I missed Juel!! Hi guys!! I had to wake up early today and I turned to CBS and gee, who do I find but our dear Juel. She was being interviewed and had already sung. I'm so pissed at myself for not remembering! You guys, what song did she sing? Was it one of her newer songs? Ugh. But it had been such a long time just hearing her voice at all, so I'm glad that at least I got to see the interview, or part of it. I didn't know she liked Meryl Streep. That was interesting to know. Did she talk about her book, too? She probably did, didn't she? I didn't like the way she was leaning onto the piano, but at least I thought she was wearing killer clothes. :) Hope you guys are having a good day, and happy Yom Kippur to all the Jewish fellas (is it supposed to be happy??) ===== ~*Liz*~ the Misplaced Angel HARMLESS & SHAMELESS PLUGS (if you can, check 'em out!) She's in there what seems every other issue, and they never have anything nice to say.. They rip her music, her books, her movie, her.. Even on her cover issue, they made her out to be the devil.. Which might be contributed to a bad day to have an interview for her, but still.. Anyway, in the Books section this week, accompanied by a caricature: DIARIST OF THE WEEK Jewel The pop star/poet has penned a book of journals, Chasing Down the Dawn. In one entry Jewel writes, "Self-expression begins and ends with the soul." Sounds to us like she's playing a foolish game. Anyway, no review of the book this week.. We'll see next week.. There's a lot of Alaska in it, you transport yourself to this place in your mind if you have a good inmagination, there's a little of Ty there too, she's completely in love with him. A lot of insight to the cowboy life, even though I'm an animal's right activist, I totally respect that profession and culture(though I rather take some really bad criminals from an institution and chase, rope, castrate and mark them with fire hot steel instead of defenseless creatures..) I'm not a veggeterian and I do understand the need to kill animals in order to preserve the food chain, as long as it is done in a painless way with no abuse, though I wouldn't have the heart to kill anything ,even if my own surviving were at stake, but thank God I'm not in that situation :) The book has no chronological order to it, you jump from Alaska to Kuala Limpur in 2 pages, from her being a teenager to her being 26 shooting some targets with Ty. A lot about how her parents divorce affected her and her sibblings and her relationship with her father through the years. Anyone will certainly enjoy this book and the way it was put together it's marvelous, credit to the editor and publishers too. This morning I caught her appearance in the "Early Show" on CBS and she sang a beautiful song, very Jazzy and smooth in that way, then the anchor started throwing questions at her , and it seemed to me that she was almost uncomfortable with the questions, since right now seems she hasn't decided wich direction to take with her career and most of the questions were about what is she doing and what does she plan on doing, it seemed she doesn't have the answers to those questions yet. It's ok, I guess she will have them soon. In the meantime I just enjoy her writing and her singing , she is a very amazing person and most of all she is just a person..she doesn't have to have the answers all the time , it's better for me that she's honest than look or sound fake with all of the rest of her life planned out. Makes her more real than the other artists out there, I like that. take care Lucky Angel. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Oct 2000 15:49:30 EDT From: Fredsteve@aol.com Subject: [EDA] my offer hi everyone a lot of people have been asking me if they can have the letterman song for another jewel song.. but what i'm really after is the saturday morning song. i really really want to hear this song. i would be happy to send anybody the song for free.. but i wanna wait until somebody who has recorded saturday morning is willing to trade with me. then i can make both songs available to everybody. bye steve ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Oct 2000 16:31:10 -0700 From: "~*~Sandy~*~" Subject: Re: [EDA] new song + tonight show > they say her Access Hollywood appearances > will air tonight (saturday). they also say she's appearing on the tonight > show on the 12th of october.. that isn't listed on the official website. is > this correct? I always though Access Hollywood also came on a channel I get, but apparently it doesn't because I can't find it in my guide other than a channel I don't get, because I don't pay money for it :) Anyways, the reason for this reply was that yes, she will be on the tonight show, I'm not certain if it's on the 12th though, but during Letterman last night while waiting for her, (I never though Magic Johnson's interview would end, then I swear there were 12 or 13 commercials in between him saying "Jewel next when we come back" and her appearing, no exaggerations, I kept thinking, "Okay THIS IS IT, she's NEXT". It took 7 minutes of commercials here, it was really weird!) Anyways, babble aside, I flipped to Leno, and he was announcing his guests for the next week, and he mentioned Jewel. I meant to mention it on the list when I found out, but it slipped my mind :) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Oct 2000 16:33:50 -0700 From: "~*~Sandy~*~" Subject: Re: [EDA] Saturday Morning Early Show I wish I'd just gotten up and made sure, because I couldn't find a listing for the Saturday Show or Saturday Today or Weekend Today (which for some reason were the only names of the show I could find), so I decided it must not air here for some weird reason, and I'm sure it did now. In all seriousness though, yes it is good to venture in new > musical directions every now and then, but the whole African-influenced thing > is tough to pull off for a white girl from Alaska. At least she's playing > guitar again. I wasn't super crazy about the song either, but man, I have to say, I don't think she's trying to be anyone. I sure wouldn't have pulled out Paul Simon's Graceland and Tina Turner out of that. Where did you get a Private Dancer feel from that??? :) I thought was interesting, and I don't think she was trying to pull it off looking or sounding African-influenced, regardless of what african-influenced type things (I'm sick excuse my poor excuse for a sentence lol) she used in the song. I think she was trying to create something more unique with the feel of the song, not something that necessarily seemed/sounded African. > And she looked fine(not tawdry as someone else's post recently implied, > would you people be happy if she started wearing burlap sacks perhaps), not > an offensive amount of make-up as in the past. And the red dress was pretty, > but again, a little too Tina Turner and her hair a little too Farrah Fawcett. > But her appearance is of little importance although it is often overanalyzed > here. I agree with you, I thought she looked fine as well. I mean, come on, she's not dressing in red-spandex-oops I did it again Britney outfit :) So I really don't think anyone should be however subtly impling that it was slutty. When she wears things that are sexy, they aren't slutty-revealing sexy. I think she pulls it off nicely. Very little makeup and simple hair, it shows how she's beautiful without overdoing it and being made up. As for the Tina Turner thing again, I don't see it as being tina-ish. I'll give you Farrah, but I actually like her hair like that :) > No one seems to know what the song was yet. For some reason she(Atlantic > Records I prob'ly should say) had Letterman promore the Joy CD along with her > new book. She didn't get to talk, just the quick performance. Which, if you > ask me, makes little sense. I thought so too, that it didn't really make sense. Perhaps Magic just took up all her time though, and there was supposed to be an interview. The reason they had her sing instead of an interview if she couldn't do both because of the time, was probably because he needs to have a musical guest on the show (well not needs, but is expected to/supposed to). If that's not the case, then I can't understand it, and it surprised me as well, as to why she would perform a song instead of promoting her book, which I thought was the purpose of these TV appearances. You said you'd rather have her talk, but personally, I like the best of both worlds, I'd like to see her talk about her book, and sing if she has the chance! I'm not sure why the promoting of Joy - I guess just because it's getting close to Christmas again. It's nice to see her on TV again, it's been a while. ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Oct 2000 16:10:58 CDT From: "Kris Tetzlaff" Subject: [EDA] jewel dance remixes? hey i recently downloaded a legit "hands" dance remix...it's crazy. i know there's a "foolish games" remix sung by Gem. Also, she hopes you enjoyed the music and she's sorry there was no interview on Letterman. Why some of you like Serve the Ego and others don't is just a matter of personal preference. The song is a new type of music for Jewel and is mesmerizing with the keyboard and the rhythm. Personally, it was my first time hearing the song, and I thought it was amazing.
