Subject: * The light has grown smaller or how I was touched by Mykle It occurs to me that any one that had contact with Mykle should pay his or her respects by sharing some experience that shows how much one person can touch, move, motivate, inspire, change another without anything other then who they are and the simple acts that they do. I have been on this list a long long long time, and i was part of the original Jewelstock tape tree. That is where i had a chance to make a set for Mykle. WE communicated by email and things went smoothly for his set of tapes. I then really didn't have any other contact with him. Then one day in 1997, July 1997 to be exact i received an envelope from Mykle. It was marked "photographs/do not bend". How do i recollect so clearly? I still have the envelope. Inside was a really amazing photo of the Hale-Bopp comet. I have it framed. I am now going to frame the letter that came with it. This letter was an explanation of why i had received the photo. I am going to type it here so you can all see, in his own words, what kind of person Mykle was. The begging part is all typed- EDA Appreciation Day July 18,1997 and everyday Thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you again! I am so very grateful for the list members just like you, and for you personally, that i am declaring Friday, July 18, 1997(and everyday for a week) to be my first annual EDA appreciation day!!! Thank you for your kindness you have shown to me (and all the others you have helped). When I recently found myself thinking of the experience of being part of this group, it seemed only fitting that i take a moment to say "thank you" to the people of this group who have, through there words, actions and way of being, shown me examples of the friendliness, kindness and sharing that is still a large part of the newcomers first impression of this group. So i have decided to declare a 'holiday of gratitude', during which I would try to contact each person who had touched my life in some kind or helpful way and say "thank you" in some small way of word and deed. (Sense that could take a few moments, I also decided this attention day' could last a week, or hew ever long it takes). This past late winter and early spring, I spent a great amount of time and effort to track and photograph Comet Hale-Bopp (from the dark skies of the Blue Ridge Parkway) as it slowly passed by our Earth. It was a beautiful, moving experience. now that I am beginning to print a few of the first images with others, in hopes it will remind them of all the natural beauty that this world hold dear for them, seen or unnoticed, every day we live. Then this was handwritten- I hope you enjoy this one just for your own, peace, Mykle. It's very obvious how kind and giving he was a person. If you don't see that or understand that, then take the time to read what he wrote again. Read it as many times as you need to, till it hits you how selfless and generous he was. I sent him several thank you emails and a letter. He never wanted to accept anything in return. I must sadly say i had little contact with him over the last two years. Yet, i am deeply sad to know that he is no longer shinning his kindness and light on the world. Please rest happily where ever you Mykle. As part of Allen B suggestion I am going to give some angelfood away to the first lets say five newbies that email me with the header...newbie/angelfood. It was just a year ago, I asked for the video of VH1-Storytellers on this list, and Mykle replied to my post. I sent him my list of angelfood and told him to pick what he wanted in return. But all he said was "I'm fine, I don't need anything, you have some great tapes yet but soon you'll have more". And so, one day, I received this huge package, and in there I found the video of Storytellers (plus some early Jewel TV appearances before the release of POY)AND 12 audio tapes !!! He knew I was a great fan of Steve Poltz and among thoses tapes he put a few Rugburns/Poltz, Rugburns/Jewel tapes. He still wanted nothing in return, just asked me to spread the joy and the kindness around. Since then, when I read posts from newbies looking for angelfood, I sometimes offer them one or two tapes of angelfood for free. I will do that more often now in Mykle's memory. Also, I remember Mykle was fond of astronomy and last summer occured the european total solar eclipse, and as I live in France, I had the chance to go to a place where the eclipse was total and I told Mykle how it was to be there at that time, and he was really happy I shared this experience with him :-) I'm sorry this was long, but it was Mykle who taught me what it was to be a true EDA, and I am really thankful for that gift. Rest in peace Mykle. The "It's a long road that stretched from Vegas to nowhere" part.. Maybe I'm wrong or maybe Jewel got mixed up.. I wouldn't be surprised, what with her always mixing up songs and lyrics.. Like using the Dylan story for "Sometimes It Be That Way," "Who Will Save Your Soul," and even "Chime Bells".. >> I'm not sure if anyone responded to this yet, but if they did Mike can always stop this from going through. =) Uh, that is correct, the line in "Calling You" (a song from Baghdad Cafe) is "There was a road from Vegas to nowhere..." WOW.. it hasnt been out of my stereo since ! i love it to say the least. i'm hooked !!! okay, down to business. i get my first piece of angelfood in the mail this week and i need some help. this is an excellent audience recording, Jewel @ Darien Lake, Buffalo NY, July 31, 1999. i got it from a not-very-big-jewel fan, he recorded it himself, so i dont think this show is in circulation- or at least this recording of it. but there are a few songs i need some help with. i know there's tons of non-cd songs out there (thanks for all your help stace), but if someone could tell me the titles or possibly even send me the lyrics to these i would be very grateful. the 7th song came between YWMFM and MorningSong. intro'ing the song she said "this is a brand new song, i've played it twice" the first few lines go something like this: take my hand dont fall behind the night is dangerous and i follow__?__ ??? so lay here with me darling please how does a heart know when to fall again the 15th song sounds like "i'll take you down" ? is that a title to one ?? the 16th, im clueless on, i cant really make out much of it at all and the 18th, 1st encore song, im totally lost on, the crowd was going wild and i can make out even less of this one. this is still a great recording, if you knew the songs you could understand it, but having never heard this one i'm really having trouble with it. then she recites a poem "you are not" and closes with some yodeling, awesome show. have a great rest of the weekend everyone, roger ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Sep 2000 23:34:44 GMT From: "Princess Jewel" Subject: * Help me please!! AND HOW DO I START A COLLECTION OF ANGELFOOD?? I DONT HAVE ANY AND I WANNA START ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Sep 2000 00:18:23 -0300 From: "R.D." Subject: * Mykle and photos Hi EDAs! Two things: First, reading all these messages about Mykle (what a wonderful human being he was) I became curious to see any photo of him. Are there sites with his pictures? Second, I like to save photos of Jewel with other famous personalities and I wonder where I can find it. It could be Jewel with musicians, actors, diretors, writers and others, but it has to be a well known person. I have a few like with Bono, the singer of Counting Crows, Sean Penn, Jakob Dylan... Please, give the URLs to find those kind of photos. I thank you the kindness. Now, bear in mind I am semi-new to the list, and I only have three Angelfood tapes that I just got in late July. But I am offering to make them for free to the first 3 emails I get from people who are 1, new to the list, and 2, will tell me why I am on the list. There are 3 tapes to choose from, and I'll let the people pick one, since I am a poor 18 year old saving money for school! LoL The tapes are: Tinker Street Cafe recording Innerchange Days 1 Innerchange Days 2 Hope I can help build someone's Angelfood collection, even if only by one tape!
