He has been taking a lot of crap lately about what should or shouldn't make the list. I for one love that you have been allowing cursing (I never realized it wasn't) and that you've continued to publish this whole debate thing for those of us who do enjoy reading it, (this is way better that the 'Real World' LOL) and who oppose censorship on principle in general. As far as I know it is not a paid position, and obviously he dedicates at least an hour each day to read all our banter (he doesn't even get to just trash the flame mail like the rest of us can.) He even inserts useful moderator notes when appropriate (he located the RWTD website for me which was pertinent and useful.) All this on top of the fact that-if you remember-he had planned on taking some time off in the down period right before Jewel announced the new touring dates, but didn't for our sake. So thanks....Mike, I think. Or whatever you name is (sorry I'm really bad with names.) And thanks to all the peeps that silently put up with whatever other angels feel the need to say. :) And on an unrelated subject, I get to see Jewel for the first time in about 42 hours and 13 minutes. Expect a full report. On written with probably no sleep between now and then. :) Charles. The sullen, pensive angel. And good friends of the official "Benevolent Props Dispenser": Ibra Bordson. Hi Guys, > Jewel was fine with taping in the old days (and verbally openly so) when Absolutely, I clearly remember her saying "I hope someone's taping this - I'd lose a lot more songs if they didn't..." or something similar on a live recording. > she was playing the 50 to 300 person venues, however all indications I have > seen is that they are mum on the subject now-a-days. Which perhaps shows exactly how much artistic control Jewel retains? It's entirely possible to be a big star and not worried about taping, or indeed encourage it. Look at Grateful Dead, look at Pearl Jam (who released all of their live shows on CD), and other bands who have the courage to stand up to their management and get a good deal for the fans. They know that they're going to be bootlegged, and they'd much rather the fans get a quality product - surely that's not so hard to understand. I'm not going to dream of starting the whole "Has Jewel sold out?" debate - but it does give pause for thought if she hasn't the courage of her convictions... > So, what I THINK it all boils down to is that she personally probably > doesn't give a hoot if folks tape her shows, and PERHAPS even her immediate You know, I thought that at first, but Jewel's attitude toward things like photographs has apparently changed, and I wonder if it's the same with taping? Thoughtfully written songs, a great attitude live...all the things Jewel used to be. I hope that the relative lack of success of Spirit has shown Jewel that people liked the folky Jewel. I laugh when I see how the new fans only know the corporate, electric, big venue Jewel. I was lucky enough to see her with about 500 other people--most of whom were there to see the Tony Rich Project-- at Temple University. After the show, we all went around back and got to meet Jewel. I got my copy of Pieces of You signed that day, as well as a copy of the Wizard of Oz cd. The show, incidentally was wonderful. There were 30 or so EDA's, and we all hung out as a big group. Serena, a one time mom to the whole list, got Jewel to do Flower, which she promptly forgot the words to, and had to rely on the EDA's to mouth the words to the song. No setlist, just a bunch of EDA's yelling out songs from the front row and Jewel singing them. I truly hope that these shows are a move back to being a folk artist. I don't like the slick, polished Jewel. I liked the Jewel that played from the heart, and wasn't afraid to experiment with music. Spirit, IMHO, was just another pop album from just another pop artist...no different than picking up the latest Spice Girls effort(do you old list members remember the Spice Girls arguments on the list...what a hoot!), or grabbing a Cristina Aguilera CD. I hope the next album blows us away like Pieces of You did to me. I don't think I ever listened to a CD as much, and I know that I have never had a more revolutionary group of songs and ideas pumped into my head. Well, guess I'll let you all go... Patric... (too damn old to have an angel name;) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I won one of those free T-shirt from comcast. Unfortunately, I think they had 16 year old girls in mind when they made them. Cool image on the back, but my sholders don't quite fit comfortably into it. So, if someone (preferably someone going to Puyallup) wants it, I'd rather give it to someone who can wear it than store it. Also, I had some hats made. One is olive green and tan, the other is just olive green (looks more like forest green to me, but as a man I have very little credibility in that regard.) They read on the front: Contemplate the Color Yellow - Jewel (From her poem Road Spent-in the book-or To Be Alone-on the CD. I perfer the second title personally.) On the back: Everyday Angel Also free to peeps at the concert. (By the way, Jewel Poltz has first dibs on the t-shirt if she wants it since she's been kind enough to organize the EDA gathering at the show.) Charles The sullen, pensive angel.
