I'm going to say the same thing to you that you said to us, if you don't what we are saying don't read it. Don't stand on your pedestal and be hypocritical, okay? > I think the way, he or She types "AH" instead of "I" is very >expressive for the Internet How so? So that people can't read things without having to reread it over again and replace every "Ah" with I, so they can understand? Yeah, that's really expressive. Besides the fact that no one said "STOP DOING IT", I was just asking WHY he did it. > and I can't believe some of the things you guys >can bitch about these days.... If your having trouble reading his/her post >then skip it, I already addressed this. >I on the other hand, think its cute how he or she types... I >have a habit of typing incorrectly on purpose sometimes, because I feel it >brings character into my email.... Typing incorrectly, and replacing whole words with little words that are "your own" aren't the same thing. How about we all make up our own words and replace them? Flook Mad Uh Dart Hmmmgollbon Oh, I'm sorry, I guess you couldn't understand it since I was making those words up. >Maybe he or she is tired of being compared to someone like you... Nobody was "comparing" anybody. Perhaps you should also be clearer about who the "you" you are refering to is. >maybe we >should all criticize you EVERY time you spell something wrong and make a big >thing about how you want attention... Once again, spelling something wrong is different than making up words to replace other words. I for one, didn't ever say he wanted attention, that was said by someone else, I'm not going to say they are wrong though. >Also: maybe he or she isn't American Oh yeah, and maybe he or she can talk perfect English besides that *one* word that they just never learned in English class right? Give me a break. >Maybe He/she has bad English or something, Oh wait, maybe that's kinda what we were getting at here... >why don't you PRIVATLY email them the >CORRECT way she says it, cuz god only knows she NEVER says it ANY other way. >And by golly, I'm sure Jewel would be so offended she might even want to >kick his/her butt for accidentally saying an extra word or 2 in her song.. All we did was politely offer the right quote at first. I wasn't the only one who has ever pointed out to him that he quotes her wrong EVERY SINGLE TIME HE QUOTES HER. Many people have privately emailed him and told him. No one said anything about Jewel kicking anyone's butt or being upset, but come on, this isin't like a one time quote mistake, which is why everyone *keeps* telling him, because he *keeps* quoting wrong, and it's not that hard to check things out to make sure you've got it right, is it? That's all I was saying, if you have the time to add the quote, you have the time to make sure it's right. and once again, I wouldn't want someone misquoting my words, and although I'm sure it's not a big deal to Jewel, he might as well try and get it right regardless. >Angel that's tired of anal people and so much for your whole "oooh lets be nice" bull crap. I think it's funny how you can call us "anal", yet pretend you are the "oh so nice person sticking up for others because people are so rude". Whatever. Subject: [EDA] clarification on the tape "thing" I'll comment on some other's opinions first, then sum up things for everyone still wondering about all this..... Jenni wrote: "Even though I do have a major lack in my collection, I would NEVER EVER EVER expect someone to send me tapes for free." Exactly my thoughts too! Neither would I. However, Wendy never expected anyone to send her anything for free. She simply asked this of others in the past since she was unable to send anything in return (for her own personal VALID reasons). No one was forced to do anything, and if they chose not to send something for free, then fine. No big deal. She never expected this, she merely *asked* this of others. then Jenni said.... "(Though, the reason i have those five tapes to begin with is because a kind angel DID send them free of charge). " Hmmm...now this is quite intesting, but I don't think I have to comment on this any further. "People do not have the means to do such trades. Many people on this list (including me), do not have jobs, and therefore, cannot afford tapes/equipment/postage. A note to all angels: please never expect tapes to be free. " You left out the word "some" at the beginning of this sentence. While many don't have the ability to do these sort of things (sending out tapes for free), there are SOME on this list who can, my guess would be quite a few. So my original letter was intended for those who would be able to. I thought this went without explaining, but I can see now that it needs explaining. OBVIOUSLY if you can't afford to do this, then simply, DON'T. That's easy enough. No one is making you, no one is expecting you, and no one will care if you don't. Totally a-ok. But if you CAN, then those are the people I was trying to reach out to. Such as Spenser for example. He can, and he is, so that's very cool of him. Thanks! Cymbie wrote: Hell, I can't even afford to buy my photography equipment/ camera accessories that i need for school. Um, "ok". Again, no one ever said you or anyone HAD to send out anything. It's totally your decision to. Wesllow wrote: "I actually think its quite funny that someone comes out that direct asking > for free angelfood, and not just one tape or anything but for at least 10 > people to reply" > I merely suggested that it would be "nice" IF maybe 10 people could reply to Wendy about this. That's not really alot considering there are thousands on this list! We're talking *less* than 1%!!! Think about it that way. And for more clarification, this angelfood isn't for ME. Yet, I was the one coming out and "direct asking" for it...hehe. For a friend of mine, Wendy. She did not ask, nor would, as she's already tried this and got little to no response. Therefore, I chose to do this hoping some of you would help her out to at least get some angelfood. "i mean not to burst your bubble but it would be nice for someone to make Cindy a tape but really people do have greater needs than help other peoples tape collections" Whose Cindy? "...and to ask for it like its being our obligations really sounds absurd" No one asked for this as an obligation. It's a choice...100%. If you interpret this as some sort of obligation, then I can't help that. I guarantee you if you ask a question to 100 people, you will get 100 different interpretations...that's something we can't avoid. Rowdy wrote: "There is nothing wrong with expecting a blank tape and