A lot of her recent performances were excellent from what I could gather. Some were mixed a bit in my opinion, but so what? I had a pretty bad day at work Tuesday. Almost felt like telling my boss "don't bother paying me for today, I don't deserve it". Wednesday was a lot better, Thursday I digressed and today was my best day in weeks. I am human, you are human, Jewel is human. We have our excellent days, our good days, our so-so days and our poor days. Giver her credit for her good and excellent performances, and I'll give you credit for your good and excellent posts, neither of which today belong in those categories. (Post #1 was a so-so IMO, this one I am replying to was just a rehash of what you basically posted a year ago. A rerun. The new network television season started this month....why not some new material from Mr Hooks? I happened to really enjoy Jewel's performance last night. While it wasn't a typical Jewel song, I'd like to say that she continues to prove what an incredible artist she is. Jewel can sing anything... any type of music... and not only can she pull it off, but she will leave you with your mouth wide open on the floor in awe of her talent. And that's how I was last night. In Awe. I do have to say, that these late night hosts can not interview Jewel to save their life! Please.. someone... give her an intellectual interview that is thought provoking because last night's banter was painful. And the fact that Letterman didn't interview her at all... I know this has been discussed on the list plenty.. but how annoying! One of my deepest ongoing regrets having been running or co-running this list now for almost 4 years, is I really do hate being "list cop", so to speak. This goes for both the unmoderated periods and the nearly three year moderated period that just recently ended. Don't get me wrong, while I get complaints, I also get more than a fair share of praise. I appreciate it too, I really do :-) While I don't always acknowledge the praise with a reply, I deeply appreciate it.....just too modest at times to reply.....you know, kinda like a blushing "aw shucks". The trouble is, being the "list cop" (for lack of a better term at the moment), is unfortunately a necessity. So I try my best. I am not perfect at it, made more than a few mistakes along the way (as expected and understood, I would hope) and I am not 100% consistent at it, at least on the surface to many of you....but I try my best. Although, I do have to say that while some of you may think I am at times inconsistent (especially so during the moderated period), there are quite often posts that came in breaking new territory that fuel the sometimes "illusion" of inconsistency (gosh, I hope that reads the way I intend). None the less, at times some of you write me when you think I made a bad call, and I do welcome it too. Another unfortunate side-effect at this is when I go to "EDA gatherings". I feel real guilty, at times painfully so. Often, I sit there at these things, looking at all the wonderful people there....real people (even Dennis ;-), and think to myself "who the hell am I to say what these people can or cannot say on the list?". Again, deep down I know it's necessary, but it still is troublesome to me often enough. Just wanted to get this off my chest. Hi EDA's, I read somewhere in on of the digests that Jewel was recently on the cover of an american issue of In Style. Firstly, is this true? And what month was she on? I ask because I have found a newsagent here in Sydney that sells heaps of American mag's and she said if I could find out which month she could order a back issue for me. Also, is anyone else having problems with the pictures at www.jeweljk.com? Sometimes when I click on one of the smaller pictures on the right, a totally different picture comes up. Its happening at the moment, the second last picture, the one of the guy holding a camera comes up as Jewel and Steve singing. Its still a nice photo, just kinda frustrating. I certainly didn't mean I would automatically like everything she did. What I meant was that I'd be open to whatever changes of direction her music and writing might take. Some people on the list seem to have very closed minds to Jewel being different from their stereotyped image of her. If Jewel moves in a new direction, I'm happy to follow along and see what it's like: it may appeal to me, it may not, but I'm not going to refuse to follow along, saying that her changing direction is ipso facto bad or wrong. Jewel herself described such an attitude as bigoted. And there are some bigots out there, on both sides. Uncritical praise is just as bad as unthinking criticism.
