Throughout those two years, I have enjoyed reading what most of you have had to say about Jewel, music, and anything else that has come up. As of late, there has been a noticeable change in the discussions taking place through this list. I am not posting to whine about talking about things not having to do with Jewel. I am posting to whine about how the discussions have gone from informative and insightful, to people just out and out berating each other and their opinions. All of this is captured perfectly in the Dennis/Sean/"friend" bit. Now I can understand people being upset about various things, but to air one's dirty laundry to such an audience is inconsiderate and distasteful. As we all know, Sean is going to say things that are . . . well, questionable. But to respond with equal spite only gives him more reason to continue this pattern. Dear Fellow Angels, I must confess that I haven't been reading the EDA posts regularly- I've been swamped with homework and the what-not, and I haven't had that luxury of time. But this morning, I decided to read a couple of them. The first one I read was titled something like *Only Kindness Matters Jewel Listen! And this person started to talk about Jewel making fun of the Cranberries, and how she was a bad person now because she did that, and how she needed to shave her armpits or something, and I'm reading this like, "Wait a minute. What's happened? What's going on with you people???" First of all, I never even heard about this Cranberries thing. What's up with that? Did she make fun of them? (I can't imagine that she would...) And most importantly, what happened to everyone's faith in Jewel? I thought we EDAs were sticking together and admiring Jewel- that loving her and her music was what this organization was all about. When did we turn askew from this common focus? I just want to say a couple of things. Even if Jewel did insult the Cranberries, remember that NOBODY'S PERFECT. All of us have made fun of someone before- don't humor yourself to say you haven't. And to even fathom the comparison of Jewel (a gracious, spiritual being) to Eminem (a boisterous jackass) is the most retarded thing I've ever heard of. There's just no comparison. I'm surprised you could could stoop so low as to talk about her in this way. And once again, if Jewel is guilty of making fun of the Cranberries, I don't need to know all the details, because I'm not going to let it bother me. I've already forgiven her for whatever she's done. (I agree with Kevin who quotted the Bible- we should be "quick to listen and slow to get angry.") Jewel is simply a person. The song in question is OVER 4 years old. Jewel was doing it a bit while singing Pieces Of You in some of her 1996 shows, and perhaps even in 1995. (I am not sure of the 1995 part). (maybe someone with a better memory of that part of JewelStock can recall EXACTLY what she said, as it's not on the JewelStock tapes.)
