Obviously, the presence of mentsruation would say that this person is a female. Secondly, why the hell does it matter if they are gay? What does using the "Ah" have to do with it? My brother and my best friend are gay, and neither one of them types like that. What a stupid and stereotypical for someone to say. It is not even your business to ask that question. If they are gay, then it is their own business, and it is up to them if they want to reveal it to the list. And personally, I wouldn't think about coming out to this list, because the majority of the people on this list, with few obvious exceptions, are shallow and spiteful people, who would probably start a whole gay-bashing conversation. I am not happy with the list the last six months or so. Everyone has forgotten what EDA stands for, and until they re-realize that, it's going to continue to be a really depressing list to read. I posted a little bit ago about how I thought that most of the people on the list are shallow and spiteful people. I must take that back. There are exceptions, of course. All the people I met at Bearsville were wonderful people. But something was pointed out to me just now in a personal email, and here it is, directly: Many people who are kind wonderful people on this list do not post frequently, and it is a small amount of people who keep posting angrily. If you keep track of the posts in the last few months, the majority of them are done by the same 20 people. I am sorry I did not specify that I was only speaking of the EDAs that post frequently, that add fuel to the already raging fire on the list. I am aware that there are MANY EDAs that it seems never post, and it is an unfortunate thing. I think if more kind-hearted EDAs would post, it might drown out the stream of unfriendly posts there are. So to those who were offended deeply, I apologize, although I do hold fast to saying that the EDAs that do post, and post rather nastily, it should stop sooner than later, or we will find that the wonderful, silent but not forgotten EDAs will not be on the list anymore. If you hadn't noticed, some people have already left the list because of all this fighting. It's not fun anymore. Everyone loves a joke and a good laugh, but it is a fine line between joking and seriously hurting people's feelings. Just keep that in mind when you post publicly. I just want to remind folks that when posting to the list, if your post has nothing to do with Jewel, for the benefit of the 1,800 people on this list, PLEASE use the acronym NJC in the beginning of your post. It stands for "no Jewel content". It helps those that do not want to read the "NJC" stuff or perhaps want to read it later. (many folks use filters to organize their email and the NJC in the subject aids in that). 90% of todays posts had no Jewel content and very few, if any posts had "NJC" in the subject. Also, if you reply to a post that has/had Jewel content but your reply to the list does not, please add the NJC to the beginning of the subject yourself. By the way, it is NOT necessary nor desired to add "JC" to your subject for posts WITH Jewel content, as all posts really shoud be considered Jewel content unless otherwise noted. Firstly I was wondering if any artistic angels (good at drawing, painting, photography etc) could write to me or post the list if you would like to be involved. If there are enough of you perhaps you could form a 'design' team and discuss ideas via e-mail. Hopefully this will work out as well as last year. Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you soon. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I was fortunate enough to catch an advance screening of "Pay It Forward," the new Mimi Leder film starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, and Haley Joel Osment. I've never been affected by a movie to this degree in my life. I can't even describe how it made me feel, but I can tell you what it made me think: it made me think about this list. It made me think about what this list *should* be and what this list seems to have become. I don't want to go into my opinion on the sniping and the hurtful words that've been whizzing past like darts lately; I would just be repeating what so many have already stated. And that doesn't help. But -- and perhaps I'm just being overly optimistic here -- I believe this movie might help. And that's what made me walk home so quickly: I wanted to share it with you. As a song played over the final scene, I thought instantly of Jewel's EDAs. This list. The people on it. What we say we stand for. What we want to do for our neighborhood, our country, our world.. each other. The title of that song? "Calling All Angels." Appropriate, I thought. Maybe I'm being melodramatic. Maybe I've allowed myself to be manipulated by a well-crafted film. Maybe this email won't make a difference... but I'm hoping it will. I feel that the filmmakers have done me that first favor by creating this movie for me to watch, and I want to "pay it forward" by asking one simple thing of all of you. Go see this movie. For those of you in the US, "Pay It Forward" goes into wide release this Friday, the 20th. In the Netherlands, it comes out on December 14th; in Germany, December 28th; in the UK, January 12th, 2001; and in Denmark, January 19th. If you can see this movie, do so. And if you're affected by it like I was, tell someone. Tell someone you care about to go see it -- heck, *take* them to go see it. I know exactly who I'm taking with me when I visit my hometown this weekend. Just... make it a point to see this movie. And, if you're so inclined, pay it forward. - --Jessica ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V5 #358 ***************************