postage if you're going to dub something for someone, and with the amount of dubbing Derrick does, I'm sure he will be the first to agree with that..." Of course there's nothing wrong with it, and while I don't "expect" people to send me a blank tape in return, I do suggest this as a means of compensation, if they can afford to, as most can. I have however, made some tapes for people with nothing in exchange, as I am going to for Wendy as well. But most of the time people can send out tapes with no problem so this issue never comes up. Then he said..."I think his biggest complaint (and one I somewhat agree with) is that it does seem that our little community is not as giving as it once might have been." Exactly. I wasn't trying to point this out really, because I just know that's how it is now...but that's ok. Again, I wasn't suggesting anyone to do anything they choose not to, or can't afford to. Some things that seem implied are often the very things that tend to cause confusion I guess. SO, I hope this clears up any possible confusion. If you decide to send Wendy a tape or two for free, then that's awesome! And I'm sure she'll really appreciate your generousity. But if you can't then that's fine too. There's no need to send flames to the list about it though. Just simply do "nothing". Isn't that easy enough? Save your time from having to type a letter. No one is forcing you to do anything, no one is making you do anything, so if you can't, then don't. I follow this rule as well in life. I don't do things I can't, or that would hurt me financially. So I'd never expect this of others either. BUT, if you can, then go for it! You'll be helping out a very special EDA and would be bringing happiness to a fellow list member. Something this list used to do quite often in the past. Any further comments on this should be addressed to me, NOT the list. While I appreciate what Mike is doing (loose moderation), I think some things are still better off in private e-mails. Derrick PS...I hope no one writes Wendy about all this, unless you're willing to offer a tape to her. The original e-mail to help her out was all my idea...she didn't tell me to. So e-mail ME if you have a problem with anything. And for those joining this thread late, if you'd like to send Wendy some angelfood, write her at wendy765@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 Sep 2000 19:41:36 GMT From: "Brooke Collins" Subject: [EDA] Never coming to Alaska Hey! I've never posted anything on here until now but now is as good a time as any! I'm from Palmer, Alaska (which is about 45 minutes from Anchorage) and I was wondering if anyone else out there was from Alaska too. And if you ARE from Alaska I was wondering how you feel about Jewel never coming back to Alaska. She seems to be proud to be from there but she's never really honored us with any kind of appearance. I love her but I still have to admit that it's disheartening to me. Especially after she cancelled this past Christmas. Like I said, I am a huge fan and I always will be! I was just curious about that stuff. Thanks! _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. This list is so funny. Since obviously it can't be taken seriously, with the exeption of the *few* posts that I actully learn something from, it serves, if for nothing less, a few giggles for my day. I mean honestly. Some (please notice I said SOME) people get so worked up over the most menial things in life. I bet these people have ALOT of stress in their life, even worse than me, which frankly: that's scary. If you would all learn to just take things for their face value. I mean, seriously. I am one of the most cynical people I know of and I am laughing at these things...If I can find humor in it, rather than all this angst and frustration, you should be able to as well... Come on folks. Learn to smile every once in awhile. Things in life or on this list, should not be about cat fights. Learn to laugh at what's funny and egnore what's "offensive". Hi all you EDA people, I've been more of a observer than a writer to this list(as this is only my second post and I've been on this list for two years), but I thought I'd say some stuff. First of all, cool...Jewel likes Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Californication". I knew her and Flea were buds (he appears on "Barcelona" playing bass), but I didn't think she cared about their music. Secondly, what type of cd should Jewel put out for her next one?, a rock, country, or a pieces of you-ish album? I would prefer a return to a 'pieces of you' or a rock type CD. I just want to see Jewel rock out with her guitar, electric or acoustic, none of that guitarless stuff. Thirdly, are their any Indiana EDA's on this list? Cause I'm a proud hoosier(go IU!) yay! Fourthly, I know some angels were talking about some unknown new artists, well I don't know any new, but there are some relative unknowns that have been around a while that I would like y'all to check out like the verve pipe's self titled cd(the one with the frog on it). they had a hit a couple years back called "freshmen", but anyway there's a cooler song on this one called "lala" it's neato. and if you're a guitar enthusisist(where's the spellcheck?) Slash's new CD called "ain't life grand" comes out oct. 10, it's just a good old rock CD. Fifthly, thanks for actually reading my post!! (It kinda got longer than I actually wanted) Tom the "cactus angel" http://mypage.goplay.com/tippasaurus ps. if that angel name's taken somebody tell me, por favor psII...(there's a such thing as a psII) what are some easy jewel songs to play on guitar? Ah really appreciate all the kind words!!! You guys are SO KEWL!!!! But Ah must say that Ah'm quite disappointed at those people who sent me some very nasty letters, even quite disturbing letters. :( My virgin eyes watered with tears of sadness when one letter contained the F word many, many times, and ended with a description of what would be done to me with a whip and a cockring!!!! What's a cockring?! Ah just hope that those people realize the error of their ways. But my other question is regarding Jewel's NEW CD!!!!! Ah hadn't heard a thing about this little treasure, but she came out with a NEW LIVE CD with NEW songs!!! Ah couldn't believe my eyes when my mama brought me my birthday presents today!!! After Ah carefully unwrapped a very nicely packaged box, there inside was Jewel's NEW CD called DDDelight!!!! Weeeee!!!!! Ah've been playing it over and over and over!!! :) Isn't this just the greatest CD?!?! And just to prove that Ah can get a quote right, there's a brand spanking new one below!
