However, we plan to send the initial $30,000 next week so this project can get underway! Our plan is to dedicate this site to those of you who made a difference with raising the $30,000, as well as to all of you who have contributed in ways beyond measure to your family, friends and community. It is our experience that people in other countries are amazed that people who have never met them care about the quality of their lives and raise money for these kinds of projects. We plan to present the people of Gualsea with a plaque in both English and Spanish (Spanish is their native language) acknowledging that this project was made possible by the Every Day Angels and Higher Ground for Humanity. Once the rest of the team returns from their travels, we will be updating the entire Clearwater web site and devoting a page to this project so you can have access to more detailed information and pictures. You are an inspiration to us and we thank you! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Oct 2000 23:43:54 EDT From: PiecesofKate34@aol.com Subject: [EDA] *jewel gift angels, i already sent this idea to a few interested people about the jewel gift.. but i guess i'll send it to the list to get more feedback,, Wesllow had the idea of doing a collage.. im not sure what of.. but this is what i was thinking (this may be a dumb idea) but pictures --photography--of nature and stuff. or atleast different water b/c this is the Clearwater project. I have another idea too.. i thought it would be cool if everyone on the list wrote their names.. not huge or anything.. but write their names on paper and send them with their donation through the mail to wherever we will send it.. i think it would be really personal and we could cut and glue/photocopy/whatever, all the names to the card..and that could be the background...all the names... a collage of jewel fans you know people say that their handwriting reflects their personalitites..plus everyone could make sure to have their name. anyway thats a few ideas to start with for now.. anyone else let me know what you think katie *the theater angel* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Oct 2000 01:00:14 EDT From: Wendy765@aol.com Subject: [EDA] NJC i need a quote! does anybody know any quote from jewel or anyone else (preferably jewel, but it doesnt matter), that is about leaving and missing somebody? im moving soon and i wanted to make my friends something to let them know how much they meant to me and how much i would miss them, blah blah etc etc... but my mind is blank... if anyone has any ideas, i would appreciate it! thanks, wendy ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #364 ***************************
